There's also a cool gravity move found on the small beach from the first step fast travel point. It's dropped by a large undead type; the enemy is kind of impossible to miss(he's near the ruins on the beach)

They'll be an 8-foot tall guy with a sword who'll do gravity attacks defeat him and you'll get the move

My guys who keep asking "how do we use them", if you have something in your left hand, like a shield, it's going to try to use your shield's Ash first. This is usually stuff like parry, but some shields have No Skill (and you can get the Ash for it) so it just defaults to your right hand weapon's. Otherwise, you have to either put away your left hand weapon/shield, or Two Hand your right hand weapon.

My sasuke uchiha build is working out great do far. Start with a samurai, do the smithing stones run and the level up run, 14 faith 17 Dex and 19 vigor, Get the uchi to plus 4 then buy a catalyst and some incantations at the round table hold and watch how easy it is to destroy marget. I'm using Oh flame and flame sling and unsheathe. Can't wait to get the black flame and lightning blade incantations. This game is so damn fun.

@@Voitan You need to level up a weapon and pick good scaling for it before you start seeing a return on certain ashes. This skill actually does good poise damage, but you need to detect a good opening to take advantage. Getting a combo into a knockdown or close to a knock down guarantees a fully charged heavy + a critical if your timing is good. Devastating combo, but not nearly as easy to use as other ashes.

Most of these are available just from...regular arms. Though Sacred Blade is a standout. It allows a weapon that does Holy damage, and will then scale with Faith. Also, the beam that erupts, and while the weapon is sheathed in gold, is the only way to permanently kill Undead types.

Nah, you can just slap them once while they're glowing and trying to get up and they just give up and no longer revive. Literally any damage will do, granted the weapon needs to hit low enough to reach the floor skeleton

I got teleported to Caelid by accident and found Meteoric ore blade a katana with int scaling. It's at caelid waypoint ruins or caelum ruins in a chest. Edit: teleport is under the burnt dragon ruins a bit away from the first step

A easily overpowered Frost type Ashes of War, you need to reach the Right side of the Manor to look it from the invisible scarab that rolls in a pattern. There is a warp from the North of the Lost Grace in the lake itself, on the path of the broken bridge to the city in the middle of the lake. You see a small 'circle' island in the waters, which has a warp portal. It sends you all the way north west of the map near a ruins to the north of which you can go up there, attack the center of this massive wall blocking further passage northward, and you will find a Giant blacksmith and a Lost Grace, and the Manor to the north east of that location being protected by a system. To the far east of that manor is a clearing which a scarab, and you get the stomping skill frost ashes of war which is so damn overpowered against most trash enemies since it can one shot them if you are a mage. Against tougher mobs, they have no choice but to get frostbite if you spam the stomp attack over and over again... Frostbite basically causes increased damage taken from other sources, in addition to stamina reduction and slowing the target down a bit. And it's only 10 FP to use it one time.

@@EEEEBE Id you know where the Blacksmith Iji is, follow the path to the manor north east but keep going past the manor to the east side of it. Invisible Scarab rolling around. The Manor itself has the grace for warping.

Not sure if unique weapons can but normal weapons with weapon arts can have them overrided. Like i have been using a dismounter + wild slashes for the whole beginning part of the game, even though it has the default weapon art of spin slash.

Bloody Slash has a broken damage modifier that will probably get nerfed in the first balance patch. Unsheathe does very good poise damage and acceptable damage on top of it. Whichever you need for those purposes.

it loses when you change it's affinity, you can choose if you want to or not when selecting the ash

When you equip an Ash, it gives you a list starting with Standard. Leaving it as Standard just leaves the stats alone and you can use the ability, but you can choose any of the other Affinities to change how your stat scaling works with that weapon. For example, if you use the Heavy affinity, it'll make it scale more off of Strength and nothing else. This DOES make the base damage of the weapon weaker, but could mean that with the better scaling from your stats, it does more damage. Be sure to do the math to find out.

Later on, you will obtain an item that allows you to modify the basic physical scaling an ash of war gives you. Right now you have to take what it says it gives - quality scaling for instance makes a weapon much weaker until lategame, you'll need like 40 and 40 in strength AND dex to start feeling a return, but the base damage goes down a ton. My advice would be to save your sword keys, because even legacy dungeons have locked areas.

One thing to note is sacred blades holy damage only seems to have any effect during the Ash of War buff 😭, imo I much pref the perm damage buff like in souls, rip holy paladin plan

You need to find a special item that lets you put ashes of war on weapons, it's in a ruin near the start, around where you should have first gotten your horse. There will be some stairs to go underground, it's in a chest there.

In storm veil castle in the church when you talk to the sorcerer he will eventually show up in the hold. If you talk to him he will give you his weapon and you can take the ash off of it. If I’m remembering correctly lol

@@w4ywardlucky There's also the Ash of War (which he really should have mentioned) called "No Skill". You put it on shields, and it makes the shield no longer have a parry or w/e else, this makes the game default to using your main hand's Ash instead without having to two hand.

There are ashes that give Int scaling and innate magic damage to the weapon. Gravitas is obtainable in Limgrave immediately. You'll meet magical teachers that offer magical style weapon arts that do the same.

Stat scaling. I believe Quality makes something scale off of both Strength and Dexterity. You'll later find others, like Heavy which scales on Strength alone but more than Quality does. You use these to make your weapon better for the stats you're building. Standard puts it to the weapon's default.

Quality severely weakens base damage but attempts to improve both dex and strength. Weapons have their own innate scaling, so this influence varies. Caestus have favorable scaling for dex and str naturally, while something like a Katana will lean more towards dex even with quality. Quality also suffers from you needing like 35+ in both stats to start really seeing a return outscaling the base damage nerf. Unless you are a super dedicated quality build, standard and basic enhancement with smithing stones does more for you early/mid game.

@@UnsettlingDwarf I was wrong about the Katana in my example, it seems to have become a natural quality weapon - equal scaling to both. Everything else was accurate though. A better example would be daggers > keen, and hammers > heavy will still usually scale better than quality even with a quality build until lategame, with 45+ in both stats, etc.
