This episode we finally make our way into the Shunning Grounds. This is probably the worst part of the game imo but it's definitely an area we need to visit as it leads to a trophy boss, one of the endings, and some notable loot like the fingerprint greatshield and unendurable frenzy.

this is one of my favorite parts of the game, an amazing homage to the Depths / Blighttown IMO. Its one of the most intricately designed dungeons in the game and even has a dungeon within a dungeon. I really appreciate that opening shortcuts back to the grace is worthwhile here, and you get that feeling DS1 did so well of looping back to safety and conquering an area. I get that it can be annoying but that doesn't mean its badly designed.

I'm absolutely trying this. I've died 25 times now, no exaggeration, to these fucking imps and lobsters. Getting so frustrated. I had 25% or less health left on the 2nd lobster and he picked me up and I couldn't get out of his grasp in time to heal otherwise he would have died and I would have been safe. Ughh. Worst dungeon ever. Cowboy you weren't kidding.

@@bryanjustin147 The imp part is quite easy tho, you can just rush through with or even without the shield, for the 2 lobsters, I'll recommend rushing to the grace, rest and then use all your highest hitting spells/ skills to kill the 1st one right in front of Leyndell catacomb and then try to 1v1 the one roaming around

A lot of their attacks aren't even parriable. These enemies are among my most hated now. Tanky as all hell quicker than they have any business being and now they have ranged attacks in here., just great.

For anyone wondering where he starts (since it's not called the Subterranean Stunning Grounds Grace) and CB doesn't go to his map to start... I remember getting this grace in his previous episode, but I couldn't remember what it was called. It's called, rather uninformatively, Underground Roadside). If you need to run there, the fastest way to get to the well is the Avenue Balcony Grace. Run right toward the Bow Knight, pass him, and jump off to the left. The well that is the entry into that area will be nearby.

Once you have reached this point in progression (rested at Elden Throne grace w/ Morgott defeated), you can go back to Godrick's throne/final Stormveil grace and rest to get Nepheli, Kenneth, and Gostoc quests advanced- this allows you to purchase the Parry Buckler (best frames for parrying) and an Ancient Smithing stone from Gostoc- Nepheli also gives you a free one (probably in case you killed Gostoc early). I talked to Nepheli, Kenneth, and Gostoc then rested at the 'Godrick the Grafted' point of grace. After resting there 1-2x, Gostoc and the other two will have moved to the throne room completing their quest-lines.

For those like me struggling with the jump at 6:45 -- there is a small platform right on top of the pillar that you can land on before falling down to the pipe that makes you land without taking fall damage.

You can also walk to the lower part of the pipe (after the first jump) and you can walk off, crouch to hide when you hit the ground and hide behind the pipe to get ready for lobster takeout : )

There is a lower pipe you can drop to , then drop to the floor. It's a lot safer than trying to land on that little pipe. Kill all the imps, either out of necessity or revenge, then walk along that first pipe until you see another pipe underneath that you can land on. You may still need the cat talisman though. My character is basically flat from all the times he went splat in this game.

9:40 The shackel also reveals hidden walls in a pretty huge area ive only had to use it once maby twice in all dungeons so far someone would have to test the range limits but if your ever unsure just pop it and all nearby hidden passages will be uncovered

It wasn't as well known when the game came out I guess. And as much as CB rails against stuff sometimes it almost makes you not want to put it in the comments because you don't want it to seem contradictory or seem disrespectful because I very much enjoy these walkthroughs and his work. Like the margots shackle early on, some of the stat knot tears, talismans and there's something else I can't remember right off, but it's something I used often but he said it was pointless. (Might have been a spell or something) I was actually rewatching a video in a subsequent playthrough just to find the item and he's talking about how worthless it is as he's going to get it lol. I'm sure updates have changed a lot of things too. But yea, I use the shackles as much as any item other than my weapon. I've never once used it on mohgs or Margot tho lol.

You can buy the Margit Shackle from Patches when he's in his first location in the cave you just need to reload the area. The Shackle can be used on all Margit variants including Morgot

For those using bloodfang: Easiest way for me to take out the big guys is using the bloodhound special attack of L2 then R2 while double handing the blade. They react slowly at first so to get the first hit should be easy. Do L2 R2, then follow up with L2 staggers them to finish them easily, then rinse and repeat. This was particularly useful when like four of these guys just kept dropping in. There is a small room with one of these guys guarding a ladder. Do not ignore him and go up the ladder, if you do just know there are three up there waiting and there is a door you open pretty slowly so just saying, and there is also a lever to open up a shortcut to the grace. So it's probably worth killing all these guys. What happened with me is I killed the guy guarding the ladder, then another guy jumped in, killed him, then another guy climbed down the ladder, so I killed him, and then another f#€ker jumped in after him. So if you keep doing that you'll face them 1 on 1, but doing L2 R2 L2, while double handing the bloodfang to use its special attack, you will stagger them quickly to finish them off. Which is crucial before all those guys jump down. Just note this does use fp so have two or three blue flasks available.

I finally made it past the lobsters by just running thru the area and finding the grace in the catacombs. After I did that, it gave me a great vantage point and protection to be able to shoot both the lobsters with sleep arrows, giving me enough time to loot the area, and get the shackle. whew

Fun fact if you use the mohg or the morgot seal that binds them in these dungeons, it will lower the towers blowing flame so you don’t have to run snd avoid the flame and then hit the tower. It also reveals any hidden walls. And the radius on it is pretty good. I tried it out on the first hidden wall to see if it would work cause I had only read it worked and it did. Then when I got up to the first tower sending fire it was already lowered . So I just beat the dudes on fire and continued lol.

PROTIP: I had my Great Stars mace maxed out with Prayerful Strike against those beefy boys and it breaks their poise no problem. One hit with Prayerful Strike knocks them down, and you can just go to town on them as long as they are within reach. Made going through this area sooooo much easier. No need for parry's with said weapon and art.

Indeed it makes it much easier. Got Great Stars to + 20 by pilfering the Smithing 7s on suicide runs. Discovered the exit door doing this so after the jump run to the exit door get the grace there and rest. This causes the lobster boys to rest and you can now sneak up on them and get your Prayerful Strike then finish them with a couple or three swings.

I used Morgott's Cursed Sword on the most of my second playthrough. It is in fact a solid weapon, but only when you have high enough arcane. With about 70 arcane, this weapon can reach about 100 bloodloss build up.

A dagger has 97 at 60 arcane. The sword is rubbish and scales terriblely if you have to dump 10 more points in arcane to get 3 blood loss. I'm 99.99% uchigatana has baseline 45 bleed where as the curse sword has 33, make uchigata bleed or occult and boom you have 97 bleed at 60 arcane saving 10 points for a better stat... even better use the samurai bros long katana (washing pole in dark souls) that If memory serves has better bleed and range so uchigatana can go off hand while washing pole go's main hand because they are both katana you can power stance and washing pole having a better bleed will easily hit 100 at 60 arcane, while uchigatana will be 97. It's no rivers of blood but its will bleed everything this far.

Explored on my own and just gonna skim to see if I missed anything. Tip for exploring: Rainbow Stones when in the pipes. There's a loop in one set of pipes. During your pipe run, when looking for loot and find a dead end, I backtrack to the nearest junction and place a rainbow stone on the right edge of the side of the pipe to note that no use going back through (cause all pipes look alike). Eventually at a 3-4 way junction most of the pipes will be marked as explored (dead end). I drop rainbow stones in the center to denote it continues to another area. There are two separate subzones of pipes (exploring both running on top of pipes and inside pipes), things get more accessible when you get to the 2nd set and kick down the ladder where the mid-altitude horizontal pipe has a short vertical opening. With 2 ladders you can traverse both sets of pipe subzones easily. There's also a lot of doors and grates you'll unlock so don't miss the levers.

I went through this part yesterday, so many huge guys they were a pain, but I was able to get through ok with my bloodfang and shield. I think I went through every single sewer tunnel, so many blue and red ball shinies, but so much loot at the dead ends too. I did not reach the lobsters though so I'm watching to see if I missed anything valuable there to just snatch them. Getting to the Dung guy ... that was the biggest jump scare of my life ... I actually freaked out.

Lobster area - once you jump down, run past the 2nd lobster towards the south east. You will see a lantern on the ground on the right hand side (sort of looks like a trash fire) and enter the building. The grace will be on the right side. Once you secure the grace, you can fight the lobsters through the entry way instead of out in the open.

Fun fact: Margits Shackle will automatically drop those flame thrower towers in catacombs. I haven't tried it with Mohgs Shackle, but it may work too. Typically you can run to them easy & hit them to drop them, but if there are enemy's around it can be a huge help.

If you're having trouble with the giant lobsters, just lead them (one at a time of course) to the fallen section of pipe right there and they with get stuck at one end and you can just sit at the other end and attack them when you get an opening, they'll stay there for the most part but they might move a couple times, as for dmg; rot or sleep works great.

I know this is super late but for anyone also wanting to try out morgotts sword put your points into arcane instead of strength! I’m lvl 120 in my first play through and dumped all my points into dex/arcane and I’m in love with this thing!

Golden vow aow on a dagger and than the crab from the merchant in liurnia he moves to Altus later on are the two I usually use and they work with any build no stats required

The lobsters can be put to sleep, I finally found a use for sleep pots! Dark Moon Great Sword at about 50 INT made short work of all the Omen-type enemies. Two weapon art energy beams would stun them, then a critical finished them off. This area wasn't as bad as I was expecting.

Hot tip!! You can use moghs/margits shackle before you even step foot towards a flame throwing pillar and it'll immediate disengage it or re-engage it.

Note: If you don't care about the Mending Rune of Fell Curse ending you can kill him immediately upon encountering him in the Sewer Gaol. He will still drop the Sword of Milos and his armor set (As of patch 1.03) and Big Boggart will get to live

Better to give him Seluvis’s potion, wait a sec, and then kill him. Receive the gear and buy his summon from Seluvis. (You have to buy a couple of things, a summon, and do a few SoG resetting to be able to buy it.) Dung is an S-tier summon.

Jump attacking those gross Omen cursed things in the Shunning Grounds usually staggers them, their poise doesn't compensate for headshots.

The Lightening Spear (found on the giant spear in Leyndal that you climb up) thrown at the lobsters works very well. Lvl's up a little 5 or 6 throws will kill without having to get close due to its huge range. May even be possible to throw from the pipes.

If you're a caster, play ring a round the rosie with the lobsters by using the tunnel sections. Bait them to go to one end then hit them through the open sections of the tunnels. Just have to listen carefully to figure which side they are heading towards. Also helps to not hug the tunnel too closely as they can strike through it with their claw attacks. You can also kill the first lobster by just dropping onto the tubes closest to its patrol section - you're basically dropping down onto the lower tubes from where the platform closest to the ladder that you take to enter the lobster area of the sewer.

My setup for this area, as a mage using the moonlight greatsword (fully upgraded and using Godfrey Icon and Ritual Sword Talisman 80 intel [85 with rune]), made this place a walk in the park. The swords weapon art with two charged heavies that fires at range stuns them for the critical, or you can just stay at range and wipe them out just as easy. PvE wise, I can't even remember the last time I died. However, this guide has been excellent and given me sight beyond sight, so obviously that grants a huge advantage compared to a blind playthrough. But damn, magic is strong in this game. And I welcome it.

7:05 Well, you actually do want to fight the two lobsters at the same time. Group them together at the broken sewer pipe, and they will damage each other with their attacks. If lucky, you can get one killed, and the other one-hit away

@ 28:45, the crab cowboy mentioned actually unintentionally killed Dung Eater for me. The crab does spit death clouds, making it extremely dangerous. But I happened to get lucky and Dung Eater got hit by a death cloud I dodged away from.

I agroed the crab, too. However, I just baited Dung Eater and ran around making him get in front of the crab. Then crab go smash right on top of him until he was dead. Only took two hits to finish off the crab, too since Dung Eater would use his roar and dmg crab.

Quick tip, Mohg or Margit shackle can trigger traps, reveal hidden doors and disable the flame thingys just use it near or at the beginning of any dungeon lifesaver

Another tip add barricade shield to your quality heater shield, (if you followed the walkthrough you should own one) and use it for the chunky guys in sewers you’ll eat up half they’re attacks and be able to get a few hits in and even stagger

Lobsters and giant octopuses (and I think giant crabs too?) are SUPER vulnerable to sleep. Craft a few pots or arrows, and all of a sudden the lower part of this area becomes a cakewalk. You don't even have to kill them, just let them enjoy their sleepytime while you go about your business.

@@CrimsonCQB I only started experimenting with sleep in NG+! Works wonders on the Godskin dudes too, need to keep trying it on different enemies to see which ones are vulnerable (it doesn't work well on the big Omen dudes, unfortunately. They shake it off almost immediately). Apparently Runebears are weak to it too, but I haven't tested it personally.

@@laura_hunt It's a pretty interesting new status ailment, the only exp I have with sleep ailment is MHW and I was reading the description of the sleep pots and it says " lull the target into a slumber like state even if they don't fall asleep" (something along those lines) so I was just like mehhh sounds trash... but now I need to try it out lol

Dung eater doesn't invade till you've spoken to blackguard, so kill the giant grab in the middle of the lake before speaking to him about the dung eater. You should find him more easy to deal with without having to stick to the sides. You also get blackguard's Bell bearing so don't worry about crab you can buy as much as you want from the twin maideds when you give them his bell!

So I'm on my third playthrough (new game), this time around on PC and followings CBs walkthrough. I never found this dungeon within the sewers 😮 though I think I did come across them lobsters. Man, the scale of this gane never ceases to amaze me

Hot tip: for the lobsters, try and stick to the belly area. I found out you can stagger them with a few charged heavy’s and the critical point is on the belly as well. If they jump to slam, just roll rinse and repeat

There is a safer option dropping to the lobsters that only agro one and you don't need cattail it involves the pipes above the first lobster facing north east from where cowboy dropped and you can plunge attack first lobster for bonus damage

Poor dung eater. I did the fight before letting the video play out and just as he was getting some licks in, the giant crab erupted from the lake and smashed him dead. Fitting end, killed by a bottom feeder

Another tip. You can hide in the tube thing after aggroing both lobsters and they will eventually kill each other trying to get to you. You’ll need a shield for that though since they clip through.

When you get to the lobster area, run and grab the grace then aggro the lobsters and make them follow you to the entrance where the grace is. They can't get through the door and you can cheese them 🤣

Anyone who’s struggling with the crayfish you can ranged battle them from the middle platform where the imp was hiding behind boxes. Just have to be careful with it. You can get to a spot where they can’t hit you with snipe spit but you can still hit them with arrows. Use rotbone arrows or frenzied burst. It takes a few minutes but it is doable.

For the omens use an upgraded tower shield and go for backstabs, Dark Souls 1 style. Lobsters can indeed be shot from the pipes with a bow, spells or whatever long ranged thing you have.

For the imp and lobster section I utilized a bow to hit the imps (some would fall to their death) and just lure them in to mow them down. For the closest lobster I utilized poison arrows, rot pots, and freezing pots from above. For the second lobster I dropped down and used a sleep pot then buffed up and rekt it.

I find Bloodhoung's Fang and Morgott's Sword together work well against Omens. I usually rush to them to get the first strong strike. They're too slow to respond. You may even make following strike but that's more risky. Curved swords hit hard especially with frost affinity.

Margits Shackle does a whole lot more than just hold him down it will automatically open all hidden walls and makes the heros grave, where you gotta destroy 3 chariots significantly easier

For those struggling with the giant crabs, AFTER running to the gace! I used the crepus vail talisman to get as close as fast as i could amd used frost dragons breath and spamed gaint hunt! First try with this after dying 30 times trying other ways!

I am a chicken. I fight everything from as much distance as possible. My husband is usually a strength-based, smack-em-right-in-the-face style fighter. Elden Ring has turned him into a total chicken just like me. He's totally worshipping his bows, his rotten breath, and even some other magics for certain things. Anyway. No way do I want to fight those lobsters up close. (Or the Omens, either, for that matter.) You absolutely CAN kill the lobsters from on top of the pipes, and the lobsters CANNOT hit you with their water spray, as long as you simply don't lean over the edge into the spray. I used Rain of Arrows and Serpent Arrows (poison). You don't have to lean over the edge to aim, with Rain of Arrows, which means you're not in range for being hit by the lobsters. They will spray toward you, but the pipes will completely shield you. I have 2 dead lobsters and a totally clear area below to go into now before I ever go down at all. Huzzah.

Tip: You don’t need the fall talisman you can just jump down the first platform onto a pipe right above the lobster. Also, using greatshield soldiers make the boss fight trivial.

cowboy threw a crystal dart at a goblin and he went blue and sparkly and cowboy said, "what did I do to him?" Crystal darts confuse stone enemies. It will cause them to fight not just you, but anything that's around. So on the bridge to limgrave Devine tower, just throw a few crystal darts at the golem and hide and watch them battle each other.

I also just throw Margetts shackle on that way when I enter a room I can slam it into the ground and ignore all messages because if there's any hidden walls they will open up. I don't understand in the pleasure of writing messages on walls. but a lot of people don't know that at least Margetts shackles will open Hidden walls and will bring down them fire pillars from father away than a bow and arrow can. you also get it in Lim grave before he goes to Leonia

It's a risky move, but aggroing the crab during the dung eater fight can be helpful if you're having trouble with dung. I did it by accident but every time the crab swung at me it took off huge chunks of his health. Like I say it's a bit risky to recommend as a strategy, but it's worth considering.

On the lobsters there is a platform that’s supported by wooden poles. These poles are great to keep between you and the lobsters. It hinders there water stream and their charge attacks.

I found a way to kill the lobsters in an easier way. I also found a +8 Ruin Greatsword easily allows you to dispose of the Omens. Cowboy great job! You can kill the lobster from above at the T in the pipe with spells below the first platform as you go thru the first doorway after the drop down the first ladder. Lobsters hate Hor frost Stomp !

MAJOR TIP: I don’t know if it was a bug or something, but the giant crab actually one-shot Dung Eater for me. I thought it wasn’t a “regular” giant crab, but it turns to be just as normal and died by couple of hits with great glinstone shard.
