I LOVE dumpster diving! My favorite is to find a University and dumpster dive the week after spring quarter ends. you wouldnt believe the great stuff the students are willing to leave behind !
@Brifromscratch8 жыл бұрын
I have totally done that! A few years ago we lived near a small private college. They actually had the students put all of the stuff they were going to throw away in the gym. They then opened the gym to the public to come and get whatever they wanted. It was pretty cool and actually pretty gross too.

Hello. I watch your vlog everyday when I get home from work. Watching you and the Rhodes family (and a few more) are my favorite vlogs and I look forward to them everyday. I watched the Rhodes vlog first so I know you are headed the their homestead to make elderberry gummies. Hope you have fun!!

Thank you for the link to the gelatin that was used. Not only might that help for my fibromyalgia, but there was also another product they sell too. Both items are great for joint care. Something that Fibromyalgia sufferers seriously must consider. Thank you Bri & Bekka!

I just wanted to add, in reference to dumpster diving, sometimes we have to do things that might seem insane to some, in order to bring back a little sanity to the world.

I love this comment. Thank you for making this point. It is a shame that anyone would look upon frugality, and minimalism as poverty. I personally feel empowered that I am able to make the most out of a little.

There are some food stores that do not put 'good' food in the dumpster... but leave it in grocery carts near it. They transfer it at the end of shift.

I made the elderberry syrup the other day and my Husband has had a difficult time pouring it onto a spoon and getting it to his mouth as he is blind in one eye so this idea for gummy elderberries works great for us! Now I just need some molds! LOL!

I love your channel! I would try out the gummies but I have a mammalian allergy where I can't have anything from a mammal but I'm sure they taste really good!

I love the fact that you allow your children to go barefoot, the baby to crawl on the ground, and the general way they are allowed to entertain themselves. The majority of parents today raise their children in front of the TV or in the car as the moms run around town. Additionally, their homes are full of plastic toys so big there is no room for guests. All of my grandchildren were raised this way and not one is able to entertain themselves.

You should dumpster dive behind tool stores like Home Depot, and Lowes as well. One of my neighbors found an 100 ft drain auger and several packs of screw drivers.

Boiling for berries (getting out stains). Was always taught that’s how to get berry stains out. 😇 And we use the same stuff for making gummies. You can also add some vit. C powder to help boost preventative. Sometimes we add magnesium, but it doesn’t taste as good.

I love this. We do orange juice or lemon and honey with asorbic acid, my kiddos love them! I stopped using our molds due to the gummies adhering. How do you get them to release so cleanly?
@Brifromscratch8 жыл бұрын
Coconut oil, but we did some without and they came right out. So maybe it is the molds we used? I put a link to the molds we used in the description. Or maybe your molds are well loved. Either way try coconut oil.

Gelatin and other surfactants are the main reason for many diseases in the gut/colon. This compound is used as a additive in almost everything nowadays, this may explain the raise in colitis... Greetings from a pharmacist.

It's a shame that you have to defend your choices in regards to minimizing waste. When it comes down to it humans were actually scavengers through out history. It's only recently that we would ever think about tossing food that was still edible. You think in the depression people said oh it went one day past the expiration date toss it and if anyone try's to eat it shame them. Even though the date is just contrived by a computer and actually doesn't mean the food is bad.

re dumpster diving... I LOVE to dumpster dive. I am not impoverished although I am not wealthy. I just hate to see the perfectly good food go to waste in a landfill when I or someone I know can use it. I share the foods with neighbors, etc. I get whole hams, chickens, steaks, and eggs, yogurt, cheese, etc. from dumpster diving. The only thing wrong with the food is that the food has reached their "sell by" date. The insurance companies insist that the foods be tossed on the sell by dates to avoid any possibility of suites. How sad ! I, however, have stocked my freezer with all kinds of meats and I also have canned lots. I have to say BULLY for you for having the guts to bring this subject up in a public forum ! Frankly, I think more should be done to FORCE the large supermarkets to donate the foods to food banks, etc. and to make it illegal to waste perfectly good food! Thanks for sharing !
