This film is a severely underrated masterpiece, hits harder for those of us who have experienced night terrors and sleep paralysis ❤️
@dman14177 ай бұрын
That’s why this movie resonated with me so deeply!! I probably would have loved it regardless because of the slow pacing, beautiful visuals and filters, and the overall vibe of the movie. But once I realized it was about dreams and sleep paralysis I was completely hooked. I’ve been suffering from sleep paralysis since my early teens and have seen & felt the shadow beings so many times in those episodes. I’ve always been an avid dreamer too and have been blessed with very vivid, realistic dreams nightly for most of my life, it really feels like there’s a whole other world I live in when I go to sleep.

I couldn't agree more! Probably up there in my 5 favorite movies. The little "twist" at the end (where she gets the text telling her shes been in a coma for 20 years) was PERFECT. That piece of information made the eerie, dark, and sad filming of the movie make complete sense.

Definitely one of my favorite movies..I tend to put this song on repeat
@xavierrodrigues49583 жыл бұрын
Yeah this film was great! I agree about the sleep paralysis and night-terror part of the film. 40% of The World's Population has, or will, experience sleep paralysis at least once in their lifetime, and 2/3 of that population attribute a demonic or evil entity as the casue of the paralysis episode(s). The way the film set the course of events, it seemed they hit horror gold, that rare film that just delivers on all points- the soundtrack with its almost trance-like state of sound with deep synths and 80's esque beats, the romance that blossoms from her deep loneliness and his tension with the project. Moreover, the way the middle plot developed through the sleep study, that we learned that at some point every sleeping person somehow someway ends up seeing the same shadow-being. All of that was absolutely incredible, and then the ambiguous tone-shifting ending came, lol. Given the nature of the ending, coma, and that I myself have a very very close friend who he himself went through 1 year of being in a coma, it doesn't ruin the film for me though I can see a small number of viewers disliking the ending completely, as one can argue it negates the seriousness of the rest of the film, which in this case was so excellently built-up with a surprising level of intelligence. So none of it was real? Or did she go in a coma after sex? Or after the shadow-beings got her friends at the park? Or was the entire thing a dream in her coma? Very very ambiguous, lol, nonetheless amazing, beautiful, exciting and thought-provoking! ✊✊✊❤❤🙏🙏

U see the same in the other guys dream, which is the manifestation of her lover in her dream world. That is why she smiles.

@@yooka3333 For a film that was made with only a budget of $15 Million USD compared to other films in 2011 I can say it wasn’t that bad, the movie itself is aesthetically pleasing along with the soundtrack - the storyline not so much, but it wasn’t terrible. The same can be said for Come True. Yeah it’s overrated, but I’ve seen worse.
@yooka33332 жыл бұрын
@@wsnt I never thought a movie could be just aesthetically pleasing in order to be good. Congratulations to the cinematographer, but it stops there for me. The story was terrible, badly written, and without any point at all. To me, Drive is a beautiful empty shell. I've seen worse too, of course, but Drive is at the same time totally empty and pretentious, and it makes it perfectly despicable to me :). At least, most of movies who are even worse than this one have the good idea of being unpretentious, and are then better to me than Drive. I'll always prefer an honest idiot to a pedantic moron, and I think Winding Refn clearly belongs to the latter category.

@armand548yt3 жыл бұрын
@@shinankoku2 I don’t want to write a wall of text. But if you put together the Jungian themes, the runaway backstory, the sleep paralysis demon subtext, the ending perfectly fits and makes complete sense. The girl Sarah is not real and just a fragment of the person in a coma, we’re looking at the shattered psyche of the man/woman, running away from her awakening. Kinda funny contrast with the insomnia. Just so much is there to dig out and connect. It’s fantastic.
@shinankoku23 жыл бұрын
@@armand548yt feel free to write a wall of text. This movie deserves it. And those of us who love it (I’m guessing) are going to enjoy bouncing our theories off one another. I personally have a new theory about what’s going on - I essentially believe that Sarah is terrified of aging. In her own world she is immortal, which is finally manifested when she ‘becomes a vampire’. In my interpretation of the movie, the shadow men are the doctors trying to bring her back. In her mind they are specters of the reaper, trying to bring her back to a world of decay and eventual death. The sequences of ‘the other place’ represent the real world, the hospitals and institutions where her physical form presides. As she ‘sleeps’ her mind becomes more conscious (ironically) and she is more are of the world … which, again, her mind dresses up as a place of decay and death.

Then it was all dream, lol, or was it that she went into a coma after sex when the shadow was close? Or when she sleepwalked through the door of light, at the end? @@yngwiemalmsteen5376 Dude, try to play this song in Aeolian, and see if there is any tone that sounds like the song. You won't be able to do it. If a song uses I V IV in a verse and uses something like I V III in the chorus, that doesn't constitute a keychange, it constitutes a progression.
