About the body kit: The later cars had a differently cut front fender, that car does not. The kit was designed to be bolted to the original fenders. That means you can return the car to its original (better!) early car look. I have an '82 that I intend to have until I die, so electrification is very much on the menu when the technology is ready. I'm following with much interest.

I also own 3 Saabs myself - 9000 Aero MY97 (owned by me since 1998), Classic 900 Aero MY88 (owned by me since 2007), 9-3 Convertible (Lime Yellow) MY2005 and owned since 2021. I do love a Saab 🙂. Cheers

It's strange how Saab and 928 ownership go together. I've also owned two Saab 900 turbo cars - a tweaked 3 door hatch and a 5 door sedan.

Yes, we dare to be different. Saabs can easily polarise people. When I bought my first Classic 900 back in 186, I was asked how much extra I paid for the ugly option! LOL

I just sold my GT a couple of months ago. Sold the Ultima GTR so I could buy a house with a workshop.. house is still going through its been since Feb. Now I've completely lost my mojo with cars and stuff but seeing this get converted will surely bring me back. Own a Tesla model 3 and would love that performance in a 928, especially the earlier cars as they have simpler lines. Wishing you every success with the build and I will be following. Many thanks for a great channel :)

Very particular these hard fiber bumpers, remember that in the 90s these were offered from the US. The fit looks quite ok though. Very interesting your EV plans, good luck!!!😊😊😊😊

Fibreglass bumper bars Stu, hence solid, you might find the guards are still uncut and just bonded over, but yes very think paint . Congrats on the start of the project .
@inCARnationAustralia11 ай бұрын
Thanks Nick. Yes I couldn't figure out what would cause all those paint bubbles - on the fibreglass, steel and aluminium panels. I'm guessing just bad preparation, an amateur job, too much paint, combined with a seaside environment. Because it's on the fibreglass as well I'm guessing it's not panel corrosion. I can't see much evidence of severe corrosion anywhere on the car. Just surface and exposed steel/ally rust.

Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the German Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing petrol stations to only one state operated central gas station per city. From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any more....

As much as I support incentives to a greener world and reduction of fossil fuel dependence, that's very depressing news. A carrot works better than a stick.

Ya mad, ya bastard. 🤪 Or very rich.😀 $30k to electrify it? I hope you upload regular episodes. 👍 You must really love 928's. I would do it to a Citroen DS.
@inCARnationAustralia11 ай бұрын
Mad yes. Very rich definitely not. But it will cost a lot more than $30k, and no doubt take a long time. And yes, I will be recording every step of the way. Although I have to concede that this century cars are just much better cars, having owned 911, Cayman, Turbo, I still do return to the charm and character of the old 928. So I do really like the old 928. And yes I agree about the Citroen DS. It would be perfect as an EV as, if you've seen our review, to me the only disappointing aspect of that car is the underpowered asthmatic little four-cylinder motor. I looked into it but couldn't see an easy way to fit in the battery packs and get the weight balance right. Just too complicated. But the 928 will be perfect for weight distribution and balance.

Can I buy it when it’s finished?
@inCARnationAustralia11 ай бұрын
Thanks for the thought. But my intention is to keep it and put it on full rego as a daily driver. But we'll see. It's a test mule so no doubt fit and finish won't be perfect to start. Undoubtedly there will be inefficiencies, mistakes, compromises and hard lessons learned along the way, so maybe the second one will be better. Who knows - there might be a business in it. All I can say is that it would almost certainly be cheaper to go buy a really good, well loved petrol 928 - maybe even a GT or GTS, than to go down this path. But that's not the point is it. I want a car that I can drive anywhere, charge with solar when the sad day comes when a tank of fuel costs $500.

@@inCARnationAustralia Any internal combustion engine is preferrable to an electric motor in a Porsche that wasn't made with one already in it. Of course I'd prefer that it got its original type of engine, but that may be quite difficult to arrange.
