for more information on the skipped section at around 3:40 he is talking about how to utilise the right tool for the job, if you only need to apply 1nm of torque then a 5 litre v8 that produces 400nm isnt the right tool. the gearing refers to the ability to change the load while maintaining a speed. if you expect to have more resistance you should use a higher gear ratio (ie 6:1 is more top speed 8:1 is more acceleration) with more rpm

I can't remember seeing it represented that way, and it bothered me(that back EMF wasn't symbolized). So that way of representing it helps it make more sense to me, because again I didn't have a symbolic way to separate the self inductance from the back EMF.

@16:16 After listening to these few seconds ten time I finally got it : shorting the back emf will brake the motor - not break it :-) I’m not a native English speaker that’s why, Mehdi’s English is perfect so are his videos and eyebrows dance. Thanks for this very interesting video, as a child I was always so impressed by what looked as magic to me when those puny motors moved on their own, ripped a few broken toys apart to get to these. Now I know so much more about them, that’s so cool 😎

Interesting! Really awesome to see these motors scaled up. I was a part of the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Polar Star's crew last year and it was so cool to get to help clean the brushes on one of the three nearly 2 story tall 4.3MW DC motors (While it was running!). They have to be some of the most powerful DC motors in the world. Really a privilege to get to see them in action up close.

In Poland we still have in use a lot of electric locomotives with brushed DC main motors, back in time it was too hard for our engineers to develop a proper H-bridges for them, so for power control they used very BIG resistors with huge cooling fans. It doesn't matter how slow was the locomotive going - always it took from power line half of maximum current or maximum current depending when motors were conected in series for start and low speed or paralel for speeds over 40km/h

I have been wondering why haven't you yet made videos about driving mosfets, emi filtering, etc you've mentioned in this video. Your videos are very useful to me personally and I find your ability to dig up, refine and present information to be quite commendable. I tip my hat of to you sir. I learn a lot of new things and even clears up or refreshes many concepts I forgotten. Sometimes I use info from your videos to help my students in class, if not, I just directly say to them to see your video on those topics and tell them he explains it better and he is funny too. I watch your videos even if I m not particularly looking for anything. This video particularly is one of my favorites and have watched it may be a few dozen times while just wondering around your channel. So I think you should do those videos especially on the emi filltering. I would love to see your take on the topic as it is one of things that fascinates me more than any other. Anyways Thanks for reading. Take care. :)
