Elliott was 11 years old when this went live into hundreds of cinemas across the world. It takes a very special kind of 11 year old to carry a 3 hour show live across the world and do it in such a perfect way. Elliott Hanna is so fantastic at bringing out the emotion, humour, and passion of the character. As far as I am concerned he is the best Billy ever. Ha! Funny you would say that. In the Dutch version of the musical they decided to rename this song to "Kippevel". Kippevel (also kippenvel) means "chicken skin", i.e., goose bumps!

Selecting Elliott Hanna to star in the show that would later become a DVD was no accident. The director chose him for his talent and his great personality on stage. The whole cast - children and adults - was very balanced for the best result. Since then that filmed show is used to train all future Billy Elliot anywhere in the world.

Also, I always thought it was kinda odd how he started the role so young (started performing the role at 10) and then leaving just before his 12th birthday (when most Billys do the role at that age). A lot of Billys even do it until they're 14. I then watched Elliott's performances as a 13 year old and omg I understand why he left early. Puberty hit him like a truck. He was literally stretched out and looked like he was a 16 year old, and his voice got so much deeper in such a short amount of time. I don't think he would have been convincing as Billy at that age anymore. So, I guess it was wise he left earlier than most.

@KingofMeereen Exactly, he grew too fast physically. But the length of time he played the role was about the average as the life span of a Billy is about 18 - 24 months. He left early because he was able to start early, meaning that at age 10 he was already tall enough to pass as an 11/12 year old. The other boys who started at age 12/13 couldn’t have started at 10 as they would have looked way too young for the role. I think I saw the video you mentioned from when he was 13. It’s shocking how grown up he looked just a year after he left Billy.
