In the part 1 of this tutorial I electroformed three maple leaves with basic equipment, but they came out with few issues. To solve all these problems, I add more advanced equipment. A magnetic stirrer, a heater and a thermometer, a bigger tank, anode bags... All these new factors will improve the electroforming process.

CuForming is a project of passion born from our love for both science and crafting.
Since 2018, we've been exploring the fascinating world of electroforming, where we merge the wonders of electrochemistry with geology, botany, zoology and the artistry of crafting.
Copper, with its versatility and beauty, is our favorite material to work with, and our designs are inspired by the intricate textures found in nature.
Through experimentation with chemicals, various materials, and the electroforming process, we create unique pieces that celebrate the intersection of science and art.
With inherited skills in electrical engineering, painting, sculpting and materials assembly, and the curiosity about new technologies such as 3D printing, CuForming is where science meets creativity.

Hey, i dk if you will ever see this comment, since this video is from a while back, but is there anyway you could possibly tell me the best heater to get or tell me why a fully submersible plastic heater is safe? Pleaseeee? I have recently bought all the supplies needed to begin electroforming except for a heating element of some sort. Ive looked and looked and I just feel like i cant find one suitable for this purpose. Maybe im over thinking it but i feel like a hot plate is a safety hazard and scares the crap out of me and so my next option was to pick a fish tank heater, which i see youve done for yours and many others have aswell. However, i can only ever find ones that are fully submersible and then they are also mostly plastic, which i feel like the bath would eat up and destroy. Then im concerned about if it does eat through the plastic of a fully submersible heater and the protective cover on the electrical wires gets dissolved what would happen? Would it just short out or could it start a fire or be able to electrocute me? 😂 lol now while i know i sound a bit crazy and that i am in some ways over reacting these are still the things that are concerning me bc i just do not know. 😅 please help...

Ok, I'm good... JK!!! Yes, you are overthinking and overreacting. I use a glass aquarium heater since always, and it didn't give me any trouble while it was in submerged in the liquid. Once, I burned one because I plugged it in while it wasn't in the solution, so it got super hot and then it got burned. Besides that, I had no troubles at all. I use a 25W for a tank of 4 liters (1 gallon). Just buy the first one you think is suitable for your budget. I'll trow a few Amazon links here: amzn.to/3Sk5YvU amzn.to/48SWH4R amzn.to/47WQhR4 amzn.to/3SEdhQh

A great video, thank you! Do you have any advice for how to prevent the wire you hang the object on to adhere to the object during the electroforming proces?
@cuforming
@cuforming 9 ай бұрын
Thank you for the appreciation. My advice to avoid that annoying situation is to use a thicker wire, the diameter should be around or larger that 1mm. A larger wire has much more rigidity, and you can make the object moving on it. I usually make the magnetic stirrer go fast to allow the object to swing back and for, left to right, on the hook. Checking and detaching your pieces once every hour is also a way to do it.

Hello, i already wrote you on others video about terra cota which is clay fired once but without glaze. I can cover it with latex rubber may be. First, think you for your answer. I have an other question about the solution, how long could we use it, what to do with it if we have to throw it ? I've seen that we must take a look to the level and re add distilled water on it, that's all ? well, i already say it, you really make a great job with your teaching videos ! (sorry for my english, i'm french !)

Thank you!!! The solution could work for very long time, you don't throw it away. You just need to adjust it based on the issues you have. If water evaporate, you add it, for different issues you add acid or brightener, or you might need to filter it with different kind of filters. If you need any specific advice about it, just contact me on Facebook or Instagram. I'm always available. Thanks and don't worry about your English, it's perfect!

Might I suggest a text inserting near the start to say "You can use a normal aquarium pump to circulate the water too, just remove the "activated charcoal" if it contains any" or some such phrasing, as building or buying a magnetic stirrer is outside what most normal people can do. Enjoyed the video, very similar setup to my own, though I purposefully starve my baths with much lower volumes of copper, as I'm running many small things at a time (10-20+) which, due to the high current requirement, dissolves the copper anode too rapidly causing oversaturiation, so minimal anode and frequenty adjusting it's depth as it gets eaten seems too be the better rouote than the traditional thinking of 1:1-2 :)

Thank you David. The pump is also an idea but I won't suggest it because copper sulfate will destroy it eventually and it will also take space in the tank. Keeping it outside of the tank means making tubing in and out, I think it's a waste of time and sometime can be a mess. For me it's a no.

Really cool !! is the surface strong after u electro formed them ???
@cuforming
@cuforming 5 ай бұрын
Thanks! The longer you keep it, the slower you go, the stronger it becomes. When the copper layer become thicker than 0.5mm, it will be very strong.

Can you buy the cooper pipes at say a Lowes or home depot, will those work the same....sorry if its a dumb question
@cuforming
@cuforming Жыл бұрын
For all I know, every kind of plumbing copper pipes is good for the job. The copper in the pipes contain phosphorus, which makes them the best cheap anode material. You will see them turning black inside the solution after just one use. That black layer will prevent the copper to get crumbly and to detach faster from the anode. If you use pure copper there will be no black layer, your bath will be filled with small copper pieces that can ruin your jewelry, also the anode will run out faster. Use anode bags in any case, with pure copper or pipes, to prevent dirtiness. Thank you for the question, and no… it was not a dumb one.

Does the electroforming process cause any dangerous fumes?

No, it doesn't. There is only water evaporating away from the solution.
