When operating a sales based business this seems to make alot of sense operationally, but what about service based business. What is quoted (ordered) and what is provided (invoiced) can differ dramatically. Would this require manual inputs of every invoice that doesn't perfectly match the quote? It only makes sense from a security perspective however.

quite silly really. We have been sending PDF invoices for years on end. "Writing an invoice and posting by Post" went out decades ago! E-Invoicing merely contains data as an attachment or part of the invoice that can be automatically read out. It's just perfecting the big brother concept for tax purposes.

Hi, there is a big difference between e-invoicing and PDFs. PDFs are not machine readable like e-invoices are which are in XML or JSON format. PDFs can be easily edited online whereas e-invoices can't be which mitigates fraud. Fraud is rampant with PDFs hence the stringent e-invoicing methods. e-invoicing isn't just 'merely containing data' ....
