If want the story outright without having to go through "all the trouble of figuring it out" then just look it up, its not that you can spend an hour or 2 of your day to look it up if you really want to know.

There is a clear sequence of events (though since this is an OPEN WORLD GAME you are given some leeway when it comes to certain things, like which two Shardbearers to kill to gain access to Leyndell). Most enemies in the game have backstories and all the story important bosses have entire facets of the lore dedicated to them. The cutscenes may be short, but that's irrelevant. And there are countless moral lessons you can take away from Elden Ring (though it doesn't need one since again it's a GAME).

@@stephenconde705 I see your point but if the combat sucked the game would be ass. AND it is one of the few AAA games that allows you to grind like its old school RuneScape. And the amount of grinding is what determines your difficulty level, pretty genius design. You could sit there killing albinaucs for however long you want starting from RL 1 - X to determine the difficulty of that playthrough. And the fact that “experience” is also currency. Genius. Started with dark souls obviously, but amazing design and choice to carry it over. I’m not a lore junkie I play mostly for PvP (but have gotten my main pve character to ng+8) and this is what keeps me playing, still have no clue what’s going on in the story; skip cutscenes/dialogue. But don’t care. Combats amazing, gameplay outside of story has a shit ton to do, it’s a collectors dream, and pvp has a huge community

The Souls games are very vague and more idea based and player focused, I think it is done on purpose it is just enough to hint at something to give inspiration to the writers without actually delving into the story, there is no story in these games in the same sense of stories in other mediums. Anyone who says otherwise are reaching for things (item descriptions are not story material).

Ive watched a ton of lore videos and each one has different interpretations of the story. A lot of those videos just say, "This is what happened." But not a lot of "This is WHY this happened." Like why do we have Rannalas great rune but the egg is still intact? I thought the rune was the egg or in the egg or something. Was phase 2 of Rannalas fight an illusion? A dream world? Why does Ranni still want to work with us after we almost unalive her mother? Does she know what we did? Is the magic that caused phase 2 of the fight set up beforehand so she doesnt know? Why was Ranni sitting in front of a bloody 3 fingers? Why did she fight it now after all these years? How is Ranni an emphyerian? Was Marika split in 2? This isnt made clear. This is all just from 1 small portion of the story. You get no answers so it makes the story feel awful since you just give up on knowing anything.

However as for the three fingers, they're actually two fingers that are facing away from us, bent and misshapen (the thing that kinda looks like a thumb is just the back of the hand when you look at the model). For why she didn't fight it until now, well despite us not being sure she hasn't attempted it before, the major reason is that she needed the Finger Slayer Blade to actually kill it, and to get the blade she needed to find Nokron. Problem being, Nokron ain't easy to find and so she needed someone to slay Radahn so the fate of the stars would once more be free and for the big meteor to blast it open (the blade also requires the wielder to have a fate, so since the demigods' fates are tied to the stars she wouldn't be able to use it without Radahn dying/relinquishing his hold anyway). And as for how Ranni is an empyrean, well that's kind of a double question, because of course she is the child of Rennala and Radagon, Radagon secretly being part of Marika. They're a god with multiple aspects (it apparently ties in with beliefs surrounding alchemy. Lot's of elden ring references alchemy and metals, we literally play as a person who's grace of Gold was taken away and thus became dull and faded, or Tarnished) But it doesn't cut it just to be a demigod, you also need to be seen as fit to become an heir to the role of God by the Greater Will and by extension the Fingers. But Ranni wants to uproot and get rid of the entire system, so why would the Greater Will choose her? Well the dlc might have shed a bit of light on that I'm not quite sure what to make of it yet (it seems like the Erdtree faithful may have misinterpreted it), but one thing is safe to say, the fingers are slow as shit to relay information between themselves and the Greater Will, if they're even capable of it anymore. I mean once they realized Radagon sealed the Erdtree they freaked out and had to contact the Greater Will, but as Enya says it might take thousands of years before they get a response. So the Greater Will might not even be aware of Ranni's plot to rid the world of all godly influence, it probably just thinks "oh she's overthrowing her mom to become my new spokesperson" and seeing as it was chill with Marika overthrowing the previous era that might not be a big deal. The Greater Will could also be long gone by now (haven't finished the dlc so idk)

No, stupid, Dragon Cult and Dragon Communion arent the same thing! One has Red Lightning and has tenuous connections to the storm-calling magic that Godrick and Godfrey use, and the other has yellow lightning and was invented by Godwyn after he BEFRIENDED tbe dragons who use the red lightning. No, not GodFREY, GodWYN. Big difference. And then he half-died, and one of the dragons got stuck in his dream and his lightning got corrupted by death bugs. But only the yellow lightning, not the red lightning. And remember who the Numen are, and why the Cuckoo sect attacked Caria, and the important lore distinctions difference between Flame, Fire Breath, Golden Fire Breath, Scarlet Rot Breath, Fire of Slumber, Flame of Frenzy Ghostflame, Black Flame, and Blade of Death are. Yeah, all the enemy attacks just look like fire, but they're entirely different in the story. Elden Ring synopsis. You are a dead guy who’s been brought back by an entity, known as queen merika. But not so that your soul could pass on to heaven. But so that you could save heaven from the chaos that is erupted because of the shattering of the Elden ring. Because of the shattering of the Elden ring. Death Has basically taken a holiday, which is why you are able to respawn when you die. You beat the game by collecting shards of the Eldon Ring from those who have taken them for their own purposes. And put them back together to become Eldon Lord. Nuance is you can Choose others to rule alongside you. Or to let the chaos continue because you like killing. You are by far the weakest of the week when it comes to Warriors, which is why you have to build yourself up. Not through stats. But reflexes. And timing. And yes, high stats help. If you don’t understand timing. Dodging. Or latency(lol) you will go hollow. Basically the point of the game is perseverance. Because when you come back from the dead. Boss has only one life. You have infinite. And yes, dying is frustrating being able to completely dissect every single one of your opponents tactics. And then absolutely circumventing them. Makes the reward at the end all the sweeter. Basically hard work and intelligently. And death is nothing to be afraid of. Because you have been called for a greater purpose. I probably got everything wrong. So you may roast me now*)

See because you learn through playing.. thats by design. The opening cutscene of the souls bourne/sekiro is supposed to give you just enough to make you want learn more.. but yea they pretty much give you shit all behind really cool art an cinematic. And say "go figure it out dummy!"
