How the current delivered by DG changes in the two instances( 400kw@ .8 pf and 500kw @ upf). In the two instances current delivered by the DG will be same since the KVA remains same in both cases. Generator is always operating in lagging pf due to stability issues during parallel operation. For example if two generators are operating in parallel and due to any reason if the speed of one generator tends to increase. In this case if the generators are delivering lagging currents, then the change in speed of the one machine will cause one machine to be operated as generator and other as motor wrt each other and the developed synchronizing torque will help to reduce the speed of the machine and helps the machine to regain synchronism.

Mostly generator sets are operated at 70-80% load. If we use capacitor bank with this 70% load, the maximum load will be less than the manufacturer rating and no safety alarms would operate. eg: For 500kVA/400kW, the 70% load is 280kW. If we improve the Power factor to 0.95, then the output at this load will be ~295kVA.So at 60% load (295/500) we can run our machinery of 280kW.

DG are meant to operate from power factor up to unity within its capacity,I f it is so Resistive load can't be operated as it has a unity pf.DG dosent understand type of load and it cab handle any load upto unity pf within its rated capacity.i beleive within rating it's better to operate at .95 pf to have benifit of less loading on system then that of load at .8 pf. Very nice 👌👍🙏 In Cogen, Synchronous generators are used . They are also mentioned 0.8 of on name plate but we have to run this TG near to 0.91 to maintain 36% reactive power to grid. So this is how we can explain. Please reply sir And why we have to maintain above 36% reactive power while exporting to grid? Please make vedio sir

It's simple rules DG set should not be loaded more than 80% of its rating. The question is If want to use DG on optimum efficiency and the loads is already inductive, we should maintain the capacitor bank which are already there with loads. Please clarity this.

Good point Pramod. Pramod, jaha bhi Capacitor bank connect karte hai na uske upstream Circuit ka pf improve hota hai.. Agar aap MCC ke end mein bank lagate ho to wo motor ka PF nahi MCC ka PF improve karega..

in this case, if we connect 400 kw motor, it will conusme 500 KVA power from DG as the motor itself has a power factor of ideally 0.8. because motor needs reactive power and there is no reactive power source in this case except DG set. so what about this problem.

But why we do not add 4000 kw load in a 5000 kva alternator with unity pf... Still the load will be same i.e 4000 kw but the current will decrease in unity pf compare to .8 pf And decrease current cause less copper losses

Bhupesh, I have answered. When we add Capacitor bank we eventually improved the PF which affect the KW which I calculated in video. We don't want DG to be overloaded. This is the reason that we don't add bank.

Sir how about power factor less than 0.80? With lesser power factor say 60% Load Power factor = 0.6 DG rating in kVA = 1000 Load in kW = 500 Load kVA is required = 500/0.6 = 833.33 % of DG utilization = 83.33 With improved power factor using APFC say 80% Load Power factor = 0.80 DG rating in kVA = 1000 Load in kW = 500 Load kVA is = 500/0.8 = 625 % of DG utilization =62.5 From the above it is clear that when power factor is improved the DG utilization for defined load say 500 kW is less and the burden on DG is reduced compared to the unimproved power factor. So isn't that good to connect APFC and maintain PF close to 80 ? Can you pls explain what would be case if we connect a load of 750 kW with 0.6 PF, will the DG supply load current? Also one small suggestion instead of using 'KVA' pls use 'kVA'
