A world first. New footage from Mars rendered in stunning 4K resolution. We also talk about the cameras on board the Martian rovers and how we made the video.
The cameras on board the rovers were the height of technology when the respective missions launched.
A question often asked is:
‘Why don’t we actually have live video from Mars?’
Although the cameras are high quality, the rate at which the rovers can send data back to earth is the biggest challenge. Curiosity can only send data directly back to earth at 32 kilo-bits per second.
Instead, when the rover can connect to the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter, we get more favourable speeds of 2 Megabytes per second.
However, this link is only available for about 8 minutes each Sol, or Martian day.
As you would expect, sending HD video at these speeds would take a long long time. As nothing really moves on Mars, it makes more sense to take and send back images.

Not Renaissance. Misread. Correction: 8 Megabits per second, not Megabytes. P.S: Sorry about the font change halfway through. After almost a week of failed renders, my rendering software decided to forget a font. This video was almost not made due to my struggling PC.

It is, and always will be, completely incomprehensible to our mere Human-minds. So go stick your face in a bible all you want, but just know, we are most likely alone in this solar system, let alone our entire damn universe. And even if there are other Life forms out there, we will most likely never find them, Because the universe is fuckin' massive. Earth is the only livable planet we have (That we know of). As a 70-year-old geezer, I still remember the night when I was six when Mars was at opposition and my father pointed out the bright orange star in the sky and I first thought to myself, "I am actually looking at Mars!" I remember the Russian Venera photos and the Viking photos and the wonder of thinking, "I am actually looking at the SURFACE of Venus! I am actually looking at the SURFACE of Mars!" Thanks to the Huygens probe, I can even say that about the methane lakes and rivers of Titan, beneath that orange shroud that's always hidden the surface of Saturn's largest and most interesting moon. I'm not sure that people born more recently and who have grown up with stuff like that can even imagine the sense of wonder I felt. But this takes it to a whole new level. Thank you!

Astounding! How lucky I am. Thousands upon thousands of people throughout human history could only imagine what Mars looked like and I just got to see a clear detailed view of it. If they ask what it was like I would say barren, forbidding, dry, frozen desert. Ominous sand dunes, craggy rock formations but beautiful in its austerity. Funny; it reminds me of a line from the movie "Aliens" which goes "...whatever happened here - I think we missed it".

Yah this video proves that we are spinning on a ball flying half a million miles an hour while submerged in a vacuum because they showed a picture of terrain that they told you is mars. And for sure this is the surface of mars for sure because, well, they said it was mars. And seeing they said so it must be fact. Yep, these pictures of some terrain that we are told is for sure the surface of mars is proof that earth is spinning and ball shaped. I mean it would be impossible to take pictures of earth terrain, put it in photoshop and make it appear to be from another planet. Your right these pictures PROVE earth is a spinning ball with the atmosphere attached to the OUTSIDE of a ball while flying more than half a million miles an hour through an endless infinite vacuum. Every other instance you put air directly next to a vacuum, the air is sucked away. But not spinning ball earth. No no. For spinning ball earth, the physics changes for some reason, now all earths atmosphere can stick to the OUTSIDE of a ball while totally submerged in an endless inifinte vacuum. A vacuum thousands upon thousands of times more powerfull than anything we can create on earth. Yep these pictures (wich are for sure impossible to fake with photoshop or any mainstream movie technology) prove earth is spinning and ball shape.

It is just unreal being on the surface of Mars like this...the perception of detail is stunning. I am an older generation and can remember the first pictures of Mars many years ago as an orange marble in space and now we are actually "walking"the surface...great job and effort!
