Bayle went for Placi's heads, but Placi was smarter and went for Bayle's wings and legs to try and immobilise him. However Bayle somehow managed to escape when he realised he wouldn't be killing Placi. Given that he seems to be able to grow magic wings out of sheer spite he probably did so to escape. After that he cannibalised other dragons (including his own children and descendants) to recover much of his former strength while Placi hid away after his god fled.

@@andreybelyshev5093 all of the lesser dragons are drakes. Here's how you can tell, it's basically fantasy creature info: Drakes wings are their arms like bats. Dragon's have normal arms AND separate wings. Plac and his ancient DRAGONS have arms and wings, Bayle and his lesser dragons(drakes) have wing-arms. Though Bale mostly just has nubs with wing tatters on them and grows magical wings out of pure spite and malice. Also like, literally just look at them and compare to their anatomy and aesthetics to the ancient dragons and the drakes and it's pretty blatant. Also the lore just tells you.

@gummyboots that's not really true, a drake is a loose term but it refers to a dragon like creature with 4 limbs and no wings (like a big lizard). In the game there are 2 lesser dragons that are distinctively labeled as drakes, these "drakes" are of bayles brood and you can tell by the orange ligghtning/fire they have. One is also shown in a death match with another lesser dragon so if they were all from bayle I don't think they would be depicted killing eachother. And on an unrelated note the lesser dragons are more like wyverns, as in 2 legs 2 wings, modern fantasy doesn't really care about which is which however

But they did it so often that they eventually transformed into the magma wyrms we face. I swear Bayle is so damn cinematic with these fights. Every move he's making doesn't read like an AI going through routine moves, only switching up as a reaction to being damaged. It always reads like he's actually fighting. Using moves to not just deal damage but close distance, catch smaller enemies trying to hide under his chest, and even using his tail swipe to quickly turn like in Astel's fight. He even sometimes seems to in anger to being damaged or being unable to hit his target. He barely ever misses, and in fact doesn't even seem to use moves that would be likely to miss against his specific opponent relative to their size and mobility. The only exceptions look so close to the wire that it never feels like an AI using a move dumbly. Then there's always the moments where a boss is using some kind of BS move or perk, and when he does his next attack it just *feels* like he's roaring at the top of his lungs "ENOUGH!!!". With the ancient dragon that kept stun locking him and Mohg, where he sprouts his wings and takes to the sky, specifically using moves with his wings as they all have the AOE and mobility to completely trounce them even with their own flight capabilities. Then Malenia, where she broke his guard twice and nearly regained all of her health, where he appropriately yelled in rage and struck her down with his own BS move. Now *that* felt like some proper gamer rage. But the fight between him and Rykard in the second phase? Pure. kaiju. Mayhem.

I think the design is dope. I especially like the idea that his left foot is cut off as hugging the left back leg was a common strategy for a lot of dragon fights innsouls games. I love the exposed bone being used as a sword that he charges with his red fire/lightning magic. The phases are badass too
