Now you free from simping Ranni and can skip her quest easily.
This skip allows you traverse to Ainsel River earlier and take 7th Somber Smithing Stone (also 7-8-9 in Lake of Rot).
*You still need to complete Ranni's quest for Moonlight Greatsword.

A trick that made this way easier was turning off camera auto rotation and aiming the camera at the ground. This not only helps with aiming your jumps better, but reduces lag.

It works. However... this can drive you crazy for no good reason, as can be seen in comments here. The only real challenge before you get to the portal the normal way is actually Radhan, for example with an int build using night comet and the mist spell, but other builds work fine too. Radhan is way easier than this skip though... I see a skilled guy doing the skip on video bc he does a nohit Astel sword run; that makes sense. For a normal run... don't go jumpin' crazy.

It was hard but not impossible, my only tip for people struggling is to jump further onto the second tree then you’d think. Once I noticed I was going to short I got it within 10 minutes.

The imput delay in this game makes this just about impossible. EVERY time i get on the second tree and try to jump my imput is ignored and i just fall. If it manages to read my jump its always 100ms off and by the time i jump ive slipped about 2 feet which makes this impossible. Ive been going at it for 3 hours, this is just stupid im done.

Yeah the input delay is nuts. I'm on PS5 and tried both setting to high performance mode and high quality mode with ray tracing, hoping that slowing the game will improve my chances at getting the right timing. When I press jump while on the first tree, my horse does not jump until it has landed on the ground. Once I managed to land on the second tree and then jump again did nothing until I landed on the ground. Super frustrating! LOL I don't like being defeated though, so back at it...... LOL

There’s a tiny spot on every tree in the game that you can land. It’s not so easy to do but it’s still work.

I can reliably land on the first tree, so you can definitely still land on trees. I can land on the second tree maybe once out of every 50 attempts. But I've not been able to then jump off at that point, as I seem to fall off the second tree immediately after landing on it.
