Just wanted to say how much I appreciate you watching this classic video and making it one of our top classic movie videos we have posted on this channel. Friends a lot (and I mean A LOT!) has happened since we posted this. As some of you may know, The Vinyl Restoration Channel has now morphed into a professional audio post-production studio, LegacyVMP Studio. And there is so much work to do concerning our beloved and treasured legacy audio recordings. Let me explain. Folks, are you aware that there exist many, many legacy artists that unfortunately, the digital age of music has NOT been so kind? For example, one of them is Pop/Country artist, B. J. Thomas. So my studio, LegacyVMP Studio, is on a mission to try and help do our part to change this kind of business climate within the legacy audio industry that we feel is long overdue. I think the time is right for studios like mine (and others!) to take what technology now affords us and turn it into something that can be very positive for the industry as a whole. Will you help us do that? Here are some of our more recent restorations to help illustrate what I am talking about. I want to stress with these: 1.) the power of recent advances in audio restoration technology in particular to allow studios like mine to do what we do! 2.) I want you to hear just how far our sound has come (maturity-wise) since we began this channel in the fall of 2014. First, here is one from Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66 that you might recognize 🙂:kzbin.info/www/bejne/jmjSnpSIacyGlaM. In addition, here is one or two (or three or four 🙂) from B. J. Thomas: (kzbin.info/www/bejne/iH3NpH57eLVmos0, kzbin.info/www/bejne/a6qvmKV7bJJ1Y5I, kzbin.info/www/bejne/eHesaax4mL1jp6c, and kzbin.info/www/bejne/d3OzgK2fn9qUo5Y). Thanks for listening! We are now a professional studio, LegacyVMP Studio ( facebook.com/legacyvmpstudio) and we need your help spreading the word about what we do! Please visit our Business page and "Like/Follow Us". Thanks so much again and stay safe.

The jackpot. They found someone who was the greatest tap dancer and who had beauty. Clark Gable was protective of her at MGM. One of the few women he did not have designs on. It was her talent that he believed made her worthy of someone that would love and cherish her alone.

Okay, in terms of not professionally, who was the better dancer of the 2? Judy Garland or Debbie Reynolds?
@marktombazian64902 жыл бұрын
@@omarcogle1965 hmmm...different times and personalities...Judy was the better entertainer by far. So her dancing was learned very young. Given different movies that would have showcased her dancing she'd have been at the top. She also was very petite. And body type plays a part. Judy looked better. All around a better dancer. A clown. Debbie was chunky. And really only danced because of the times. She didn't Excell at dance. Or singing. Judy was a bona-fide Star. Tormented and crazy and dangerous. Sexual. Debbie was a supporting actress. There was no angst in her. No threat no sexual allure. That comes out in all aspects of performance.
@omarcogle19652 жыл бұрын
@@marktombazian6490 Okay, that's a fair take on the two, and I agree that Judy was a better entertainer, Debbie was a better dancer than her. She may have some weight on her, but the fact that she can keep up with greats like Gene Kelly and Donald O'Connor says a lot, and you're right she's only been a few dance projects but still. Another question, between Gene Kelly, Fred Atsaire and Donald O'Connor, who was the better dancer?
@marktombazian64902 жыл бұрын
@@omarcogle1965 different styles and personalities. O'Connor was a good hoofer but simply performed like any good journeyman...jack-of-all-trades. Astaire and Kelly were driven hard to Excell. Both very competitive. Kelly was very athletic. Astaire wasn't. Different body types too. Look at the big dance number in the The Pirate. Kelly & Garland. That is probably the most demanding dance a man ever pulled off. Long takes. Incredibly long and demanding. American in Paris too. Astaire never had anything like that. But Astaire had a style unmatched. Kelly could not match the smooth, suave & sophisticated style of Astaire. And Astaire couldn't match Kelly's athleticism. Look at the only number they did together...Astaire was smooth and Kelly athletic. Kelly did ballet & gymnastics. Fred glided and swayed. Both sharp tappers. So better? Kelly. More sophisticated? Astaire. Women would dance with Astaire and go to bed with Kelly. That's the bottom line. The women who got me very young were Eleanor Powell, Cyd Charice, Judy Garland. The tap dance par excellence, the sultry sensual ballet dancer and the clown. Ginger was a trooper. Great compliment to her partner. Powell was better than Astaire and easily matched Kelly. Cyd smoked hot.. Judy was pure fun.
@omarcogle19652 жыл бұрын
@@marktombazian6490 When I see Gene Kelly and Fred Astaire, I call them the Elite, because of their styles and when I look at Donald O'Connor, I call him the Wild Card, because he can match with the best of them.

This scene is accidentally prophetic. Virginia Bruce had broken through in 1935 playing a showgirl in 'The Great Ziegfeld'. In the same year Eleanor had stolen the show in 'Broadway Melody of 1936'. Here she is cast as the understudy of Bruce, an actress-singer. But the script has Ellie replacing Bruce in a big Broadway musical and collaring Jimmy Stewart from her too. Hence the angry interruption. In reality Ellie would be enthroned as MGM's #1 in musicals, while Virginia's star soon dimmed. Did she sense this when she stormed on to the stage?
@esmeephillips58882 жыл бұрын
An example of how music cues were now being used to carry the story forward. 'Love Me, Love My Pekinese' had been Miss Lucy James's big comedy number during her visit to the sub, so it is extra annoying to find her mousy little understudy improvising to it at the producer's command.

Eleanor Powell was clearly an amazing talent, but she did suffer from some fairly catastrophic wardrobe choices.

...Would have been interesting to see what the other actress had to say about Eleanor's dancing to "her" music. But who made the costume for that number? Those pants looked like a silk knit, and they wouldn't have looked good on ANYONE, although they probably looked better on Eleanor Powell than they would on most people.
