Chinese EVs are the dike that the Dutch boy tried to plug with all his fingers and toes and still couldn't stop the breech. They are coming whether we want them to or not, whether we try to stop them or not. We will, however always have Teslas as options and their prices have come down almost as much as their quality has gone up.

I‘m Chinese. I can introduce to you the development prospects of electric vehicles. The biggest difference between electric vehicles and traditional fuel vehicles is that it is a pure electronic consumer product. For electric vehicles, you can't consider depreciation the same way as you would for fuel vehicles. Electric vehicles evolve and update extremely fast, with significant technological upgrades every six months to a year. Similarly, the model update speed of electric vehicles will far exceed that of fuel vehicles. In fact, electric vehicles can be viewed as a mobile phone with wheels. Once electric vehicles achieve sufficient sales and market penetration, their costs will drop to a stable and reasonable level. At that point, just like mobile phones, you would likely replace your electric vehicle with a new model every 3-5 years, while the older model could still be used or sold for a very low price. In Europe, I believe your biggest issues are infrastructure and electricity prices. Are you able to build and maintain a sufficient number of public charging facilities? And can you create a large enough price gap between electricity and gasoline? In China, filling up a tank of gasoline costs me around 50-60 euros, while fully charging an electric car only costs 6 euros. There is a tenfold difference in price, yet they offer almost the same driving range. This is a significant reason for the rapid development of electric vehicles in China.

Hi Chai. As i've stated above in my other comment, i would like you to investigate the new upcoming concept of "EREV" , Leapmotor seems to be paving the way, also Mazda will release a model this year with a wankel piston type generator inside. Ever increasing demand for charging stations have bottlenecks of huge upfront investment costs, empty inner city spaces which are very rare in densely populated regions in the world such as europe and east asia contrary to most of US. Leap Motor seems to speed up Europe investments to eb the first here in Europe, made a partnership /merge with a western firm, and will build vehicles in Poland. i think EREV concept will be the winner in a few years taking the lead in EV transition from coneventional combustion engines. Would like to know more about this if you have access to latest automotive news in China domestic market.

China's new energy industry has been planned for more than 20 years. The reason for its rapid development is that China leads the world in power construction. No country has such a comprehensive and complete power system, roads, transportation, etc. as China. It is impossible for a normal country to provide electricity to a population of 1.4 billion
@chaichad7227

@@asencyel Leapmotor, if I understand correctly, is also a Chinese company, known as '零跑'. Meanwhile, many Chinese automakers such as BYD, 蔚来 (NIO), and 理想 (Li Auto) are also selling EREV models. These models have been developed in China for a long time and have been tested by the market. I do not have a preference for any particular technology. BEV, EREV,PHEV all have their own advantages. For daily short-distance use, BEV is more economical. However, if you need to travel long distances, then EREV are undoubtedly more advantageous. I sincerely wish that every country in the world enjoys the freedom to make choices, from brands to prices to features. After all, variety is always a plus.To sum up, I agree with what the video said, that a storm is coming in the automotive industry, and nobody wants to miss it, right?

I watched your take on China's lead and eventual global dominance re: EVs and I have to agree. I don't see how anyone other than Tesla can survive this tsunami. Even if all that Tesla can pull out is the "anything but Chinese" customer, that will be enough for them to hit their 20M/yr target, probably not 2030 now but only late by a year or two. There will be tremendous demand for Chinese vehicles but there will also be tremendous demand for Teslas too as the only alternative. It won't be like they are a bad alternative either, they will still be top of the line tech wise too.

Tesla is close to having a system that will drive anywhere that cars can drive, using no maps other than for navigation. BTW, Baidu seems to have better maps than what is available in the US. On top (most difficult), is the road users (drivers: car, motorcycle and bicycle and pedestrian) behaviors especially in urban area which Tesla have to learn as China practices is far different and complicated than US. I also watch Tesla FSD in U.S. show un-smooth when dealing with US urban area. That’s why Tesla keep its official as level 2, not even 3. The legacy car manufacturers like toyota are still concentrated on internal combustion engine with many moving parts to maintain and repair as opposed to EVs with just the batteries and the standard parts for maintenance (wheel alignment, oil change, etc.) it’s ancient technology already in 2024 and sooner than later ice vehicles will lose their ability to compete with electric vehicle and solar-powered vehicles incorporating disruptive technology (AI, full self driving, built in dash/sentry cams, etc). It’s not as much as any climate or environmental concerns, but since EVs have less moving parts, they’re generally easier and cheaper to maintain.

I hear Sam talk about China exports in total. People should be aware that Western auto companies are increasingly exporting from China to other international markets. I would think those are in the totals this video is giving. I know Ford has said that most of their business in China now is using it as an export hub. They claim they are now making profits in China thanks to those exports although Ford no longer provides financial reports segmented by region.

Tariffs are PUNITIVE not preventative. All tariffs generate counter tariffs that damage the general public while doing little for domestic production - in ALL industrial categories. Tariffs also spread to other economies in nations that support each other. As to "punishing" China - no way. China has a 'self contained' economy that subsidizes everything and every citizen. Tariffs are for people who refuse to make things well.
