I painted the inside of my tank with POR 15. Used a brush and the finish was high gloss. I read they use it for submerged surfaces so I gave it a try. I’ve drained the pan twice to clean it and see how the POR held up. Still shines and is rock hard. I’ve got a 2x4 pan and use less than a 1/2 pint. Awesome stuff. No signs of damage from the plasma cutter head.

I use small foam rollers to paint things like that, and use a foam brush to get into tight spaces where the roller won't fit. Faster and gives a better finish.
@paintdog14 жыл бұрын
Foam rollers are the best. If you add a small nail (drive it in the closed end of the roller) you can pull it out halfway when you are finished and lightly drag the roller across the paint. It will stop the roller from turning. It makes a glass finish with no air bubbles!

If you're worried about corrosion in the pan, would a sacrificial zinc anode be an option? Although either way, if you can't paint it, some kind of pickling/passivation treatment might still be an option, or you could add a corrosion inhibitor to the water itself.

It is a good idea to paint the pan interior. The cutting current could establish electrolysis and introduce rust and erossion. Current should flow trough metal only (sacrificial plates on which the cuted material rests) and not trough water. Great job!!!

Another great video! First: providing you have an earth/ground point from the slats to the tub you will be able to paint the inside of the tub to stop it rusting so leaving the uprights that hold them unpainted should be enough as they are welded into the tub and wouldn't be that hard to replace. Second: have you changed the white balance setting on your camera? the red seems less radioactive than normal.

You could paint inside the water table but probably best not to, if you do paint it make sure not to paint the slots for the bars so that the electricity can still get through.
@DonnDIY4 жыл бұрын
Thanks, that's a great advice!
@LesNewell4 жыл бұрын
A lot of electrical enclosures are supplied with a textured finish as it hides imperfections and scratches. It's pretty easy to do this yourself. Put on a couple of coats as normal and let it tack off. Now spray a few light coats with the paint needle opened to the maximum and low air pressure. You want to be spraying small blobs rather than a fine mist. Keep the coats light and leave enough time between coats for the paint to dry a bit. With a bit of practice you can get a really professional looking result.

I'm 3 years late but if you want to be able to paint the inside of the tray to protect it from rust but still need it to conduct, weld on a bolt, screw several nuts on it (to protect the threads), paint the inside then unscrew the top nut, and install a bare copper fly-lead onto the bolt...the fly-lead gives you a path to the ground bolt on the bottom of the tray while the nuts should help keep the bolt from rusting out... And if the bolt does rust out, you can always cut it off, weld on a replacement and touch up the paint on the tray where you scuffed it off with the cutter...
@Farm_fab3 жыл бұрын
Epoxy paint for the inside might have been a good option on the inside of your pan. The welding contractor where I work replaced the top end of stainless steel disconnect boxes removed from discontinued equipment, which is about 1/3 the cost of new ones.

With an appropriate paint, you can paint the inside of the pan; and the result will look better; however as mentioned below; an anti-rust additive will allow you to leave it unpainted. Or you could do both.

I looked at the space and cost of a fully equipped PC. monitor, keyboard and mouse and opted for an offline controller instead with a MPG pendant. PC is in the air conditioned office for design. An offline controller can replace the CNC PC and breakout board. A 4 axis controller such as the DDCSV2.1 is about the cost of just Mach 3 license. I take the G-Code files on a thumb drive, plug it in, use the pendant to home and probe, then clear the DRO, and start. An offline controller without pendant is a little over $160. With a pendant, it is a little over 200, but you probably want a MPG pendant anyway. Great build. Are you using Mach 3 or Mach 4 or some other CNC software? I've started playing with Linux CNC, but as a real time CNC, it does not work with USB serial breakout boards, so you need a real parallel printer port and breakout board. The parallel break out boards for 4 axis is very inexpensive, often under $10. The cable cost more than the breakout board.

Two suggestions, One: a drain in pan bottom to drain water for cleaning. Two: a cover over plasma machine so if a leak occurs ( which is likely) it could get into cutter and ruin it.
