Once you get Swift Glintstone Shard, you'll never use Pebble again. Also, once you got your horse, go get the Meteorite staff, and while you're there also grab the Rock Sling spell in the same zone. Rock Sling absolutely destroys bosses. In addition to making the most damage of all spells (if all 3 rocks hit), it breaks their guard and stuns them. Also, you can get a +2 INT head by farming the imps you run into in the early catacombs. It's a rare drop from them, but I got it in like an hour of farming them, so not too bad. For an armor set, the best I have found is the Cleanrot set, that you get by killing a Cleanrot Knight in Aeonia, maybe 10-20 hours in.

@@chrisabaya3030 I'm doing a mage build as well, I played all the fromsoftware games with other kinds of builds, so this is my first mage build, and I can answer for you decide if it's worth for you: Some bosses and mobs became extremely easy compared to other builds, you just have to keep the distance and you can first try almost anything, basically some of the fights become easier, but for me that's about it. Your mana often runs out in bigger areas, and then you have to go meele, with very low hp, usually you die pretty fast, the horseback fights are incredibly terrible, the spells only hit if you face the enemy, which is pretty hard while you're trying to flee, slow bosses are a peace of cake, but fast engager bosses and mobs are a nightmare. I played about 13 hours and my most reliable spell is still the starting one, I thought there was a lot of cool, strong and useful spells but in reality there is only a handful worth using. So it's pretty hard to "manage" you have to be careful with you potions, how you position, you will get oneshot by almost anything really, and probably its not really worth it.

Just started as mage and here is what I found. With base level staff you add +2 to attack per intelligence level up. As for scaling first attack gets +2 second attack gets +1 per level up. First upgrade to staff bumps it +3 to attack but afterwards goes back to +2 and +1 per level up. Example (base no upgrade level 25 intelligence 159 first hit, 124 second hit. First upgraded staff level 25 intelligence 162 first hit, 127 second hit.) Level 26 intelligence 167 first hit, 132 second hit with upgraded staff.

I've been doing heavy farming of souls and got my intelligence to 30. Raised my stamina a bit and then put some points in strength and dexterity to use a cool sword. I noticed once I got to 30 intelligence I didn't get as many overall benefits. I'm totally new to souls game but I freaking love this game.
@gaelofariandel67472 жыл бұрын
Damage scaling from stats isn't all THAT high & there are "soft caps" Just balance out vigor & Intelligence while making dexterity & endurance your secondaries. Upgrading weapons tend to do more for spell damage IMO.

I really wonder how the scaling with the ashes of war will work in the end. If you can achieve weapon damage scaling based on int or faith on the same level as classic str or dex scaling, I don't see the point of having str/dex based melee characters if int/faith also do the trick AND give you sorceries on top. Maybe the scaling won't be as strong?
@redmdlee2 жыл бұрын
yeah thats what I've been wondering, would be interesting to do once more info comes out
@khaido93942 жыл бұрын
depends, Int and faith scaling have split damage, so if you're fighting against enemies with int or faith resistance your weapon damage will do jack shit, so there's a trade-off there
@WillowGreenheart2 жыл бұрын
Not only like Khai said split damage but dex/str boost defense too. And you don't need FP for like str/dex/quality build mostly. it will be the same as DS buuuut magic and bows are more viable. Which is good and fun!
@MasterLoki19912 жыл бұрын
as others have said the scaling is split and against magic/faith resistant stuff ur in a bigger pinch also, weapons that have split types can not have coatings applied to the weapon so those useful ones for adding fire or lightning damage to ur wep don't work here, you can also set those weapons to scale off normal stuff still and deal magic damage as far as I can tell. the magic ash of war lets u choose normal scaling still without adding magic damage to the weapon.

I wanna do a spellblade type build, but I definitely want a focus on magic because the spells in this game look amazing and deal considerable damage. Don't sleep on the Magic Glintblade spell that the Prisoner starts with. It's not as fp efficient as glintstone pebble, but it's extremely versatile. It can hit enemies from behind, it confuses the AI of enemies that would normally block or dodge, and you can queue up several attacks on an unsuspecting enemy.
@derekbrown34472 жыл бұрын

Well, honestly Dex is gonna be super useful for any casting class as it increases casting speed. Heck, weapon damage for Dez kinda soft caps at 40 while casting speed's bonus doesn't soft cap until 60, so your pure caster may actually end up with more dex than your agile fighter types.

Then prisoner will give you wasted points in Strength, but play what you want of course.
@sarahtaylor14992 жыл бұрын
Just a few important things if you want to play as a mage. In a blind playthrough magic does jack. Being the recommended level in the early game means you lack the dmg to kill any storyboss without going melee. For reference the first area boss would need around 50 pebble to die, all the while you need to dodge his super wide AoE attacks. So to have a decent chance you would need to travel around 30ish% of the map to get some stuff. Secondly, since the game doesnt have the option to create a crude weapon (lower scaling but higher base dmg) getting a working melee weapon is a giant pain. You basically need double the upgrade materials Lastly, enemy spellcaster will always outclass you in terms of damage. So without armor or hp, both need extra runes to level the stats, you will die a lot

Use the teleporter to get to the Meteorite Staff area. It's in the starting area, at the south end of the lake and in the ruins just offshore. Stay mounted and if you're lucky you can ride all the way down the stairs, where the rats are MUCH easier to kill while mounted. I ended up having to first kill the wolves outside, using the spirit wolves, before riding down. After you teleport, "Crouch" works amazingly well to get past the mobs in the cave. Just keep moving down the ramps while crouched to get to the Resting fire waypoint. Mount up and ride toward the lake and to the right to get to the ruin with the Meteorite Staff, ride up the steps and if you get close enough you can loot it before dying. Then back at the Resting waypoint, mount up and ride again to the same area, as close by find the down staircase, to get the "Rock Sling" spell.
