My Electra-branded tumble dryer, rear vented, on the saturday wash. Electra was a brand of the retail division of the regional electricity boards in the uk, which were privatised in the late 1990's to become 'Powerhouse' stores. Electra appliances were made by various manufacturers, mine is made by General Domestic Appliances Ltd, a company formed when GEC took over Creda from the T.I. Group and merged them into their Hotpoint division, consolidating on internal design and engineering and partnering with the US-company General Electric. GDA were themselves taken over by Antonio Merloni of Italy who made Ariston and Indesit appliances. Merloni went bankrupt and from the ashes arose a new company called Indesit. That company was then bought by US-company Whirlpool who owns them today.
