I've seen this process on an industrial scale when I worked in a Copper and Gold mine in AZ. They pumped in a slurry from the leaching pads at the ore pit into giant vats with titanium sheets in them for transfer. Then you'd see big rigs hauling out stacks of them on trailers.

You just have to take into account the voltage of 1.5V to 1.9 and amperes of 9.a to 11.a plus the pH, if it is too acidic, the gold does not crystallize.

So this process can be done with gold/silver/copper albeit with some variations right? Also are 11 amps necessary or would less amperage even be effective at all? I have a dc power source that's 120v3a. I got it for anodizing titanium parts for my motorcycle via distilled water, baking soda and a titanium plate then using a titanium wire when dipping the part. I got it for the 120v as voltage will determine the color and is way more accurate than torching it. If you don't like the color you can either sand/wire brush the color off or a quick dip in hydrofluoric acid works instantly but will dull the part as well. Between 50-70v turns it gold before going to purple.
@sreetips4 ай бұрын
The book calls for 1.5 volts dc. Amps fall where they may.
@CothranMike4 ай бұрын
Using high enough dc volt to get purple with variegations of many shades can be done with a frequency chopper if memory serves me today. You might look into that for laughs, DannoMight1980. You can also get a splatter effect, a splinter look, and several other waveforms with another bit of equipment who's name escapes me presently. I think the hardest effect was a rolling shade with dark shadows as you tune it or sweep with a frequency filter or something like that. It was a long time ago and I was impressed by the technical efforts put into it all by the pros. Now a days it might all be controllable with a Microcomputer or even just a PLC hooked to an Arduino!

so I've seen some people do this to clean up copper that has pgm and gold in it why doesn't the others just go over as well why do they drop out as sludge and here the gold is plating and contamination falling what is the defining factor the heavy concentration in the electrolyte
@sreetips4 ай бұрын
As in the silver cell, as long as parameters are correctly maintained then only the gold will deposit on the cathode. Insoluble impurities such as silver chloride and PGMs will fall as sludge to the bottom of the cell. Soluble impurities won’t plate out but will remain in solution in the electrolyte.
@williamfoote28884 ай бұрын
S is refining Au from a gold chloride solution with HCl. Refining raw copper is done by sawing the raw Cu into sheets, making it the anode and plating pure Cu onto the pure Cu cathode sheets, in a CuSO4/H2SO4 electrolytic bath. The Au and PGM is recovered as slimes for refining elsewhere. It’s done like that because mines Cu is generally rich enough in Au, especially, to make that slime recovery very worthwhile. When I was working at Newmont, one of the geologists told me that the recovered Au paid for the entire Cu mining and recovery operation. Any PGMs in that Cu is pretty incidental. Much/many PGM are a sideline from Ni mining.

Industry standard for pure gold is 999 parts per thousand. Anything beyond that is totally unnecessary unless it’s needed for some specific purpose such as a test standard. I did it mostly for the show, to gain a new and highly valuable video for my channel.
