Came for the Elden Ring content. Stayed for the lecture on quantum mechanics and ethico-onto-epistemology. Please never change.

Every time you bring something from your life and/or work into the playthroughs, I'm even more astounded by how insightful and hard-working you are. The world really needs more Aegons-- you inspire me to continue my education so I have the knowledge impact people the way you do

Fully agreed! Aegon's a gift to youtube and everyone who loves his playthroughs. That insightful take on the world of STEM would have been so cool to see implemented! I hope that we get there eventually!

I know the feeling of putting yourself out there to push for more inclusive workplaces and being frustrated at the lack of any meaningful change. I see this way too often as a teacher. Admin and Board of Ed are happy to make small changes and try to get credit for it, but unfortunately stop at any real change. It can be so demoralizing, but it's encouraging to know that others keep striving for change, and helps me to keep trying, too. Thanks for sharing your experiences!

You have come a long way Aegon. I remember you used to get frustrated when folks commented about how you are not playing the game the way they want to see it. Now you seem to have relaxed and convinced yourself in a healthy manner that it’s not worth it. This is your blind play through and play it as you see fit. I am enjoying this game play a lot. Sure I wished you had suffered the way I did against Iron Maiden’s, the bosses like Radahn 😂 but hey good for you. Hope you keep it up!!

Gurranq definitely glitched out he was supposed to say stuff to you. it was something like he was overcome with his hunger and thats why he attacked you its just a normal part of his quest. Also! you did miss a boss fight in sellia that had a magic wall up that is closer to the mineshaft.

He's says something like "put it away (your weapon), I won't forget again... my appetite, my sin." He'll continue to tell you he won't forget as you continue to interact with him in the future. I have had this bug too where the talk option is lost after he loses it on you.
@joshk494 Жыл бұрын
Gurranq is scripted to go nuts on you after, I believe, the 4th deathroot you give him. He was supposed to have a talk option after you knock some sense into him where he begs you to put your weapon away, but sometimes it bugs out and you can't talk to him until you reload. Edit: also thanks Aegon for recalling my comment from a while ago about the octopus beaks, now I feel special 😊

O’Neil must have reported to Melania, though I don’t think either she nor radahn technically “flees the battle”. she’s taken away which is probably the closest to the description. Also, your STEM work reminded me of a conversation I had with a younger female cousin around 2012. We are from a working class rural background, with me being the first family member to attend university. I encouraged her to attend a university and apprenticeships fair; upon her return she reported downheartedly that - as she wasn’t looking to attend university - all the apprenticeship stalls were “for boy’s subjects” looking predominantly at engineering and sciences. It was quite a sad thing to hear.

hey aegon FYI in case you havent figured it out yet but the double jump does not stop you from taking lethal or damaging fall damage Also you used to be able to jump down into radahns arena but its since been patched

I don't know what you've done in the game so far so I don't know how relevant this advice is going to be, but the incantation flame cleanse me will alleviate scarlet rot and poison and only requires 12 faith. Also, the incantation blood flame blade is very good and also only requires 12 faith.

It's Ironic-funny you mention the doc, "What the Bleep Do We Know?" Because that director, because of that film, got sucked into the NXVIM cult and groomed to be its documentarian. He's one of the people who, eventually, blew the whistle on the cult. If he hadn't fallen down that rabbit hole, he might have had a longer career.

Fall damage is calculated by time in air so double jumping is making you take more damage!

That makes sense! I was assuming it was based on momentum
@trance1215 Жыл бұрын
@@Aegon_of_AstoraThat isn't actually true, it's just your y-pos from the apex of your jump or from the start of the fall to the y-pos of the landing spot. Time spent falling has nothing to do with it. There's an Illusory Wall video on it.

I'm interested in that research of yours. I think it could also have potential, at least with its theoretical premises, on cultural resource management. Did you pull all the stuff about intra-acting from just the Barad paper? It echoes some Heidegger and Viveiros de Castro, and trendy ideas like object agency and flat ontology

Huzzah for Millicent! Hers is certainly one of my favorite quest lines in the game. I'm sure you didn't intend it, but placing the segment about scientists intra-acting with(in the environment of) what they study made me look at Gowry through a different lens than what he proposes-- that he's just Millicent's adoptive father who found her as a baby in the swamp and pities her condition. Is he trying to study something and is simply using the player as an apparatus to affect results? Is he simply a kind father figure helping to alleviate his daughter's pain? Or is it something else entirely from either of those? Zullie the Witch has a really interesting video about Gowry that i recommend watching after your playthrough. Also, just to clarify something, i believe that Commander O'Neil is a member of the Redmane Army, rather than a soldier fighting on the side of Malenia. Radahn is the General of the Redmanes, whereas the cleanrot knights do not have any sort of military rankings. I think you hit the nail on the head with your assessment of the War Dead Catacombs-- those two opposing factions are doomed to continue to fight one another well into the afterlife, without any sort of rest or respite. A truly grim fate that suits Caelid as a land permanently scarred by war.

Being over leveled will become very difficult mid-late game. As much as you step it up, From steps it up as well and soon. You are leveled up just fine.

I wanted to offer some context for why someone might be frustrated with your choice to farm levels and why they might continue to watch these videos. I offer this as some perspective and not as an attack. After all, I have continued to watch this series. I guess the first thing to consider is why do people watch any Let’s Play? I can’t speak for everyone, but those who might share my frustration watch to feel some catharsis through the struggles you encounter in the game. As an example, Radahn was a boss that was famously difficult for many people and they hit a wall with him on their first playthough. In those moments, being over-leveled robs those viewers of that connection with you when you’re able to tank hits and poise break a boss with a few heavy blows. There’s significantly less “drama” in your game because you chose the easiest way out. So why keep watching? If the people leaving comments about ruined playthrough's are like me, we’ve invested a lot of time in your channel and we watch for your unique approach to these games. It’s just alienating to have valid criticism and feel like you dismiss it as unreasonable. To be fair, “You’ve ruined your playthrough” is pretty par for the course with KZbin Comments and if it is the bulk of what you’ve seen, then I get it. I’d probably shove those people away and tell them to watch other videos too. My aim here is to offer a more measured critique than what you may usually hear. Hopefully it helps you acknowledge and validate those who might share my frustration and we can move past it. There is still a lot of game and challenge ahead. Best wishes

as far as i am aware (i like to think i am very aware of this) every bloodborne ost that has lyrics, has it in some form of latin, on the other hand, non of the other games (including elden ring except the song of lament) use latin, but rather things that sound like ancient/unknown languages

In regards to STEM careers, (i hope i get the gist of it right), I think perhaps there are less opportunities for marginalised groups to be aware of how to access those places so to speak. Would careers fair, speaking to representatives or talking about specific issues they have and how to tackle these issues help? for example someone who is trans and person of colour might be concerned about harassment they could face in the industry and also travel if the workplace is very far from where they live. (Apologies if i misunderstood the topic, also the example is from barriers that i faced)
@Aegon_of_Astora Жыл бұрын
I think career fairs and related initiatives can be helpful for marginalized students, but it’s more important to address the root causes of the marginalization. Transphobia and racism are rampant in STEM fields, as in society more generally, but there are specific aspects of how we teach STEM subjects which perpetuate these problems. For example, we teach students in STEM fields that truly objective knowledge is possible even though it isn’t. This can lead to mistaken beliefs regarding the relationship between sex and gender, or about the relationship between race and intelligence. These mistaken beliefs form part of the culture of STEM, which is invariably hostile to trans people and people of colour as a result. These structural problems must be addressed before meaningful diversity can be achieved
