ELBE meets SEAWOLF (ex. CLYDE)

Finally, after more than 30 years, Seagoing Tug ELBE welcomes her former sister CLYDE in Maassluis, their original home-port, The Netherlands, August 2013.
ELBE, after more than 50 years, fully restored in her original livery, her sister CLYDE rebuilt as a luxury YACHT !!
The ELBE still is home-ported in Maassluis, together with several other restored tugboats like FURIE (steam-driven), HUDSON, MAASSLUISJE (harbor support tug) and (formerly Smit-Tak support vessel) BRUINVISCH.

Mooie film met mooie combinatie van schepen.Wat fijn dat er entousiaste mensen zijn die dit stuk vak manschap in stand willen houden.Vakmanschap uit Kinderdijk 1958. Groetjes uit Ridderkerk.

Mooi dat het schip bewaard is gebleven, ook al heeft het weinig meer met een sleepboot te maken.

As an ex United Towing tug man, it was good to watch this video. Thank you for this posting and I've sailed up and down here quite a few times in the sixties and seventies..

Der Anblick der "Seawolf" weckt in mir gemischte Gefühle. Aus einem Arbeitsschiff einen Salondampfer zu machen ist auch eine Möglichkeit, alte und damit meistens auch formschöne Schiffe zu erhalten. Wenn niemand Geld für`s alte Schiff übrig hat, wäre die Alternative mit "Drei mal wahnsinnige voll voraus" auf den Strand von Chittagong.... :-( Insgesamt gesehen ist es das Zweitbeste was einem alten Arbeitsschiff passieren kann. Das in meinen Augen beste Los haben Schiffe wie zum Beispiel die "ELBE" , "CAP SAN DIEGO" , oder die "STETTIN" als echte voll funktionstüchtige Museumschiffe gezogen.

ik den k aan de tijd dat er nog echt mooie sleepboten waren net zo als elbe .Clyde. en als top mooie sleepboot de zwarte zee 3 het is natuurlijk geweldig wat er gepresteerd is om deze boot weer zo te krijgen maar eigenlijk had voor mij toch de zwarte zee 3 er moeten zijn maar dat is persoonlijk nu de hudson nog een motor

I like the Seawolf: sturdy, go anywhere attitude, reliable. And you don't need to be afraid if weather turns bad. For pictures of the inside (and outside), google for it, there are pictures available as she is available for charter. Joop, nice film but would have preferred if you would have shown some more of Elbe to see how Seawolf was changed to become a superyacht.

On KZbin you can find a great number of my videoimpressions of the 11-years of restaurationproces of the ELBE (from a sunken wreckage /ex GREENPEACE up to the actual restored seagoing tug as a museum ship !! Het had zeker een hoop gemopper gescheeld als da aflossing een week te laat was.

Wat dacht je van 6 maanden ? Mijn vader moet mijn moeder met de handschoen trouwen omdat hij net voor het binnenlopen om moest keren om een sleep op te pakken. Moest rond de kaap , dat duurde maar even wat langer dan gedacht de kaap was niet te ronden en ze moesten met de sleep terug door de Middellandse zee naar bestemming . Als ik het goed heb moesten ze op die reis ook nog eens een hele motor overhalen. Mijn vader was machinist op o.a de Gele Zee , Witte Wee ,Zwarte Zee. Elbe, zover ik het mij kan herinneren Er hangt nog een tekening van hem op de Elbe , heb ik daar afgeleverd na zijn dood .

The owner is the person with the pink shorts walking on the starboard side. He returne home that day and the crew brought the yacht to her next destination a day later.

Flag of convenience. You would be surprised how many Pacific islands have huge ships registered to them. The ship will follow the country of registers pay rules, if gambling needs a license or not, minimum drinking age (big draw for 19 and 20 year old American cruise ship tourists). It also means they pay less or even 0 tax or fees when docking in the port of register. For example ships being registered in Panama have almost a 50% cut to taxes and fees for transiting the canal. Oh and ships registered in the Bahamas can legally have the captain of the vessel perform marriages.
