I feel you :D, my initial plan was to use Arduino Uno as a serial converter to update the firmware so making this tutorial really accessible and easy to more people, because for viewer like you it's more common to own an Arduino than serial adapter. I sat for couple of hours to find a way how to do that but had no luck, at least it works fine with proper adapter. Glad to hear it worked for you :)

Thanks for this video! It helped a lot! The 3.3V pin doesn't need to be attached though. They don't say it even in the default manual. Also, I had a bit problem with communicating. It was always saying that it can't open the bootloader or something like that. If anyone has the same problem, and if you are using the CP2102, you should measure the voltage on the 3.3V pin. If the output is not 3.3V, but it's around 4.24V, it's a broken module. It has one trace that shouldn't be there. If you have patience, some x-acto knife and magnifier, it's not that hard to cut that trace and after that, it worked for me without a single problem. (I really recommend illuminating the board from below, so you can see the traces better.) Thanks a lot for this video, thumbs up!

Did the update help with the accuracy issues from the previous video? I wanted to buy this oscilloscope just for simple audio measurements. If it's just a toy I"ll probably look for something else...

Sorry for late answer. I don't know about this accuracy issue, but speaking generally about the scope I can say it's more like a toy than a real scope but this toy is all you need for simple applications, this one is good enough for tinkering with audio but it really depends on what you want to do with it.

If one has a stlink v2 usb programmer/debugger, you can use the swd interface to program it instead of the uart interface. That way you don't have to solder the jumper bridges

In the manual of my dso it says to just press and hold the ok button and then switch the on off button to on to boot the device into download mode.

Some of DSO150 have a trigger voltage dispay at the right down corner. My instrument don't have. How to fix that?

Do we need to remove the female headers from J5 after update? or it stil fits the case with it?

Luckily it fits nicely :) , but you have to place it from the same side as I did.

To make this a lot easier to hook up there is no need to hook up the power from the USB-UART to the board. Only hook up TX-->RX and RX-->TX and GND. It will draw the 3.3 volts it needs from the onboard voltage regulator.

I just did the exact same process and it worked, however when I try to boot the oscilloscope, it boots, says the FW is the new one, but then says "This board is FAKE!" and does nothing else. Any advice?

Probably new firmware detects if its fake DSO150, so I suggest you to flash older firmware the exact same way and work with that :/. There's some reading about fake dso150 on JYE tech website, you can check that, but other than that I don't really know what to suggest, you might be stuck on old firmware...

Probably all of the original JYE Tech versions have this counterfeit DSO detection or on the first boot of the newer firmware something was triggered in maybe EEPROM so the new firmware update attempts wouldn't affect this data. I suggest looking at the item page from where you bought this dso, look for their firmware or something. I suggest contacting the seller to at least give you the "Fake" firmware so you could flash and at least make it work again.
