Adibiatic equation. That particular one is for correctpy sizing the protective conductor. Can also be transposed for thermal withstand under fault conditions where T= S²K²/I² I always loved the matatical side of electrical engineering. If you can understand that then you can understand where a lot of regulations get their figures from These videos will be golden for any learner or as a refresher. Keep up the good work! 💪

Great info buddy. Only just come across yourself. was Looking for info on using swa as the cpc as changing my fuse box in the garage (2 core 2.5mm cable already buried and under concrete lol)

Great Chanel James, don’t know how I haven’t come across you before. Excellent information in a clear and precise delivery. Trying to work out max demand is a pain, but I will be using your method from now on as it’s so straight forward, many thanks.

A very good video which I shall use. My only criticism is that when showing formula with values inserted, you should also show the original formula so that the students can see which figure is what. Students about to watch, pause the video and note the formula! To students.. don't avoid these till later, get to grips with these two and all the rest of the cable stuff will follow much easier.

Is it permitted to use the equation to calculate the main earthing conductor on a TNS supply? ie 6mm or 10mm instead of 16mm
@JamesCurnowElectricalEngineer2 жыл бұрын
Hi Gerald, Thank you for your question. Yes, regulation 543.1.1 says that the cross sectional area of every protective conductor, other than protective bonding conductors shall be calculated in accordance with 543.1.3 (which gives the adiabatic equation) or selected in accordance with 543.1.4, which means selecting in accordance with table 54.7 in BS7671. Please also bear in mind that: there are minimum sizes for buried earthing conductors and the DNO may specify a minimum size of conductor. I hope this helps. Regards James

James as previously advised I am sitting the 2396 at the end of the year, can you do anything on discrimination, i really would like some help on the example shown in the IET electrical design guide 4th edition page 78. If you can.
