My Mom got her first TENS unit after a car accident in the mid 1980's. I have also been using them myself for neck and back pain since the early 1990's. I don't think I could go much more than a few days without one.

I have arthritis in my knees and I use this on my calve and thigh and it works really well to take the pressure off of my knee.

Fyi there was a UK TV series of scientists and designers,last year, one of which made something similar for a lady artist who had lost most of her control of her hands for drawing. Their device did something similar and got her drawing again....

When I Jack my back up and go to the chiropractor he uses a larger unit like this. It uses 4 pads. I wouldn't want to do it everyday, but it definitely helps break up muscle spasms after a few uses. Think of it as a cheap massage.

It should read "Shiatsu" not Shiatus. The fact that a company making a massage device misspelled a very common massage technique would make me very wary of using it. Thanks for risking your life for our entertainment! hahaha ;) High-Five!

With enough TENS devices and a ghoulish intent you could animate a corpse. That being said I have a different but similar model and it significantly lessened the pain in my shoulder and back pain after recent injuries. I've known about the technology for literally decades. After a car accident the physical therapy office I was going to used a professional grade stimulator and hot sandbags on my back as the end of the session treatment. I loved it. They'd leave the room and after acclimating to it I'd crank the sucker way up. They never once noticed. TL:DR - This is a legitimate treatment device if used properly. Although I will NOT allow my doctor to implant one in my SPINE. And yes, he wants to.

Very similar units sell for as little as $10 locally and on Amazon. The devices look and feel WAY more expensive than that. The cases have the heft and finish of pricey wireless lav mic receivers. The li'l shockers are sold as "TENS Units", deliver powerful jolts and somehow they allow a single 9-volt battery to last for MONTHS. They're actually great to treat mildly busted backs. ~ When I first Googled these things, I discovered they are also used for a weird purpose in many "electro-stim" porn videos. Yuck!

I had a guy from a kiosk at the Mall of America walk up to me and slap a couple of those pads on my neck without telling me what he was doing and switched the thing on. I screamed what the hell are you doing to me! Get it off now! He complied and backed away from me probably afraid that I might hit him or something because I was pissed. Yeah. Not a fan of them.

I don't like the fact that you can buy such devices without any medical supervision. You can damage your body when using incorrectly, and what about someone wearing a pacemaker? Additionally you'll need to replace the pads regularly: can one buy replacement pads? At least there should be a non-extendable time-out switch: no 'treatment/program' can last longer than 10 minutes at a time.

The device comes with a 20 minute timeout, though you can get past that by turning it off and back on. I also find it very weird stuff like this can be sold to anyone anytime. It doesn’t seem right.

The pads are disposable. They're sold in inexpensive bulk packs.

Sorry, but look at the things anyone can buy down to household spices that used wrongly can be injurious or even fatal. Any idiot can buy a car and kill themselves or others with it. They sell knives for $1. We can only protect people from themselves to a certain degree and then we've got to step back and let Johnny wire up his weiner and set the TENS for the heart of the sun.
