Elbow Bones and the Racketeers was an American big band-era styled male/female vocal group, created by August Darnell, and best known for their hit single "A Night in New York", written by Ron Rogers and Deborah Clarkin, and released on the EMI label. It was sung by Stephanie Fuller. It entered the UK Singles Chart on 14 January 1984. It remained in there for nine weeks, reaching #33. The single reached #15 in the Dutch Top 40 on 17 March 1984.
Elbow Bones was the alter ego of writer/photographer John Rynski, who had become friendly with Darnell after working as his stage and lighting man on the Kid Creole and the Coconuts tours. Rynski believed Darnell had given him his nickname as he had "elbowed" his way into Darnell's entourage: he said, "I did anything for them just to be there and hang out".

One of the best songs of the seventies. I saw it on a video show and I fell in love with it.And I went up to the record store and they ordered it for me. The single has long been lost. Thank god for the invention of the internet where I can find anything and enjoy it again. I know there's a lot of drawbacks in the internet. But it has preserved a lot of wonderful things.Wonderful movies, videos, videos, live performances.Good music good comedy you name it

One of my all time favorite songs. Elbow Bones and the Racketeers really had a great sound. Of course the group was created by August Darnell (Browder) who was also the nucleus of the bands Kid Creole and the Coconuts and Dr. Buzzard's Original Savannah Band (with his brother Stony Browder), each of which had this great big band sound. The mix of genres was such a cool break from the norm back then. Stephanie Fuller was perfect for the vocals.

I met Kid Creole after a show once, he was really nice, but I wish I'd suggested that his new Coconuts do a version of this song on his future tours, it would be perfect with the vibe!

I wouldn't say he was underrated. He caught the attention of Prince and Barry Manilow. But in my opinion he didn't have as much commercial success as he deserved.

Christophe

Absolute nostalgia! Brilliant big band sound with great vocals and great solos on sax and drums to name but a few. The video is also brilliant and atmospheric. Shame there are no credits for all the musicians. actors and production team. I have played this to my friend and colleagues, (mostly musicians) they all say this is so mind-blowing that it should be released again. My wife is adamant that the lead woman in the hat is Diana Rigg or her daughter. Thank heaven for KZbin.

The essence of life ... It is knowing how to accept and understand what life gives us ... Nothing happens by chance in this life, everything has a purpose and a why. Everything has its meaning, nothing happens, for it just happens ... The sun rises for everyone, but each one receives it in a different way. Every moment, however simple, they taught you something ... The best day of our life, it is always the one, that we are living. Because, only in the present we have the possibility, to fix past mistakes, and the opportunity to prepare a better future ... There is nothing better, than feeling fulfilled, and for that we must enjoy, of all moments of life ... Show! ... An Excellent Video, Beautiful Music. It rocked. Beautiful work. Great Post. Congratulations. Thanks! ... A great afternoon...
