Man, about the bats for me is very clear that they have a connection with the flame, the normal ones resemblance the Giant flame but the other threes are for me connected with the frenezy flame, with patterns that looks like eyes, and curious that they are 3 the bomber of the fingers that create this chaotic flame.

My theory, relates to the appearance of Miquella's desiccated arm and how Mohg emerges. That while Miquella was in his cocoon, Mohg basically exsanguinated him. Turning his corpse into the "perfect" avatar for the Formless Mother to inhabit. One unalloyed to all other Outer God influence. This being, would be who Mohg wanted to become consort to.

Um, I'm sorry didn't Mohg literally placed himself INSIDE the Cacoon being INSIDE Miquella (the thing that being referred by some as "impregnation")? So obviuosly when Miquella will be reborn - there should be (at least according to Mohg's plan) the same situation with Mohg and Miquella as with Marika and Radagon. I don't know where is the Formless Mother in this scheme but I think lorehunting-wise we can't just ignore the fact that Mohg is depicted being inside Miquella.

The patterns on the bats whings are eyespots which exist most in butterflys and moths mainly brush foots(vestigial pare of legs) and satuniid(big moths) respectively although they can also be seen on some mantids and lanternflys and probably other things I know less about. On the outside of the wing they are typically small and destract from the important parts of the body, they are typically much larger on the inside they can be flushed to look like a small part of a much larger animal as to frighten or suprised predators long enough to escape. I don't know the folk lore associated with them and in the real world they typically round and not clustered together like that, honestly it most reminds me of a spice bush swallowtail caterpillar not even that really, although they do as whole feel a bit more mothy, perhaps there is a species with those exact spots or perhaps it's just something they made up as they whent along untill I know more it's hard to say though i lean towards the latter. I hope this was of use though I feel like it just raises more questions.

I like the interpretation in this video of Mohg. The way I see him, he's delusional. He's strong enough to think he actually has a shot, but not strong enough to face someone like Radahn or Godfrey or Malenia. He stole Miquella, while Malenia was away, didn't have the balls to face her and her knights. He lives underground, in hiding and has few and weak followers. He hands out fictional titles to his followers, like when Varre makes you a knight... a knight of a dynasty that doesn't exist and with no chance to do so. Even when you kill him and you show him he's not strong enough he still pathetically hangs on to his obsession of a dynasty that never was and never will be, just like Varre's dying words are a desperate, hollow prayer to him that goes unanswered. As for the Formless Mother she either used him for her own aims OR and I like this possibility: she doesn't even exist. It's all in his delusional mind, trying to make himself the good guy in his own self-aggrandizing narrative to get over the fact that he's an omen. Ask this question: is there other evidence of the Formless Mother's existence beyond what's related to Mohg? You see Greater Will's presence, you see the Three Fingers... where is this Formless Mother?

I think that fire play a bigger part in Elden Ring than we give credit for. The Frenzied Flame manifests itself as a yellow blaze in the eyes of its hosts/those overcome with madness, dragons are famously known for breathing fire, and from the way Mohg’s blood “burns” I think the Formless Mother is a type of fire itself. So many of the Outer Gods manifest as a kind of fire, the best weapon against the Erdtree. The Formless Mother probably lives in the blood of its hosts. Most Outer Gods are basically rivaling landscaping companies to tear down the Erdtree with, lol

Look up the descriptions on mohgwyn's sacred spear and bloodflame incantation, they both reference reaching into/piercing the formless mother to achieve their effects. It's some kind of extra dimensional/distant/otherwise intangible being but it definitely seems to exist or mohgs blood magic and the unique corruption of the surrounding area wouldn't. If the rot god that was sealed under the lake of rot is an outer god (lake of rot map description) then i think the formless mother probably is one too.

Interesting, the 3 bats with a different wing designs look very similar to eye patterns that appear on some butterflies and moths in the real world. Solidifies the comparison in my opinion.

I kind of like the idea that the patterns on the wings of the bats are supposed to symbolize The burning of the erdtree. While the yellow patterns on the bats are supposed to symbolize the path of madness the player could take but that’s just my theory.🤔🐱

the color on the bat wings almost makes me think of the flames of frenzy, especially considering it looks to me like the patterns of many insect wings, meant to look like eyes to deter predators. not sure if a connection would exist, but there are certainly other signs of its influence in the area.

If they had glowing yellow eyes like frenzied enemies I'd lean more towards your theory, but the moth wing designs are so randomly placed my guess is they're placeholder textures that weren't updated for the final version like the rest of the bats due to their identification code being unique as they have different stats than regular bats. The finalized textures updating all the other bats, but missing these without the devs or QA team noticing.

I feel like no one has noticed that the "top farming spot" has a much more lucrative point, there are 3 spots you can use Radagons Ring of Light to kill groups of them, and I've noticed that the albinaurics (which give 2k each there in NG) seem to have a much higher chance of having the golden eye effect, often I get over 100k in 2 runs just killing the grey ones and the 3-5 red guards, since eqch gold eye gives 10k (and there may be a bug that makes it so killing a gold eye in a group of non-gold eyes increases the overall gain but I haven't confirmed it, I just know that often 1 cast killing 5 nets me like 26-34k runes), and I started doing it at around 35 faith so you don't even need to go full faith for it. I didn't even know the bird was why people went there for the longest time, but it really only added another 10k per rest so it wasn't even that much compared lol

Rykard most importantly has many interactions with fingers, even the hands that creeps in various places in the lands between are related to him. The item description of the finger weapon that comes from such hands tells us that Rykard is mimicking things which are holy in nature, and that seems to be his whole appeal to get new tarnished to go against the golden order. This is also how he got his champion Bernahl, who lost faith in the greater will after losing his maiden. It gives a sense of greater cause, even the manor kinda acts as a roundtable hold.

I think the reason you can find the Oracle Envoy at The Haligtree is to hint at Malenia becoming a God and not Miquella. My reason is because Mogh kidnapped Miq while Malenia and Radagon fought in Caelid. So it wouldn't make since if they stayed at the Haligtree and not moved to Mogh's palace. Also, Malenia quite literally becomes a God in her second phase to boot, so the Oracles existence in that area is valid.

For the spinning slash deflection, it’s likely an artifact of ds3. In ds3 the split leaf greatsword shares the same weapon art and it also deflected arrows and they may have forgotten to remove this feature when they ported over the animations and hitboxes to elden ring

Those bats with the unique spots are very similar to Giant Silk Moths (Saturniids). I’d suggest looking into Giant Moths and you’ll see what I mean. It’s also interesting to note that Moths and Butterflies are of the same order (Lepidoptera). With butterflies being so prevalent in the game it makes sense to also have Moth imagery and symbolism. Might be worth digging deeper into.

Everyone points out the references from the manga Berserk but I believe a second manga that is an source of inspiration is being overlooked. And may also reveal more inside to the Erdtree-parasite theory of the previous video. It is about the similarities of character Ymir from Attack on Titan and that of Qween Marika. Both their powers came from a paradise in a giant tree, and both became prisoners by their same power. In the astral like realm that Ymir is imprisoned in their is a tree that resembles the Erdtree even more than that of Ganishka's tree from from Berserk. The from of their powers when released from their host takes similar slug like forms with a nerve system motif, this is the “Elden beast” and the “Source of all living matter” as it is named in Attack on Titan.

9:00 hmm those textures look placeholdery to me, since the three bats are tougher than the others it would mean they have a different model ID or at least some sort of different identification than the other bats and the different texture may have been a simple mistake. My guess would be when they finalized the texture for bats and updated the bat properties for the whole game these three bats were accidentally not included in the change due to their unique model ID or identification code. Not usually a mistake From would make, but considering the scale of this game and how prevalent bats are it's reasonable to assume it slipped through QA testing. I'm sure if someone notifies From directly about it they'll fix it in an upcoming patch, it'd take like 30 seconds to fix.

We have Aeonian, Nascent, and Smoldering butterflies but no golden ones. Maybe there was a golden butterfly at one time but it became corrupted into bats over time, with the last of the lesser corrupted ones (and subsequently more powerful) having brighter markings, a higher health pool, and a higher rune drop. Maybe a corrupting force of the Formless Mother that was not as strong in the Mountaintops of the Giants?

I think you are wrong about the sealed doors, I do believe the doors have been waxed shut making the houses/rooms tombs for the dead. Gargoyle imps roam the rooftops, possibly as guards but more likely they might be trying to get in to retrieve the dead. There is even a distinct house with a knight kneeling in front of it which seems as someone paying their respects at a grave. The seals would suggest that the corpses inside are prevented from returning to the Erdtree.

For those 3 unique bats, i think it could have something to do with the frenzied flame. We know that the madness effect comes from frenzied flame attacks and once the buildup is full then you take damage and the character covers his eyes in pain, not only that but the symbol of the madness effect is an eye. On the bats wings, the images on the wings really do look like eyes and the colours are very similar.

About Rennalas Great Rune. I think the true reason for Radagon to gift Rennala a great rune wasn't to show his gratitude to her. It was a great rune born from Radagon and Marika, that greater will wanted to use for Ranni ressurection as empyrian of Golden Order. Considering Radagons loyalty to golden order, Ranni's body being destined death and Rennala ressurecting and recreating juveniles over and over again it makes sence for me.

The sealant itself looks like wax, is the same color as the corpse wax of the gargoyle weapons, and the gargoyles themselves are present in Leyndell. The kintsugi theory you also put forward really feels like a stretch, the doors themselves aren't cracked, and the sealant itself is very sloppy. Both of those things point to it NOT being kintsugi. 3:40 The description of the Spinning Strikes ash of war itself explicitly says that the spin deflects arrows. "Nullifies projectiles such as arrows while spinning." Is the exact quote.

I’m pretty sure the little white guys outside the haligtree are not there for miquella because he is with mohg. instead I think they are there for his sister malenia and this can be backed up by looking at her rune once you defeat her it clearly states that if she blooms three times she will become a goddess of rot and we see one time in the fight with radahn another in the room next to her boss room and the last time is in the fight with us I’m pretty sure this is why the little white guys are outside the haligtree. if I’m wrong I apologize🤷‍♂️

What makes me think that the gold substance sealing the doors isn't meant to be related to kintsugi is that for one, it would be extremely sloppy artwork, and for two, calling a seal around a door a "repair" seems like a massive stretch - they don't appear damaged at all, and even if they were broken off their hinges, gluing them shut removes all functionality.

I also disagree about the seal on the doors being golden. Its more likely to have sealed out perfumers doing business against rivals in the dark night, either to keep out their poison, or keep it in. With everything from rot, to blight, poison etc being tossed round. Not just dragons were involved in fighting within leyndell. friendly fire with the poison would be just as likely regardless of the foe, they would just be tossing out ALOT more of it on the large dragons. Most of the doors that are open, have perfumer items inside. Likely that all of Leyndell was trapped in the event it was overrun.

Oracle envoys are not heralding Miquella´s coming Godhood, because Miquella is not even at the Haligtree but in Mohgwyn Mausoleum. They are heralding Malenia´s apotheosis, which eventually does happen when we fight her.

Zio, I found interesting the weapons Morgott creates with his magic in boss fight. He creates: - Giant Crusher - Carian Knight's Sword. - Erdsteel Dagger - Treespear. EDIT: It was Carian Knight's sword, not Lordsworn's Greatsword.

I think he actually creates the carian knight's sword, not the lordsworn's. You can see a bit of a blue tint on the golden weapon

I don't think the sealed door thing lines up that well actually. The doors were never shattered or broken so how could you see this as "fixing them with gold"?. They were never broken and we know from cut content that at least one leyndell citizen was meant to be an NPC we could talk to so that to me would indicate that people still use those buildings for housing. If you look at the gargoyle weapons it does look very similar to the corpse wax, although personally I think sap from the Erdtree is probably the most likely explanation. Most people forget or don’t understand that corpse wax does require decomposing adipose tissue of a body to occur. It would require people desecrating bodies, it also would melt easily when exposed to heat or rain since people in France did once upon a time make candles and soap from unburied cemeteries. I do think Ziostorms idea does really make more sense then Adipocere.

In addition to the headshot while jumping, I'd like to point out that there's special animations for killing mounted enemies with headshots. The Night's Cavalry, for instance, will slump over in their saddles and tumble out sideways instead of falling off the back as they normally do.

9:07 This is pure speculation but those colours in that specific pattern look awfully similar to the flame of frenzy, especially in the ending when the player's head is consumed by it. It could be completely unrelated or it could be alluding to someone unknown connection between those bats and frenzy.

So I could be too high... But on my first and third run, as I was heading to Juno Hoslow's location, I passed across the turf war between demihumans and some yellow-patterned bats...then something used the frenzy flame, only I didn't see what it was... Could be a bat because of the patterns, hardly a demihuman (definitely not a player, I only play solo).

I feel like the envoys being at the haligtree point more towards Malenia, rather than Miquella. Miquella is no longer at the haligtree at the time we see the envoys there, however Malenia is. It just so happens that Malenia becomes an actual goddess at the end of her fight. On top of that the only other place we see envoys, in leyndell, you can fight another god, that being elden beast. I feel like if Miquella was being considered by the envoys, we'd see some sign of them at mohgwyn palace. The only holes to this theory I can think of is that the envoys stay after you kill Malenia, we can't see if the envoys leave after killing elden beast to determine if that is even a consistent thing they do after a god dies, and generally I think Miquella is way more important than Malenia in the overall god plot.

Malenia refers to herself as the Blade of Miquella. She is one of few Demigods that doesn't desire power for herself. But, through item descriptions and other lore, is completely enamoured with her brother. Noting his potential greatness several times.

But Malenia does not die when we kill her. Her flower-bud stays in the arena and we can even interact with her if we have Miquella´s needle in our inventory. From Millicent we know that emergence of flowerbud marks the place of death and eventual rebirth. Malenia is goddess of death and rebirth afterall. Furthermore, many demigods remain somewhat alive after we defeat them. It would make sense that a being that ascends to true God status, like Marika or Malenia, would be even harder to truly kill and would remain even after defeat. Especially Malenia, because rebirth is part of her divine portfolio. Gideon might be right that man cannot lorewise kill a god. Canonically, only "God" we truly might kill (and even this is not 100% sure) is the Elden Beast, because of the unbound Rune of Death. Furthermore, the flavortext does support the idea that she will eventually become permanently a true God in the future. Also, all things considered, I don´t think Miquella is way more important than Malenia in the terms of godhood, considering how important Goddess of Rot is and how widespread the influence of Scarlet Rot is in the world. Malenia certainly is central figure in entirety of the God narrative which also warranted Fromsoft to make her face of the game, which would not happen if Miquella was more important character in the base game. Miquella right now is just background character, tidbit of interesting lore and DLC/Sequel hook. It seems Miquella failed his attempt of ascension when Mohg kidnapped him and oracle envoys recognize that without Miquella cooperation or revival from his comatose state, Mohgwyn Dynasty is doomed to fail. It would be even more ironic, if Mohg, in his lust for power and lust for his half-brother actually killed his sibling-consort in blood-drunk state, and now just lives in absolute denial.

Miquella reminds me of Griffith from Berserk. Some similarities are as follows, their childlike/youthful appearance with long white hair, their near supernatural charisma ("The Empyrean Miquella is loved by many people. Indeed, he has learned very well how to compel such affection" - Bewitching Branch), their desire to have their own kingdom, the way they both are reformed in an egg to become a god. Somewhat more of a stretch is that in cut content Miquella's great rune is said to be the rune of abundance, and if i'm not mistaken Griffith's kingdom of Falconia is said to be a place of abundance. I say this is a stretch because it's cut content and the time before the shattering is also described as a time of abundance. The main difference is Mohg interrupts Miquella's incubation whereas Griffith's incubation is successful. The way I understand this is that its 2 different versions of the same character that diverge during their incubation. I haven't seen this "theory" posted anywhere so I figured I'd share it here. Spinning Strikes deflecting projectiles is either an accidental carryover, or an intentional reference. The Splitleaf Greatsword, a halberd in Dark Souls 3, had the same exact animation and one of the perks was that it could deflect light projectiles.

7:10 I think a detail your missing is that the Envoys don’t know Miquella has been kidnapped and the ones in Leyndel of course would be there because of blind faith in Marika. So in my opinion it’s the opposite, the envoys are fooled into believing they’re welcoming a God but they have no idea Mohg is right under their noses (literally) closer then anyone else.

It is very important to mention that the Oracles do not show up where Ranni is either, despite her being a clear candidate for godhood by default of being an Empyrean. Furthermore, Ranni can in fact succeed in bringing forth a new age depending on what the Tarnished decide to do once they become Elden Lord. To get straight to the point, Mogh is not the only one whom the Oracles do not believe in. In fact, what the oracles believe in does not really matter since they do not take into account Ranni's potential success. Mogh is still valid in his belief that his dynasty will still rise, the Oracles can only predict but their predictions are far from mandatory to take place.

Few things. Ranni cast away her Emphyrean right, so she cannot become a vessel for a god as far as we know. And she doesn't want to do that anyway, she want pretty much the opposite; to leave the Land in between without a god.

@My Name for Now There's this theory in which Miquella and Ranni were working together (since Miquella wanted an Eclipse to occur, which requires a Moon). Ranni would go to space with her Dark Moon to keep the Golden Order and the Greater Will away from the Lands Between, and Miquella would become the God of a new age, keeping the other Outer Gods at bay with Unalloyed Gold. Perhaps that's why there no envoys near Ranni.

On your Oracle Envoy section, good thoughts, but if Miquella was truly chosen they'd be at Mohg's palace for him as well. The Oracle Envoys are in two places, both of which signify their two purposes. They are in Leyndell, where they await a new age (fracture, perfect order, death, curse etc) and they are in the Haligtree, where they await a new god. This god is not Miquella - it's Malenia, destined to become goddess of the scarlet rot.
