As an ADHD kid, when I was in college, I seriously wasn't able to wake up for my classes on time. So, being the nerd I was, I decided to connect my guitar amplifier to my computer, set the volume and gain to 10, and write an alarm clock program to play some hard metal through it. I could hear the buzzing from the amp all night. Oh boy, did it work. The nanosecond it went off, I literally LEAPED out of my bed. Only did that a few times before I dismantled it. This totally reminds me of that. Obviously, with iPhones and such there's an easier way to do this now.

@tangodragonfruit5544 I mean, how hard would it be to take a switch off a trigger, and solder the wires on the alarm?
@douglassmalls6934 Жыл бұрын
@Tango Dragonfruit That wouldn't work, most explosives need either heat or a powerful shockwave to detonate. For example ANFO, a common explosive that is readily made at home, requires another explosion to set it off. Just fire or electricity won't work. You need to connect the wires to a specifically designed detonator and that would require greater voltage. So you would need to connect the alarm voltage to a relay or other switching device to tell the detonator to ignite.

Piece of advice from a fellow multiple-alarms guy : the trick is to have the alarms close enough to one another so that you can't fall back asleep completely between 2 alarms. Like, having 10 minutes between alarms is useless, because you're back to a deep sleep after 10 min so the second alarm is just as bad at pulling you out of sleep as the first one. From my testing, the optimal time is 3 minutes. 5 is acceptable, but less efficient.

Make the capacitor holder two pieces by splitting the body along the circumference midplane of the rotor disc. Then make it to where you can secure them together with 3-4 equally spaced screws accessible on the front circular face. You could even make the capacitor holes a little smaller so it holds them more snugly, and then the caps won't rotate in place when the alarm clock goes off.

Nice. Would be great to have a second stage if you hit the snooze button, with much larger free-flying capacitors.

Are you even have the courage to hit snooze button and sleep again after all that explosion 🤣

For version 2.0 you could scale it down by using an arduino and a stepper motor, this way you also could have your alarm clock software implementated.

In that case, why not go "solid state" and blow the caps up with some transistors instead of motorizing it

So excited for the Keysight Workshop tomorrow, I am just an electrical tinkerer and dont fully understand all the symbols and jargon, but love learning. Thanks Medhi, for all the do's and don'ts of electricity. I learn a little bit more with each vid, keep em coming.

An invention guaranteed to solve your tardiness in the morning, you will wake up or it will give you a heart attack and you wont need to worry about being late again, a true win, win situation.

What a way to begin the day. 💥 I used to have an alarm app for which you had to complete a mathematical test before it would turn off. For a few months I got very good very quickly but then I had to uninstall it because I was concerned that I might throw it out the window some tired morning! I can tell you there were mornings where pulling my brain together enough to complete the test and stop the alarm was almost to much, those mornings when you’ve been out late 😵💫. Imagine getting hit with math first thing of the day while your alarm goes off and last night was a rough one!

Still a worthwhile app feature..... I feel justified in considering it as a secondary usage.... training exercise to help hone ones skill of remaining zen under pressure.
@2009dudeman Жыл бұрын
I used an app like that for a little while. It stopped being effective when I was too tired to even see straight in the morning and just ended up turning the phone off in order to shut up the alarm.

I have a friend whose alarm clock shoots off a little fan and he has to find it to turn off the alarm. Usually it shoots off into the jungle under his bed tho😂
@meg-is-asleep Жыл бұрын
I use this and have gotten to the point where I sometimes end up just lying on top of the phone to muffle the noises and sleeping for several more hours.

Yeah to be honest all of the listed examples of alarm app* shortcomings, I've personally also used on a few occasions. LOL.
