SCOUTART I do think Shark Tale’s animation is the worst of DreamWorks movies and I hated Shark Tale however I’ll say this, there are bad animated movies that are way worse and have worse animation than Shark Tale such as The Nut Job, Ratatoing and Norm of the North to name a few. Personally, I don't see the film having any similarity with A Bug's Life besides working to support the colony. The main characters have different motivations, the villains are different in goals and background, the story arcs are their own ways of telling either underdog stories or protecting the colony from those who are selfish, and even the jokes are different in standards. So I'd say this being a ripoff of A Bug's Life is like saying Megamind is a ripoff of Despicable Me.
@robbiefarabee6954 Жыл бұрын
I agree. Besides the fact the two films stars ants. Antz and A bug’s life are two different movies. When it comes to the stories, A bug’s life is more colorful and adventurous while Antz is more satirical and darker toned.

I think one of the reasons why my sisters and I loved and enjoyed the Antz characters a little more than A Bug's Life was the fact that we saw the film in theaters (and had the VHS tape) in the Spanish dub. We were very young and never realized the characters were modeled exactly after their actors, so we always saw the ants as themselves. I do enjoy A Bug's Life but... I don't know, there's just something in it that doesn't make me love it.
@JGstarzintheireyes6 жыл бұрын
Both Antz and A Bug's Life have their own reasons to be despite the striking resemblances', Antz is literally all about the ants, the society and how everything works inside the ant hill, A Bug's Life is literally about bugs lives, not just ants, like their struggles against birds, but A Bug's Life isn't about predictability, it's about what is in the journey along the way, and it has every scene in it at it's best, from it's breathe taking opening, with it's musical score, humour, each one has it's own engagement factor, a real new level of "never a dull moment", to the point that it doesn't even need a human, Antz with realistic looking designs to the point of seeing a wasp from an ants perspective, well A Bug's Life's designs show that it is just unnecessary really, the ants being more humanised, the brighter colour scheme, this is animation, it's not just visual appeal that's important, but animation and realism don't match

I watched this movie when I was a kid, but all it did was bore me to tears. It's probably because it feels more like an adult animated movie than a kid's film, so I might enjoy it more if I rewatch it today. Heck, I might find it even better than A Bug's Life in that regard, being that I found that movie was just...meh to me.
There are a couple of other things I should mention about this movie: Unlike A Bug's Life, this movie focused solely on realism having massive scale environments and even bugs that are scaled according to their real life counterparts. Also all the characters are adults, as the only child characters are the baby larvae showing that once a bug become's it's adult form, it becomes... well, adult. However the worst thing I could say about this movie, is that it inspired Dreamworks to make Shark Tale with a similar style with the characters looking like their actors and it sucked so bad. And for whatever reason, and I can't believe I'm the only one who brings this up, but both Shark Tale and Monsters vs. Aliens would have news anchers dubbed by real life news anchers from around the world according to the movie's region of release. And that bothered me, because it felt unnecessary and out of place if you live in an English speaking region outside of the US, especially places with quite a different accent like Australia and New Zealand. But both movies were still commercial failures regardless. Though I may of gotten a little bit of enjoyment from the Monster vs. Aliens video game demo on Xbox 360 ironically.
