@@colorpg152 dude, that's just Gideon's ai lmao, no matter how many times he runs the fight that would happen because he's literally programmed to just frigging spell spam he's one of the easiest bosses because of it his ai doesn't really allow him to do much else at the moment than spam spells even if he's aiming the wrong way, and since he's built like the player he's got next to no poise so you can thwack him lightly and have him bounce around the place, Gideon has high damage out put but his ai and combat method is legit just spam and pray your aiming the right way still when it goes off, it also has to do with bosses having huge aggro range to ensure they stay engaged the entire time your in their arena while they are active, so by making Gideon aggressive to other ais such as opposing bosses that means that when you see him cast at the fog door, he's locked onto an enemy somewhere far off outside

I still remember fighting Gideon the first time. I fought him once before I beat Malenia. I thought it was cool how he had all the boss moves from the rest of the game. I lost to him, and then came back after I’d beaten Malenia. He busted out Scarlet Aeonia and I was like “Ohhhhh, he’s LITERALLY watching us the whole time.” It seems obvious now but that initial realization was really cool.

Something I like is that Gideon has the pure stats to beat all of these bosses, but time after time he makes poor moves and mistimes dodges, cause while he may be reasonably skilled, at heart he is far more a scholar than a fighter like the Tarnished of Little Renown

Grafted Scion: Nothing to say here, expected win is expected. Soldier of Godrick: Given how absurdly pervasive the memes about him are, the one shot is very satisfying. Stormveil bosses: Holy crap the Fell Omen put up a lot more of a fight than I expected, if his hits had actual damage behind them Gideon would have been torn apart...Godrick on the other hand got absolutely demolished Renalla: Shame on you , skipping the red wolf fight, regardless this was a surprisingly close fight, the "all knowing" apparently does not know how to deal with summoners. Radahn: This right here shows me that Gideon would have made a terrifying midgame boss, also clearly he remembered his lore, immediately went for the rot here. Godfrey Shade: in the battle to earn his boss room Ofnir managed to eke out the win...was kind of surprised actually Morgott: after the Margit fight I knew in my bones...the Omen king was going to thrash him Hard, and he did not disappoint! Fire Giant: Having flashbacks to my early tries on my mage build...moving on Godskin Duo: He actually BEAT a duo...then panicked when the boss fog didn't disappear and began throwing everything he had at it (Yes I know he was actually going for the enemies outside it, but I like that explanation better) Beast Clergyman: He said he wasn't going to let anyone steal from him, and he proved it, didn't even have to get serious...dang! I think I know why the Renala fight was a bit harder: *Enemy Management and Distance.* So, because of his size, and him being on somewhat equal footing with the player, Gideon has less Poise than the average boss, making him far more vulnerable to interrupts in his spell casting and attacks. Combine that with the fact that in general, Fromsoft Bosses don't do too well when it comes to handling more than one target at a time, and it's actually a good strategy on Renala's part: Use her summons to force Gideon away, making him waste his time with enemies that can stop his spell casting, and if she were allowed to (it's likely that she isn't allowed to do this during the fight because it would be one of the single, most frustrating fights in the game), she could continue to attack Gideon while her summons are out, pelting him into submission despite the damage imbalance. Distance is important because once Gideon is done with the summons, he has to work to close back up the gap between him and Renala to deal damage again, while she specializes in distance based attacks, mostly, with long wind ups. If she were as quick as say, Rykard, or Margit, she would likely interrupt him enough to defeat him outright. But, the difference in damage and health, along with the combatants making some interesting choices during combat, speak for themselves.

From a story and characterization standpoint, it would have been really cool if you could have summoned Gideon to help you in major boss fights after you claimed two Great Runes and proved yourself worthy of becoming Elden Lord. Well, if they'd had him remain true to his intentions and his relationship with you to the very end. Would have made for a far more memorable and beloved character, I think. Gideon betraying you makes zero sense, especially when he argues that Marika actually wants you to struggle for eternity and accomplish nothing, despite the fact that you'll likely hear from Melina, in Marika's own words, that she really did intend for the Tarnished to return and one of them to become Elden Lord. Gideon also wants to fix the broken world. So him trying to kill you in the end is baffling, because if he really believes that it's hopeless, why is he bothering trying to stop you if he is certain that you'll fail anyway? Better yet, why doesn't he try to help you so that you have the best possible chance to do the impossible? It would have been really fitting and awesome to have Gideon assist you against Radagon and the Elden Beast (provided that you aren't touched by the Three Fingers or carrying the Cursed Rune), as his way of showing that his quest for all knowledge to truly understand the world and his dedication towards fixing it stands in contrast to the Elden Beast/Greater Will, which mismanaged and misled the Tarnished to the point where it couldn't be saved.

Its pretty clear from his interactions throughout the game that Gideon is not a very good man. He orders the extermination of albinauric village, disowns his own daughter, likely set Ensha on you himself and steals knowledge you acquire in order to defeat you. Gideon claims to know a tarnished cannot be lord but i think Gideon is really trying to steal your glory. He’s trying to mindgame you in his fight, and he know HE cannot beat godfrey, radagon and elden beast. He thinks he’s the greatest, he even calls himself the fuck “All-knowing” Gideon is a textbook narcissist.

Through the game, it's obvious that while he doesn't think much of you at first, he gradually starts seeing you as a threat, and then tries to manipulate you into worse and worse spots to try and be rid of you, which all fail, proving his inferiority, despite his efforts to be "All Knowing." The true last straw is after you successfully burn the Erdtree, which shows him that you're not only capable of, but willing to go the distance for your goal, and that your ambition and skills were unmatched, which was something he lacked, and that seemed to finally piss him off enough that he felt he needed to go after you personally for actually accomplishing what he couldn't. Manipulative narcissist through and through. Gives zero shits about anyone but himself, despite putting up a front of power, and when threatened by someone literally better than him who surpasses him, he retaliated...and lost utterly due to his lack of skill and his ego. Think about it, you can (and most likely will) kill him while he tries to make some bullshit monologue about his trying to stop you, putting up a front about dying on a hill of martyrdom, while he is really just bitter that he was unable to afcomplish what you have. No other boss has that kind of opportunity, trying to show that he's all talk, and that talk has finally failed him.

Gideon actually made several wise decisions and consistently good dodges in the first few fights. Those were quite fun to watch, and the finish to the Rennala fight was especially interesting. While Gideon needed to skip Radahn's bow opening, he fought surprisingly well against the Starscourge up close. Even the false Godfrey couldn't measure up, but Morgott, perhaps true to the lore of Gideon having to flee the first Roundtable Hold, put a stop to Ofnir after a dramatic battle. I was surprised to see that, if the Godskin Duo was an actual duo, Gideon would have genuinely won. Heck, if not for his AI glitching and attacking people outside of the boss room, Gideon may have *still* won in that brief window of facing a single godskinner! It wasn't guaranteed, but I was interested to see if he could do it. What a shame, maybe foes outside of boss arenas should be killed beforehand for these videos. I'm not sure why Gideon shot the floor to begin that fight either. From there, the bosses tended to have Gideon's number, but I am curious why this Gideon lacked Comet Azur and Triple Rings of Light. I've heard that completing Sellen's quest line can make the former disappear from Gideon's arsenal, but why would he ever lack the latter? Still, Gideon did quite well even without that spell and Incantation, and when in doubt, Comet makes for a great spell that flows into successive shots. His mace is surprisingly okay in melee too, but he hardly uses it for that. In the cases where Gideon inflicted the Scarlet Rot before he died, did the bosses, in this case the God-Devouring Serpent and Placidusax, actually die before the Scarlet Rot timer ended? It would be fun to see if he managed to get a tie. Thanks again, Garden of Eyes!

When Gideon learns a new spell from quest progression (Scarlet Aeonia, Rykard's Rancor, etc) it bumps another spell from his list, it doesn't just add it on. So if he's given those special spells, he loses the others.

I would've liked if he had some unique attacks, inspired from the bosses. Imagine Gideon riding on a full moon, circling the player, and then backflipping off it while sending it at the player. That would probably the coolest sorcery shit in any souls game. Or imagine him jumping high up to the roof and pulling a Radahn on you, or a Placidusax, depending on if you kill him before fighting Gideon. Or hell even giving him some crucible spells would be good too, crucible wings would be sick. However I think the most annoying thing is that Gideon's weapon doesn't cast both sorcery and incantations. IT ISN'T EVEN A STAFF??? For some reason they decided to give Gideon a mace, instead of a staff that can cast any magic.

@@capolean2902 I haven't counted how many spell slots she should be using. Comet Azur and her Full Moon are already 5 just by themselves though. Also there's kind of limited options for her, since it might be kind of out of place for her to be using sorceries other than the Raya Lucarian Glintstone ones. And it wouldn't really make sense to have her use any of the lower int requirement ones, especially since most of them are just weaker versions of something she already has.

Honestly, the "all boss spells" variant actually seems weaker. Scarlet Aeonia is way too slow, Bloodboon does too little damage if you don't use it consistently enough to proc bleed, and he uses Rykard's Rancor on small, fast bosses where it never hits. His base variant where he mostly spams Comet and Triple Rings would probably do better. Just look what comet spam did to poor Godrick.

For all his "knowledge" his audacity was hilariously undeserved, underestimating both his daughter and Mohg how he did. He's a dummy who'd die a quick, dumb death to anyone that isn't a washed up never-been like Godrick. Heck, other Tarnished like Fia would probably take him out considering she easily killed her attempted assassin in just a silk dress...even Millicent would shred him, lore wise, beating 4 of Malenia's competing proteges at once. His moveset is completely different vs. a player (or player-like NPC) than against normal enemies. He didn't use Comet Azur or the disk attack at all in all his other fights that I saw, and he was far more passive. Still did better than I expected.

A good way of buffing him would be to maybe reduce some of his casting times, buff his health, increase his arsenal, and make it impossible for his ai to try drinking from an empty flask (A buff all tarnished npcs could use tbh).

In several of these it seemed like Gideon bugged out in ways that really hurt his performance, the most obvious being his aggro suddenly switching to enemies outside of the boss room and getting stuck like that. Less noticeable was him bugging out against Morgott, never even attempting to heal once despite having the time to use spells like Bloodboon and Scarlet Aeonia. I think with a few tweaks to remove bugs he may have at least one or two more wins on his belt.

He keeps Morgott's identity secret (even using the gender neutral "they" pronoun to not give away anything), suggesting that he never met him and he has way less info about the shardbearers after Altus Plateau (and Rykard). I think part of the reason Gideon struggled with Rennala is because she has a fairly high resistance to magic from my understanding so his spells weren’t doing nearly as much damage as they normally would have.

I finally got to and beat Gideon the other day. I had NO idea he was such a tornado monster. As a dumb Bonk-Bonk player i was shocked how crazy and touch-and-go his fight would be. I won after a handful of tries but even now i have no idea how i won. I just did stuff and tried not to die and all of a sudden i was able to land a killing blow. Have no idea if it was because of solid skill or i just blacked out and woke up and i had won.

I'm not surprised he did relatively well. Gideon can dole out huge amounts of damage, it's just that he doesn't have a lot of health and he stands there monologuing like a plank when you first enter the arena, meaning you can get in a ton of free damage and don't really notice his damage output. If you do a low damage run, say unupgraded weapon, or hell, even archery only, this guy is a solid brick wall that takes some serious gitting gud. His limitation is clearly his AI, give this build to a player, they would monster every boss in the game. If there's one thing I can criticize about the video, it's the obnoxiously loud bongs when you want to make a snarky remark, absolutely no need for those.

This made me realise how insanely strong the "power to turn Runes into strength" is that Melina gives you. Of course it's a basic mechanic that has been in all the Souls games, but it's what separates you from other Tarnished. If Melina didn't help you, Godfrey (Hourah Loux) and Gideon Ofnir would be the 2 strongest Tarnished in the world, and Gideon is serious about "A man cannot kill a God" because he knows this. Also when you get the Flame of Frenzy (spoilers below if you haven't done that yet), Melina tells you that she will kill you if you become Elden Lord, because that's her responsibility for allowing you to use the strength of runes (to level up). Edit: Now that I think about it, Melina might have played a part in putting Vyke into the Evergaol because he got dangerously close to becoming Elden Lord after he met the 3 Fingers

Gotta admit, im kinda tired of seeing these fights where people spawn the other bosses right next to radahn. It completely skips the part of the fight where he mercilessly pelts you with arrows. Also how did that meteor do only 946 damage to gideon? To many npcs ive seen it do almost 11k

Gideon has low poise and thus can gain invincibility frames from being knocked over by the meteor, preventing him from taking ridiculous damage. Unlike higher poise bosses that don't usually get knocked over and eat the full 11K

I agree with you about people placing enemies close or closer to Radahn. However, regarding the meteorite attack, Gideon either uses a player model or is based enough on a player model that he can get sent flying/knocked down for i-frames. That's why Gideon took much less damage from the meteorite attack than other bosses and enemies have taken.

he had access to optional boss spells but not once did he use his normal spells of rings of gold and comet azur. they must have been disabled cause the ACTUAL gideon boss still used them, also, clear out the enemies outside of the arenas before you unpause the ai, cause half the time he targets them on a phase transition and not the boss.

Certain attacks are replaced by certain variants. No Gideon has every attack available. I think the rings are one of the replaced spells when you kill all the bosses that give gideon spells.

@@nightscout9979 I watched a video that explained it. Above the gideon fight, there are actually like 7 gideons standing still. Each one has the different "loadouts" so to speak. Of course, I wouldn't doubt if someone made a modded Gideon and actually gave him access to all the spells.
