Also with 2nd phase melania she blooms the 3rd time, then ascends to godhood able to use the bio-nuke as she pleases that is capable of the infesting the entirety of the world with cancer. On the other hand Radahn might actually use the real stars of rain sorcery but with actual stars, if we ever see a prime Radahn and with him ascending to godhood then it'll be more meteors, moons, and stars than summons. Would be cool to see world boss version of him at his prime.

Being that she was half brother to Radahn and knew him most likely pretty well and his exploits and victories first hand, she would know that he was the real deal. Not to mention that he was still just a MaSsIvE guy, I can't imagine someone wouldn't be at least a little intimidated, even someone as skilled in combat as herself. The best fighters in the world or in any case creation know not to underestimate their opponents and while she had never been defeated that by no means means that she would have not acknowledged his power and skill. It’s so cool how she grabs her sword immediately with her other hand without missing a step to secure the opening she made. And considering it was Malenia who reached Radhan and not the other way round, meaning her campaign had traveled the Entire length of the continent, she absolutely would not stop at the last place left. And I agree they most likely would have had a respect and cordial relationship before the shattering. The cutscene presents the fight in almost a somber way because it was literally the very end of the war and as the strongest demigods they were the only two left.

It feels very retconned to make it fit into the idea they had for the DLC. I still 100% believe the Lord brother was intended to be the resurrected Godwyn, considering it would have been full circle that his death was instrumental in the shattering. The devs just fell in love with Radahn, as did everyone else and so wanted nothing more than to bring him back. It was a mistake. Having to fight Godwyn and then Miquella with Godwyn would have been so much more satisfying. This was cheap

Radahn and Malenia. Two absolute beasts with the power to restore order. Either could have ruled and it would have been fine. They just had to have one survivor. But instead they defeated each other and none ascended. They were the best chance of the lands between and ended up snuffing that hope out, both reduced to nothing but roadblocks to an eventual elden lord. What a tragedy. And on top of that, neither gets to die at their best. Radahn becomes a wild animal and Malenia gets shanked right after awakening from a coma, debatably never reaching her full potential.

For me it wasn't that hard. Granted, I think it had more to do with my build than my skill. I just used an arcane Faith Build. My Mimic had Erden Heal and a lot of bleed abilities and while it was fighting I just bullied her with Swarm of Flies. Only died to her twice in phase 1. 1st time because I was right next to her and didn't expect getting speed blitz like that and the other was just me fucking up. Once I figured out how to survive her Scarlet Aeonia she uses at the start, I just bullied her.

Meanwhile, Radahn continues to carry out his duty in keeping the stars still, but he’s also lost himself, wandering the wilds like an animal. We see the love for both characters in the actions of their knights. The Cleanrots knights wither away from Rot willingly out of love for Malenia, and the Cleanrot Knightess Finlay carried Malenia home to the Haligtree after the battle, fighting off all manner of foes along the way. Radahn’s knights remain in Caelid, far from their homes and stave off the Rot with fire, while simultaneously gathering for a grand festival to honor their general and allow any warriors brave enough to challenge the Starscourge, granting him an honorable death in combat. I love both of these characters and their stories so much. My previous comment about this somehow got deleted, but I really hope the fandom stops twisting this fight to be a competitive 1v1 battle and pitting the two characters against each other. They’re both undeniably flawed, but also with extremely noble qualities to be found. I’m so glad Myazaki and Martin gave us such rich stories to delve into, honestly.

I thought Radahn was just some warmongering giant. Turns out he learned gravity magic so he could always ride his scrawny horse. And that even if he is already insane and cannibalistic, somehow his love for his horse still remained since he hasn't eaten it and he is still riding it (even though the horse is suffering but that's a given since Radahn already went crazy). Pretty wholesome and sad at the same time. Edit: Apparently there's more stuff about him like despite becoming crazy because of the scarlet rot, his men are still very loyal to him. He was apparently the mightiest of all the demigods (and yet he still wanted to ride on his now even smaller horse, he really loved his horse huh). That and along with many others really suggest that he was indeed a great guy.

But the man has been eaten away from the inside out due to her scarlet rot for countless years and as such has no mind left. His unconscious body uses his Gravity power 24/7 just so he can keep his horse with him and he is actively defending the world from an impending meteor storm from outer space at all times. To say the odds are stacked against him would be putting it too lightly and he still puts up an amazing fight fit for a Lord.

The people saying this didn't solo Radahn, they used the summons. They sent an army of NPCs with HP in the range of 3-4 times that of the player to be slaughtered as a distraction in the hopes they could land some hits on him before he inevitably destroys them. If you fight them both 1 on 1 you can stunlock Malenia easily and Radahn will ruin your day. The comparisons aren't even close.

This comment was made a while ago, but I'm going to reply anyway lol, because there are actually a few reasons as to why Malenia may have fought Radahn. 1) If Miquella was kidnapped before the battle, then we can assume she was on a conquest looking for Miquella, and she ended up in Caelid after eitehr a) having looked everywhere, or b) sensing that he was in Caelid (Mohg's palace is underneath Caelid, almost directly underneath where they fought). 2) She was fighting Radahn because he was the biggest threat to Miquella's eventual ascension to godhood, being one of the few beings who could challenge his rule. 3) This is an interesting one. Miquella is associated with Castle Sol, whose denizens were attempting to bring about the eclipse so that the souless demigods could be returned to life. The first souless demigod was Godwyn of course, who was killed in body and not in soul by the curse mark of death. The others we have no idea how, but they are stated to be souless demigods by Mausoleum Knight equipment item descriptions. Furthermore, it is heavily implied that Miquella, Malenia, and Godwyn were all very close to each other (there are statues depicting a man who is presumably Godwyn wrapping his arms around around both Malenia and Miquella). Furthermore, the description for a weapon called the Golden Epitath states that some child, who is Godwyn's brother, infused with it prayer, asking him to die a true death. This could be no one else but Miquella. Radahn fought for his life, Malenia fought for Miquella, and their battle was going nowhere. Malenia, knowing that she will not see her brother again if she doesn't win the battle, and knowing that when he ascends to godhood could simply remove the scarlet rot's influence and presence on the world, unleashed it for what she percieved as the great good. Another great theory also associated with this is that it is possible that Miquella and Ranni (and potentially Marika, as it is stated she has ties with the Numen, of which the black knives are all women Numen) all conspired with each other to assassinate Godwyn. In fact, Rykard also did, but moreso took part as a failsafe in case the stealing of the rune of death was a failure/Maliketh chased Ranni with the fragment of the rune of death to fight and hold him off. Especially after the DLC image has come out, many people believe that Miquella was torrent's former master. Ranni says she was entrusted with the spirit calling bell and the lone wolf ashes by Torrent's former master. Another connection is that the whistle is made of gold, and Miquella is associated with unalloyed gold. Both wanted to walk away from the golden order, and both were Empyreans, and the fate of the demigods is dictated by the stars, which Radahn stopped the motion of, and thus stopped their fates from continuing. So perhaps the three Empyreans, both of whom wanted to reach their destiny by relieving the golden order and both of whom despised the outer gods and wanted their influence on the lands gone, conspired to kill Godwyn, and then to kill Radahn who prevented their fates from being fulfilled so that Ranni may voyage the stars and so that Miquella could bless the land with abundance and free his sister of the scarlet rot. This gives even more reason for Malenia to have released the rot; Miquella NEEDED Radahn dead in order for his fate to progress. Perhaps this is why those of the Haligtree never found him; to find Miquella would be to resume his fate, but Radahn was still alive meaning no god's fate could resume. Even further, where else do we find black knife assassins? Ordina, the liturgical town that leads to the Haligtree. Maybe Miquella only wants to "revive" Godwyn and grant him true death in order to kill the Death Root, an unforeseen consequence of the accursed half curse mark, which could potentially lead to the extinguishing of all life if allowed to spread to much. Anyway sorry about the rant.

So basically after losing to Radahn…she killed herself on his back to resurrect in the form of “Malenia - The Goddess of Rot”- thereby spreading the scarlet rot through that explosion (and Radahn was strong enough to take it). I mean she did loose to Radahn (and thats seems rather obvious). I think Radahn went crazy after this battle since he too was inflicted with the Scarlet Rot since he was literally at the epicenter of the explosion that spread the rot in the first place - thereby sharing the title of Patient Zero with Malenia

Neither of them really won but you can make an argument for both. Malenia won by making Radahn go braindead due to the rot, Radahn won the duel honorably while still holding back. But no matter what, Caelid losing is the tragedy of the story.

@Kyuku Yeah ignore the fact that Malenia was beaten bloody by Radahn in the trailer and that Millicent states clearly that she couldn't beat Radahn without flowering, which left her in a comatose state until we tarnished came to wake her up (We don't know if Radahn was left uncounscious for a while, but we know for a fact that he woke up before Malenia did,where he could have finished her in a defensless state if not fo Finlay). Plus Radahn conquered the stars (creatures like Astel) while Malenia beat Godrick, your point makes no sense.

Malenia was not holding back her true power, she was holding back the scarlet rot to prevent an outer god to take over her body. The goddess of rot is not Malenia and even tough her second phase suggest she ascended to godhood, her item description states that she has to flower 3 times for the outer god to take control. We might see that in a DLC tho, as i believe now the 3rd bloom is ongoing at the roots of Miquella's erdtree. Even then, a demi god can beat a god just like the tarnished defeated the elden beast.

I like to believe that Malenia engaged first in order to protect Miquella’s rebirth from Radahn since Radahn was among the strongest demigods and he would likely go after Miquella while he was in slumber. Makes sense since Malenia says Miquella is the most fearsome demigod. However after fighting Radahn, Malenia saw they both were evenly matched and she had to resort to her bloom and spread her rot. That way she gets to live to wait for her brother while also disabling Radahn. Sadly Mohg probably used this time to abduct Miquella. In the end, Malenia lost her brother and Radahn lost his sanity.

I don’t think see why Radahn would have any interest in miquella. For starters getting to the haligtree is incredibly difficult, Gideon couldn’t even find the medallions until the tarnished came along. Secondly if he wanted a great rune Godrick is a much easier target as he is A. Basically next door to caelid B. Isn’t nearly as fortified as the haligtree. Thirdly if he had a way to the haligtree he would have to take his army across the entire lands between to get there. I imagine Malenia wouldn’t do the exact same thing unless she was certain Radahn was a threat. A lot of people have said the theory that Malenia tried to kill Radahn so the stars would move again so they could get the fingerslayer blade just like what Ranni was doing There’s also another theory that he was trying to get the stars moving so he could summon an eclipse but I think the fingerslaying blade one is more likely personally

It wasn't a stalemate. Radahn was completely dominating her - that's what drove her to use her rot. She couldn't stand the idea of losing her title as undefeated. Her blow wasn't even enough to phase him, and it was her last resort before her bloom.

@@DDabidu It really isnt, it takes a lot of undermining and hoop jumping to speculate otherwise. Radahn’s name is “promised consort” Radahn, firstly implying the promise was made. The term “promised” has been used historically to refer to marriages. Upon entering the boss room Miquella refers to Radahn as his “loyal blade” also implying that Radahn had accepted, as its not the type of terminology you would use for someone who had outright rejected you. Freyja, a redmane soldier that Radahn himself had recruited into his most loyal and trustworthy ranks had also confirmed that this is exactly what Radahn wants. Not only does this give us insight on Radahn’s perspective, but her remaining faithful toward Miquella tells us that she isnt under the impression Miquella and Radahn were ever at odds, unlike Ansbach who is immediately troubled Mogh’s treatment, and rebels the moment the enchantment is lifted. If Radahn had rejected Miquella and Freyja knew this, there’s no way she’d agree to any ritual that would condemn Radahn to an unwilling fate. We know Radahn is consciousness and present because Ansbach addresses him personally, greeting him and confronting him on using Mogh’s body. The only “up in the air” part is that it isn’t said or written plainly, but honestly nothing ever is, even the things we’ve come to accept as fact. You’d have to jump hoops and undermine a lot of information to argue otherwise.

The stars weren't falling to blow up Mistwood (except for one tiny Meteor that blew a hole on the Eternal City). But it is still super impressive to lock the stars in stasis to the point of stopping their cycles.

Malenia : - had cut his feet and had him on his knees before using her rot. Did not leave the battlefield, was carried out of here. Implying radahn after being hit by the rot was not immediately able to move and finnish her off. Its even arguable that he could have been knocked out just like her. Its a draw. - fights for her cursed brother - fights with most of her limbs gone and replaced by prostethics because of her own power, not her enemies - never lost a fight - is just as sane and powerful if not more after this fight, while radahn, still incredibly powerful and badass is undoubtedly weaker than he was, and crazier. Its possible Radahn may have been the stronger one at the time of her fight, but by the end of the game, she clearly is ahead. She became an actual goddess, not a demi god anymore.

She needed one more death for a specific condition to become the goddess of rot and likewise didn't see any significant improvement with her combat prowess in her base form, however we did see her sit inside a tree in a chronic depression due to her brother being gone.
