I get really disappointed Jeff taking all the credit about ELO . people fell in love with this music not only about he composing the music but the whole concept of it. thanks to all these guys who contributed on this band. I started hearing Elo because of Melvyn, and I do prefer this era because the chemical they had was unique. watching Richard and Melvyn at the piano keyboard was unique!

The ELO SpaceShip! My God, what a show! They came to Greensboro NC in 78. I couldn't believe I was going at the time because I couldn't afford it. I was only 15 and wasn't working. I remember being in my room for hours sulking because I couldn't go. Then my younger brother ran into our apartment and yelled, "I found a ticket!" I said, "What, you found a ticket?" "Where? "I asked. He said, "on the ground"! I kept thinking, he's BS ing me but not to worry, just get to the concert. I went by myself and had a blast. Many years later I asked him where did you get the ticket, cause you were only 10 years old? He said my sister and brother in law purchased it and told him not to tell me where it came from. ELO dropped it from the sky.

Love it love it love it! My favorite ELO ever. Wish I'd gotten a chance to see them in concert, but YT works, too. Whenever I hear it, I just gotta dance. Of course, if I danced now like I did wasassssy back then, I'd break a hip. 🙄 But, I can still cut a few moves, and ELO keeps me young. 😊 Thanx muchly for sharing, kind person who posted this little treasure! To ELO, thanx so very very much, gentle men, for the magic, music, and memories .

@@thewkovacs316 No backing tracks except for one song which echoed too much in the fiver glass spaceship stage. It was a tiny portion of Standin in the rain at the start. Everything else was live and outstanding. One of the best Tour ever!

This, to me, was The Electric Light Orchestra. This song really was what they were all about. Mixing Rock and Roll with classical overtones. This was all gone when Discovery was released, and Lynne stripped down the band. I thought they were great up to and through Out Of The Blue. After that, they were still a good band, but pretty much became trend followers.
@zbazza6978z6 жыл бұрын
Michael Kozischek I'll be the the opposition here, discovery was equally when of my favourite albums along with out of the blue and a new world record. Whilst you are right, songs like don't bring me down, last train to London and shine a little love (which by the way are some of my favourite songs of all time) are DEFINITELY aimed to be "radio" songs as they call them. They are still Jeff Lynne masterpieces (I am also 18 years old so this may be a poor opinion but never the less). I grew up in a time where no one knows about ELO but all of his songs are classics in my book

This is the tour where they were inside of a spaceship that opened up with them playing inside. With the lights, lasers and smoke, it appeared as a true spaceship. Greatest stage concept at that time. Bands in the 70's just played on a open stage. One of their best tours before the heavy pop music they did in the early 80's. Jeff Lynne rocks!

@dglcomputers14982 жыл бұрын
Absolute pain in the ass the spaceship was though, ages to set up, needed loads of trucks to transport and was a nightmare to play under as it severely affected the monitor sound, add to that them having double the normal amount of lights and you also got tuning problems with the instruments. The monitor sound under the spaceship was so bad they had to have a backing track to play to as it's the only way they could stay in time.

Loved it! Best version I have heard. Raw, emotive, and joyous. Absolutely captures the feel of this era of music. Today’s production qualities are amazing. Sound systems lack nothing. But we had what we had in the formative years that became known as Classic Rock. This performance demonstrates that we miss the same feel and sound today. Thanks for making this available!!!

These guys are so great you can hear them play through a change that normally would have been a synthesizer break, with just a little confusion at 2:52-2:57, and then it's completely back on track. A lot of those synthesizer breaks from the studio version of this song got dropped for the live version so the solo sections could be extended. ELO is a great band. Any band that incorporated strings has to be.

E.L.O. is and always will be my favorite band of all time. The ELO before Jeff split the band was the best. Bev an underrated drummer, Kelly on base and Tandy on piano and synths, the cellists Melvin and hugh were brilliant live (not forgetting Mik and his blue violin). It would be brilliant if todays cellists and violinist in ELO was as active as they were. This energy is whats missing in ELO today.... not saying ELO today isnt good, just not as good as they were. Mind you any band thats been going this long wont be the same as they were years ago.

This was supposed to be a tongue-in -cheek character poking fun at Beethoven’s symphonic masterpiece, the 5th Symphony we all like as previous generations. They also did a similar thing to Edvard Grieg’s Peer Gynt- Hall of the Mountain King as it was being terrorized by a bunch of dancing trolls( I don’t mean You Tube ‘trolls’ of course).

Michael de Albuquerque released two excellent solo albums after he left ELO, they are now as rare as Rocking Horse poo. As far as I know they've never been released on cd, but I might be wrong. I had both of them in the mid 1970's, unfortunately they were accidentally thrown away when I moved house in 1979. Mike's albums were "We May Be Cattle But We've All Got Names", 1973, RCA Victor SF 8383, and "Stalking The Sleeper", 1976, Warner Bros K56276. Some of the tracks are on KZbin.
