Daily practice helps but 1 year is fine if you put enough attention into it and practice right. Some people can be quicker. If you're new you could look at the chords on a chord sheet and practice. It'll help you with learning you hand positions and getting some muscle memory and it will help with timing. Can add lead later if its overwhelming but playing chords on their own can still impress so many people. The video above is good for showing you the left hand timing. Many people initially struggle to play octaves. In this case, on the right hand, it's two of the same note in different keys. So just practice but by bit. One step at a time and it'll come incredibly faster, no matter how terrible it is.
