Eskimo Callboy wasn't allowed to compete for the German entry in the ESC, but this whole debabcle HAD to be a success story for them. I never heard of them before and now they might be one of my favorite bands ever.

After the respective acts have been performed, each country votes for their favourites (except their own contribution) resulting in something like a highscore list. From what I've heared EC was not selected for qualifying because their music "is not suitable to be played on the radio" or something. They do have a video on the topic on their channel.

It was a success in a way but their rise started a bit earlier, with the Hype around "Hypa Hypa". Before that track, they likely enjoyed a steady fanbase, though rather small. I hadn't heard of them before (I know them through a friend whose hobby is reviewing metal music who discovered them through that song and immediately sent it to me to enjoy) as I've never heard someone talk about it and from other metal fans who organize shows, it is clear that the band wasn't as big before either. Now, with Hypa Hypa, they attracted a lot of fans to the point that when this track was released, they had to add a second show in my country because the first one sold out too quickly... Now, with their snub for ESC, they likely will have gotten even more wind in their wings and I can see them become one of the most popular modern metal acts of Europe, if they aren't already. Yes, sometimes all it takes is one good track or one big opportunity. There are a lot of bands who suddenly blow up, because one track went viral.
