I didn’t think the twists were coming! I think I had a hint of her having a sister but her mum was a big shock to me! I loved the character of Eleanor and how unique she was and how more and more about her unraveled throughout the story. Really really enjoyed it!

I found it hard to get into the book but once I did I really enjoyed it. I was not expecting the twist in the end.

I found quite a few similarities with Eleanor too, especially the lonely and awkward ones

The twist about her Mummy's situation is just the beginning. Note her plan for the office Christmas party-- at a local safari park. Then recall her wish to feed the dead to large carnivores as a special treat. I don't envy her colleagues outcome for the New Year.

I loved this book. I was surprised about her mum, but could totally understand why Eleanor had this strange 'relationship' with her mum. I loved how the humor was woven throughout the story. Many times I found myself almost in tears for the drama she went through and then burst out laughing at the way she thought. An excellent read.

I loved the book. I smiled, cried and emphatized with her. Superb character development and I guessed already that her mother died and she is just imagining her but shocked with the sister twist. Raymond character was so good and loved loved LOVED that he was the first person who was with her and didn't care about her weird behaviour.

Absolutely loved this book. The loneliness and awkwardness pull you in to Eleanor's world where you find empathy and humour in equal measure. A celebration of the different and the weird and how we judge or don't judge others by our own standards. Thanks for your review and the wonderful comments and insights.

I absolutely loved this, because I could relate to Eleanor so much being always the oddball wherever I go. The twists with the mom and sister I could see coming, but for me it didn’t dampen the experience because for me it wasn’t about knowing it myself, but holding Eleanor’s hand as she learns and accepts it and moves on. Also, the writing is scrumptious indeed. Great Review! :)

I guessed that her mum was dead during that scene right at the beginning where the social worker comes but it took me longer to guess the sister part and it didn't ruin it for me either

Yes!! U are the first person iv heard mention the twist. I guessed about her sister but not her mum, I did annoy me that she was dead. I gave it 4 stars on Goodreads for this reason.

In didnt guess the twist about her mother at all as she keeps having phone conversations with her till virtually the end of the book I'm not sure the revelation about her sister is a twist as she wasnt mentioned till quite late on in the book A book that it reminded me of was one called The Panopticon by Jenni Fagan who is also a Scottish author

I don’t think the sister is specifically mentioned. But it is hinted at a hell of a lot from the start. Same with the dead mother in my opinion. There are loads of clues which suggest she is dead.

Bad: You need to increase your word power if you are to be a sucessful critic. Good:Thankyou for your enthusiasm and upbeat presentation . Some people respond to style over substance.
