I don't live in NYC, but I travel by E-bike only. I own a commuter bike, a cargo bike, and a 500w scooter. I left my drivers license expire, and have no current need for car insurance. I've ridden 16k miles between my two bikes in the past two years. If a bike license and insurance becomes a requirement, it'll ruin E-bikes for me. I get that there's some extremely powerful home built bikes that are out there causing havoc, but that's not what I have. One tops out at 20mph, the other at 28mph. I don't want to go back to driving a car, but if the government is going to make a cash grab and enforce these things, then the bikes will have to go. I'm not paying insurance on both.

Thanks for sharing, Jay! That's really good insight into points that need to be considered by government officials.

I took my favourite two bikes & put ekits on them they are lighter then most e-bikes & I mainly cycle & just want little help on hills.

No doubt it can be done. I have a couple pre-fab Aventon’s and I’ve seen some very impressive DIY kits out there. One dude here had an old steelie converted and I nearly fell over. It looked incredible.

Very cool! What bikes did you convert?

Great video. Super informative, but I’ll hold my breath for Segway… 😊 Hey, if you’re looking for a city that is making some big (early) strides in its biking infrastructure, give Edmonton Alberta a look. Winter city 8 months of the year, but close to 200kms of trails and the largest urban park of its type in North America. The River Valley (sexy name, I know) is loaded with single track and shared pathways. The City went heavy focusing on bike infrastructure in 2017, and we have dedicated lanes downtown and a much better connected system. Plus we have plows that work all winter (24-48hr turnaround) to clear bike lanes and paths. Our bike groups go out in any kind of weather. Night rides in -15C? No problem (other than maybe battery warmers for us e-bikers). It’s a dry prairie cold you can dress for! 😊 I’ve put 1800 km on my Aventon Ramblas since July because I’m out every day or two. Great mix of urban trail, single track and even a bike park in Devon, just southwest of the city. There are plans to build one in Edmonton soon, thanks to the advocacy of the Edmonton Mountain Bike Association. Bike life in Edmonton is SLOWLY becoming a point of pride for us. We keep pushing. Thanks guys! 👊🏾🧔🏾♂️

Whoa! Sounds like a super bike-friendly city! Pretty incredible that so much effort goes into keeping bike lanes/paths. Thanks for sharing, we'll dig more into that and likely highlight the city in a later episode of the show.
