When you have the anode and cathode carbon, anodes will be more hot and quickly burned. This is a simple demonstration of power electric discharge in a large stream. The actual industrial melting of the steel is in the closed container and much much more current and voltage. (>1000A,> 20 000V)

yes, with ballast it is possible. And rectifier is not necessary.

Yes, drop voltage is pretty much.

Welding transformer is specific type of transformer, it can work well in short circuit. Impossible on a normal type transformer.

Thanks a lot for your help sir i'll try to melt steel with the same current , can you tell me why low voltage is better ?

No problem :). Is not better, but i don't have better power supply. This is welding transformer (3kW). High voltage is better but, you must have good current. ( Attention: This is not good method for melting steel. A lot of percent of the steel will be oxidized. Better to melt in the atmosphere. If you make this only for fun, it does not matter.)

maybe 15-25V. I did not use a voltmeter.

This is not a welder, but the test arc melting steel.

Ok , I'll do my experiment saturday , i have 6 transformers ( 220/110 volts each one have 1500 watts ) and i'll try without a bridge rectifierif you think its not necessary , i hope to cut a hole in a steel plate with this method ..

My 1500 watts transformer work very well in short circuit if the voltage is around 40 volts with a ballast ( i used 3 transformers 220/110 volts connected between each others .. ), you will have around 25 amps ( 25 x 40 = 1000 watts ) then why i can't connect my transformer in parallel with another 25 amps 40 volts transformer ( the same way described before ) with the help of two bridge rectifiers ???? do u think i'll have 50 amps like this ??

But, I not have a protective atmosphere

Ok , i don't have a welding transformer but i'm thinking about using two or three transformers ( 1500 watts ) in parallel with the help of two or three bridge rectifiers GBPC5010 , and a 6 mm2 cable , do u have any suggestion ?
