Ive always played rpgs..mostly jrpgs. Started with breath of fire 1 and 2, secret of mana, and final fantasy 2(us) on snes. My first set of games when i got it from my cousin. When 2011 came around i still played them, was burnted out by ff13. I was playing mostly fps games. I got skyrim wore it out in 6 months..dont get me wrong i love skyrim..one of the best games ever made imo...but i was losing that flame..i started feeling burnt out. Then summer 2012 i randomly popped into game stop to look for a game and the guy asked me if i liked casual gaming or to be challenged...i like both but i said something hard sounds fun. He recommended dark souls...on sale for like 20 bucks. I got home popped it in and i fell in love with the feel and the atmosphere immediately in the tutorial. Got through it after like a hour...then when i got to firelink i thought i was supposed to go to the graveyard and i became tunnel visioned into trying to make it to the catacombs, and then i gave up after a few hours..i didnt hate it i was just very distracted at that point in my life and giving up was what i did..but that world, the firelink theme would randomly pop in my head and about a month of thinking about playing it, i picked it back up. I got on the right path and I went through the game dying, losing my souls, get griefed by invaders, even became a griefer, laughed, cried, philosophized, endured, and beat it. It had that spark to reignite the flame that was dying. Hell it literally had a impact on so much in my life..its very important to me. I followed it ever since, and eventually found some others games with worlds and stories that moved me in a profound way. So seeing each title get more and more attention is just an great feeling. From what Miyazaki has said in interviews, these are the Shadow Lands where Marika originates from, something happened to have it become disconnected from the Erdtree. Miquella has come here to retrace his mother's steps, but Messmer the Impaler seems to be its ruler, and sits in the same throne the Demi Gods have outside the Erdtree. Pilgrims have followed Miquella here to be friendly NPCs as we track down Miqulla on their journey. Considering his red hair and how he calls for his mother, Messmer may be a bastard Empyrean.

Yeah I noticed that too. It seems to signify a veil of sleep. The shadow realm is probably a realm of dreams controlled by Miquella who appears to be influenced by a god devouring serpent in it's infancy within that realm. Or perhaps it is a representation of Mohg's influence since this Miquella is post-Mohg-cocoon. "touch the withered arm and travel to the shadow realm" is obviously referring to the cocoon in Mohg's arena so everyone had that right from the start. Either way the idea of a whole Shadow Realm is very Link to the Past and I love it.

It's fascinating how many things were changed in terms of placement or content between the time this trailer came out and the finished product a few months later, based on what we see here. First discrepancy is that Torrent is being ridden in the Abyssal Woods, something we cannot do in the finished version since he's terrified of the Frenzied Flame. Second is Messmer's voice actor being changed, or at least the voice being different. Third is the black knight as a boss in the Shadow Keep plaza, replacing the Golden Hippo, which also connects to the later scene of the unique Golden Hippo with the second phase that would eventually be the boss in that plaza being an open world enemy instead. Other changes are the Blackgaol Knight and Dancer of Ranah NPC mausoleum bosses being shown as non-phantom NPC enemies in the open world, instead of phantoms in the mausoleums that they were as bosses of the released game. Finally, the Miquella "cutscene" at the end with the apparent "unveiling" of the Shadow Lands may have been completely cut, though I think people also jumped to conclusions about that scene and mistakenly thought it meant more than it did, I think they just wanted a shot of Miquella, there was no actual unveiling at all.
