ex military here, I'd bump electric wizard in the engine room when we were underway cause it's the only thing that would actually drown out the diesel engines screaming at about 120 dB. I heard it OVER the diesels AND my double ear pro. Then I found Khemmis as I'm going into civillian aviation, they are perfect counterparts for those two jobs; Going down below into the heart of a 3,000 ton giant, into the sludge and intense heat of the engine room after a month long patrol? Return Trip. Taking flight in a 747 and making 350 tons of metal go airborne? Candlelight. Perfection.

Saw these guys in finland 2009 if I remember right, between some of the songs they had some technical difficulties because some of their amp-gear broke, fucking ”melted” and went all fucked up (and what I understood) it was because there was too much bass in their sound for their stuff to handle. Still one of the greatest fucking gigs that I’ve seen.

Only a chosen few can appreciate this music. It's a dying artform, void of ego and pretentiousness. I've been an avid listener since high school, 32 now. On occasion I'll drop acid and meditate for long periods of time. Wizard is my go to group to listen to, pre-trip. I like their old material better. We are so fortunate that Electric Wizard did not decide to add deep, growling vocals to their already insanely heavy instrumentals. The 'clean' vocals perfectly contrast and fit with their music simultaneously giving them an eerie and unique sound - the latter of which is extremely rare in metal.

From the bible of Metal, Book of Sabbath, Chapter 6, verse 66: "The Rifflord Iommi sayeth unto the, 'BEHOLD! For I give unto you a blackened riffcraft! A riff so dark, so heavy that the void itself shall headbang!' They came forth from the lowest of hells, deep within the void. Blackened riffmages known as the *Electric Wizard.* The hand of Satan toucheth upon their amp. Fuzz turn to flame. The leaf burned in mighty blaze as flames arose from wherever they played. Sun blackened into night in time of day. The Rifflord Matthew of Pike, Sön of Lemmy, cracked a brew, sat upon his throne, and laughed as Orange and Green tremble fourth with a terrible might. For on this day, the darkest of Iommi's riffs had arisen."

Fuck yeah man! This riff is the shit. This is one of their masterpiece songs. arguments can be made for others... or that this isn't one; all subjective lol. Just my opinion... But yeah, this album is so unique, flows super nicely, is just so opressive and heavy, has fantastic riffs and solos, and utilizes micro tonal and psychedelia influences super well. This album goes hard as fuck. Just so fuzzy and heavy. Every single song is fantastic. This song and Doom Mantia are the best songs on this album. For me, Saturnine is the best song they've ever recorded (off WitchCult). Saturnine, Rites of Drugula, Burnout, Funeralopolis, Doom Mantia, and Return Trip. Those are their masterpieces. But yeah. Fucking love EW. Hope this finds you well my dude.

The thing with this album that I can't determine if I prefer it or, is the fact that they never mute their guitars. Not for one fucking second It makes a head fucking sound, like it really possesses you, like its sole purpose is to force you as its obedient slave. The guitars refuse to give balance to the orchestra, it never stops, there's noise through and out. People who've seen them live know what I'm talking about. I thought I was gonna get permanent hearing damage. The they would never cut the guitars off, not between songs, the feedback would go and Jus would tune his guitar but there would never be one second of unnoisyness. But this is what drives it, this is what makes it so good, the sound is thick you don't notice it at first, you're just swept off your feet. Only problem is that there's no proper escalation for verse transitions, you know, when another riff is supposed to explode in like at "get off my case motherfucker" section. It's done with the second guitar player joining in and playing the riff with the other guitarist but it's impossible here 'cause both guitars are already ringing at full volume. Are they switching between effects mid-song, to make the guitar sound different when the riff escalates to make it sound like it escalates?
