This some makes me and my Dad cry every time, my mum passed when I was 2 weeks old and me and Dad are best friends and he adores Elbow. ‘Throw those curtains wide’ relates to so many people going through struggle, clear those cob webs out! ‘1 day a year’ if only we could spend that with her again… beautiful

Love the Holy Spirit. He knows 21st-century methods to spread the love and insight That is what throwing the curtains wide actually means.
@Cookies2132 Жыл бұрын
@@sidpheasant7585what’s the Holy Spirit got to do with this song? It’s music that’s of the world, this song does not represent god. The Holy Spirit has nothing to do with causing a crowd to participate.
@sidpheasant7585 Жыл бұрын
@@Cookies2132 It is obvious that, while the world is often linked together with the Flesh and the D*v*l, and while 1 John 5:19 says straight that the whole world lieth in wickedness, signs for people from God are throughout The Bible and quite clearly there is interaction between the eternal and the divine and what we have here on Earth. Quite clearly those signs can involve Scripture, but also nature (as St Bede for example recognised), and indeed culture and ... in the end ... rapture. We believe that both hymns and religious paintings can inspire (the word actually refers to the Spirit) a better seeing and understanding of God, thereby also suggesting a blurring of the life-art boundary that characterises the Holy Spirit. It would be odd and illogical and unlikely to suggest there is a pure and clear boundary between the intentionally-divine music associated with church and music in general. And indeed a Holy Spirit determined to spread understanding of God, through the words and actions of Jesus, would HAVE to seek ways of reaching "non-religious" people. Jesus says ther Spirit is like the wind, blowing where He will, and that enigmatic behaviour must also denote work in "popular" circumstances and with ordinary people, and indeed with atheists/agnostics (Vaughan Williams and his church music springs straight to mind). The song from Elbow has a clear spiritual aspect, people like it or love it and are not sure why, and participation CAN INDEED suggest the action of the Holy Spirit, as it also does in certain church services. God is represented wherever there is love and truth (these are the very nature of the Holy Spirit too), wherever there is a clearer separation of good from evil, wherever people reach for higher things, wherever the sacrifice and love of Jesus is understood. But in many the first inkling is many steps down the line from full faith, so people have to be helped to grasp what they experiencing. I try to do that.
@soyounoat28142 күн бұрын
@@sidpheasant7585 "Throw those curtains wide" means whatever it means to the listener. For you it's about the Holy Spirit. To others, it holds different meanings. To some it literally refers to window curtains.
@sidpheasant75852 күн бұрын
@@soyounoat2814 While I have strong faith in what I write, and indeed may even be empowered by the Holy Spirit as I write it, I resemble every other KZbin poster in expressing what I feel; and I resemble many (though not all) in not lying. My opinion cannot be less welcome just because it invokes God (and that gets up somebody's nose), while it can actually be more beautiful than some opinions since there is no anger, sourness, hate or mockery in it, only love and admiration. In truth you underinterpret me. As is typical with the Holy Spirit, He is not only (potentially) referenced in the song; being also its inspirer and co-author, but also with it at the time of delivery... What lyrics mean can be open to some interpretation (like the parables if Jesus), but it can ultimately be the case that some interpretations are more valid than others... We do NOT have 100% freedom to interpret however we wish on a whim.

He performed as "warm-up" to Coldplay in NC in 2005 and blew the audience away. I always arrive early. I had my video camera...A "guard" near me asked me about it. I told him I had to get this. I urged him to pay attention to Guy. He was blown away. He said, this coming from a Southron, that he had the charisma of Elvis. High praise. He let me film what I could. I just had to put the camera down and be present after a few minutes. Genius, intelligence and compassion married with rare talent.

I know this feeling, and it is magic. It is an amazing and wonderful thing. The words music and magic differ by only 2 letters: the 2nd of each is a vowel, and the 3rd a soft consonant. The people who coined them knew something that many now have forgotten. Music begins in someone's imagination. They learn to manipulate instrument and voice to make the music, but it's no more than vibrations of air molecules until it reaches another person's eardrums, and enters their imagination, and that's when the connection is complete, and MAGIC happens.
