The Sondor bikes seem lackluster, but at the price point you really can't complain. Also, I don't know if you get paid or your do your reviews for fun, but you do a excellent and thorough job. As a electric bike owner I appreciate the diligent information. Always keep up the great work.

Thanks Paul! I pour myself into these reviews, ebikes are wonderful but also complex and expensive... my goal is to try and make them more accessible and to share objective feedback so people can choose the right ones for their budget and lifestyle needs. Anyway, I make some money from KZbin's ads and have some big bike companies that do banners on the website. It's enough to keep going, appreciation is felt so thanks :)

Thanks, it has been eating away at me... wanted to do something special with the two speed geared hub and also had to wait longer for the white model and then the LCD to arrive. I've been in touch with the Sondors team for a while about it and was debating to review someone else's black Sondors which shipped earlier. This video was long but I learned a lot in the process and wanted to share that. Was neat working with Velofix too :)

Love my black Sondors Thin! Although I also have the Sondors Fat and that one is definitely a head turner. I have received many comments on my fat bike and none on the Thin.

Thanks for another awesome video review! I've been comparing the Geo Orbital 700c wheel/motor/battery unit that attaches to my own bike's front fork ($799 plus $90 shipping), vs. getting a whole new e-bike. This Sondors is a better value at $700, but it's a beast of a heavy bike. The delivery time is just a bit too long for me. Waiting four months is a bit much.

I have had the black sondors thin bike for well over a month and I love to commute from and to work. I been watching EBR for over a year and after the original Sondors fat bike review I really wanted to purchase an ebike, but I live on the third floor of my condo and ebike are know To be on the heavy side, so when the thin bike was announced I when in well informed on what to expect thanks EBR for the great reviews.
@ElectricBikeReview8 жыл бұрын
Awesome! Glad the early reviews helped you decide, how has the Thin been working for you? Do you take the pack out to make it lighter when you go upstairs or is it alright as is at around the 46 lb mark?
@jmedina12338 жыл бұрын
+ElectricBikeReview.com The thin ebike has been working great for me, but my thin bike still makes the same noise as in the video when breaking I was hoping it would go away after the breaks got worn in but that hasn't been the case I might take it to a local bike shop, so they can inspected for me. I get ask a lot of questions about my bike especially from co-workers who are now planning on buying and ebike. I will now be able to guide them to a proper review of the ebike that is not a sales video 😃. For the weight of the bike taking the battery off really makes it more manageable to carry down stairs, but either way battery on or off is not bad at all.
@jmedina12338 жыл бұрын
am actually surprise on how light it is for an ebike, but I was expecting the bike to be 6 to 7 pounds lighter might not sound like a lot but every pound makes a big differences. One last thanks for the great review and also for providing the recommended psi for the tires on your website. The Sondors website makes it almost impossible to find the recommended psi.
@ElectricBikeReview8 жыл бұрын
Luis! You made my day, glad you noticed and appreciated the little details like PSI... I try to record EVERYTHING that could be useful, like frame geometry and stuff. The bottom bracket mixup was a result of not having some of these details (albeit, this is a VERY deep piece of info that most don't need). Anyway, I feel that the Sondors campaigns have always "marketed" their way around price and weight which feels a bit misleading. Even with the full ~$700 price and ~46 lbs it's a good bike but when you say $499 and 38 lbs I guess it just gets people excited. I do my very best NOT to be salesy with my videos, I am not owned by any companies and I'm clear about advertisers etc. It costs me something but I feel like it gains respect and produces better outcomes for viewers :)

This is excellent. I am so glad you introduced velofix. I would be looking forward to having my bikes serviced by Velofix. I am so sick and tired of all the local snobby bikes shops' attitude towards ebikes. Mobile services are definitely the future. As for Sondors thin, it's a decent bike, but will cost a lot to upgrade. The 8.5 Amp Hour (10S3P?) is not enough at all.

@ElectricBikeReview8 жыл бұрын
Depending on your weight, the terrain and even the weather (like wind) I'd estimate at a minimum on level 5 you'd get 18 miles and if you only used the throttle you'd get ~15 miles. It could go lower but I feel like those are safe, especially with a new bike that's setup right and a new battery :)

I did have some trouble with flats on both tires the first week. I found it best to replace them with extra long presta valves equivalent. A quality tube is key. My belt drive version did begin to howl a bit but adjustment and some belt dressing spray quickly resolved that issue. I, like many others, am waiting to purchase a second battery. Its not the lack of range that spurred this desire but the weight and design of the battery pack itself. Easily fitting in my hydration backpack, trips of 40+ miles truly open up the bikes worry free smile quotient. PS: Great heads up on the mobile bike shop.

I would love to see someone like Specialized, Haibike or Riese & Muller to put the money into buying Sonders and turning it into their own "more affordable" ebike options. This would serve two purposes, it would keep the Sonders bikes affordable while giving the option to get warranties and support, and also getting them off the kickstarter campaigns and all the negative things that go with it (for example when they first started out they wanted their first bike to be $1999 but it ended up costing way more by the time they actually had them prepared to deliver)

Great video. I actually am wrapping up watching it all. I really enjoyed the VeloFix truck in action in such thorough detail. I've never heard of such a service. Its good they are disrupting the bike maintenance & retail industry (35:57) because that industry seriously needs disrupting. Everybody has heard of or have their own stories of the bike shops with their arrogant condescending attitudes. I have my own experiences as well and a bike shop is the place of last resort for me. I realize there is a whole host of issues going on in the LBS which is beyond the scope of this comment! :) One of my hub driven e-bike's has never had good balance on its tire, I may need to get that trued up but hesitant to bring it into a bike shop and receive their poor attitude with e-bikes on top of whatever other personal prejudices they might have. I do not have any truing equipment or enough experience to do that correctly at the moment. I may end up buying my own truing stand and investing some time to learn how use it. All to avoid the LBS! Or call up VeloFix.

Travis took two separate very first test rides. You showed putting the battery in after he had already done a test ride. Hmmm, editing error perhaps? I have the belt and I think the gearing is a little lower (easier to start) and seems to kick on the assist a little sooner than your video. Also, read the manual for the screen towards the end, you can go into settings and increase its "max" speed. this essentially just stops that speed governing that you noticed, but I have only achieved 22 mph.

Any electric wheel you recommend to make any normal standard bike electric? Geoorbital is making a wheel, but it's not out till next year, and they promise 20-30 miles of distance with 1 charge. Was wondering if you knew of any that offer the same or even more. Thanks
@ElectricBikeReview8 жыл бұрын
Yeah... it's a neat concept but I wonder how durable and comfortable the Geoorbital will be. I've had mixed experiences with all-in-one wheels and outside of simple hub motors, weight tends to add up and impact steering... lack of spokes hurts ride quality. Just a basic geared hub works fine and having a downtube battery is nice if it fits your frame. I also like the BBS02 mid-drive systems from E-RAD, here are the kits I've covered: electricbikereview.com/category/kits/

Not the weaker ones like this motor, but there are plenty of 2000+ Watt motors that pull bikes right up hills.

I recommend people go to their facebook and look at all the 1 star reviews.

i did, there is no 'star' rating system, and all the other reviews on the bike are very decent n honest, not too hard of a judgement call when it's only a bike n you have a brain on your shoulders. It has good reviews....

you can build a better bike with ebay ebike parts. Get a 1000 watt motor, parts and batteries under 500 bucks. not sure how they work though

True, you can build a more powerful, faster and possibly better fitting or more comfortable ebike for around this price but it won't look as nice and will take a lot of effort to do, skills and tools that not everyone has, it's a trade off but I like kits so I feel ya :)
