Appreciate the comprehensive, objective intro to the RemiDemi, Court. Nicely engineered, the accessory integration is premium for sure. It doesn't appear the commenters are acknowledging the differentiation the mid-drive Bosch represents compared to the lower price bikes in the category. I also have a new pro tip to try; your rack mounting protocol - brake, rock back, front wheel in tray!

Interesting to read the comments here and on the Tern GSD review. Price-wise this sits a bit below the Tern, carries less, but has the same low-step-low-gravity frame approach. I like the bike uses a Bosch mid drive rather than one of the cheapie Bafang hub drives. More waterproof and durable, plus balanced weight distribution. Perhaps have an option for the Performance Line S motor?? The comments regarding motor watts and battery comparison to Rad are not that relevant. At least by manufacturer claims, the Benno has a longer range with 500 w battery (35-90 miles vs 25-45+ for Rad) but range is so variable depending on battery, rider weight, terrain, etc. Some of the details like the grips are nice. But the comments regarding price seem spot on. If this is a dealer supported bike with a robust warranty, could justify some differential. But 3X more expensive seems excessive. Rack system is great. Some people may appreciate the nicer quality details and I would compare this bike to Tern. I own a Vektron (which folds, but has a lower spec motor), which I like a lot.

Another good review. I'd love to hear more information about pricing. Some bikes are expensive (or cheaper) for obvious reasons, but having that context would be good. For instance, if the bike is made locally in the states, you can expect it to be more. Conversely, if a bike is made abroad somewhere with much lower labor costs, or if it's made at much higher numbers. It should help people make better judgement as to whether it's a rip off or a justified reason. Absolutely love the interaction at the end! Gorgeous looking bike

Small little weak frames with overblown Chinese motors and bad welding jobs all around... I also almost lost a old buddy on a cheap kaboo wolfwarrior or something fast scooter...(because of quality). I will be saving a bit longer, but I will be going for belt driven and all of that good stuff that prolong the durability of the entire package; plus keeps someone locally in business instead of some mega slave camp in china, or italy really (as china owns over 1/4th of all italian made products by this point....

Actually, the motor is very capable as long as you shift to the lower gears. Mid-drive motors are some of the most powerful, and I'm guessing that this one tops out around 600 watts... even though they rate it at 250. That's just the nominal rating, and all of the Bosch motors are rated that way, even the super powerful CX. Look at the torque rating, it's 65 newton meters, which is pretty great for the size and weight of the motor, and it's plenty for this ebike in lower gears, even on steep sections (in my experience).

Yeah, I know it seems expensive at first glance. I look at a wide range of ebikes and actually think the price on this (for the motor, battery, brakes, lights etc. that it comes with) is actually pretty great, lower than I expected. I was expecting more like $3,799 because the frame is so custom. Benno kept the price lower with a slightly smaller Bosch PowerPack 400, the compact charger, and the Purion display, but everything else is pretty high-end, including the brakes and touch points :)

@@ElectricBikeReview Actual owner of one of theese : Looking at the load capacity weight number alone, this bike doesn't look very impressive. It loads half of the Tern HSD, but importantly that load has the same low gravity point, both for front and rear cargo. It makes a huge difference to a 26/700/29 ebike frame to get that 50kg load lower. The Tern HSD would also carry 1 child (and not 2), so in terms of functionality it is somehow similar, but the Tern pherhaps more capable for "camping trips" (at least before the RD accessories develop). The ride style however, is a bit different where (from my limited testing of the Tern) the Tern is more tippy/nervous than the RD. It uses a shock to offer confidence over bumps, where the RD's wide wheels gives confidence in the "attack angle" of for example sidewalk barriers. This bike is oddly confident on slightly rough and uneven terrain when loaded. Imagine the Tern requires more "balancing" to hog around 50kgs of load (steering more 90 degrees onto barriers/bumps). The RD is, as you say, a bit bumpier due to small wheels, especially at higher speed. Another competitor to the RD is the Benno Boost with the Performance engine that is priced lower than the CX variant. In my opinion that non-CX engine makes the Boost better for many usage cases (I'd probably buy it if it was avavible), but the Boost does not have the same easy-on-easy-off frame design as the RD. I will not be surprised if we see the Benno RD frame with an open link, -or the implementation of the Veer closed frame carbon-belt and internal gear. That would raise the drivetrain/belt more from the ground, -pherhaps this (and other 20") bikes biggest weakness (but also add weight and complexity).

Nice design for sure! Looks so solid, like it will last forever, but I feel like more of these mid-drive bikes should be belt driven. The chains are a weak point with these systems, and I am still not convinced the power should be put through these chains and gears. Electric cars do not need transmissions because they have massive torque at a very wide range of rpm (switching gears would be a waste of time), so why do electric bike motors need to run through gears? I am not convinced the benefits of running the power through gears outweighs tradeoffs. Either you will break chains or you will be proactively replacing them regularly..., either way it seems like a higher maintenance solution than a hub drive which puts no stress on the chain or belt. Maybe the Euro 250w limit is forcing them to run there power through gears to maximize the outputs...? Euro laws having too much influence on world ebike market? Further, I expect that due to easy interchangeability, a hub drive motor will likely be much easier and less costly to replace than a mid drive system that has been superceded by newer systems without interchangeability. Sorry I am digressing into a philosophical exploration of Ebike drivetrains... I really do like this particular Benno bike design overall, and Court, you are doing a fabulous service for this ebike transportation revolution!

Yep 250w is bugger all. Needs gears and the lower power loss the better.

Belt over chain would be nice, but still there is a certain loss of efficiency in internal gears like the Nexus, and also a weight gain. A bike type similar to this, with aluminium frame, belt and internal gear would be nice to see.
@ElectricBikeReview4 жыл бұрын
Belts are cool, but I prefer chains and cassettes because they tend to be lighter and tighter. I'm not a fan of internally geared hubs or CVT systems... but I'm the kind of guy who likes to drive a stick shift and feel the system. For me, shifting gears is a big part of the fun, and it's way less satisfying on these other systems, even the Rohloff E-14 :D
@wesflack9924 жыл бұрын
@@ElectricBikeReview I understand the joy with shifting and I can see why you would want it.. All of my cars are stick shift, but shifting on a bike doesn't give me the satisfaction of nailing a rev-matching heel-toe downshift one of my old E30s. My new ebike, the Zooz, has just one gear, and I have not been missing the derailleur shifting action during the first 400 miles. I have not tried the other systems you mention but mostly because those bikes all seem too expensive. Your comment about tightness feel of chain versus belt has me wondering how I would like the feel of it in comparison with chains... I like the concept of belt drive, and the lower maintenance, but have yet to do some hard pedaling on a belt drive.

Hopefully, someone will engineer and realize a Commuter-ready Class 1, 20" wheel, 350W, one speed, universal frame bike with two 36V batteries (to quash range anxiety) and most importantly, NOT an AliExpress or Wally World "toy" ..... for under 750 USD tax included. (?)

3.4k for such an underfeatured bike. This is a shill job.

You talk too much, and repeat yourself frequently. Cut your review times in less than half. Thanks.

Fair points! I edit each video and do notice some repetition. My reviews are stream of consciousness but I prepare a list of points that I'd like to hit and sometimes I repeat. My goal is to demonstrate the points as I speak, more than just rapid fire. I could certainly do more in terms of editing... but I don't want to hire a team and spend more time on that, it means more expense and less independence for me, which is why I put the time stamps to help people skip forward if they want :)

Spokes? No thanks. For this amount of money it should have mags.
