Also, bench power units are very useful if you work on Gameboys

@@ChewyChicken589 yeah for sure, not having to fumble batteries around while you work is convenient. Pretty much any handheld or console with a removed power port or voltage regulator (I’ve personally had many instances in the past).

For your dad's wire strippers that "aren't working as well as they used to", grab some light 3-in-1 oil (sometimes called sewing machine oil) and and treat the bearings (or moving surfaces). After applying the oil, work the tool a few times and then let it sit an soak in for a day.

I hear you on the hakko 888D. I feel what had happen was a point in time it really was dominating compared to the older technology which most older folks were use to havibg to wait minutes before being able to solder. My first station I ever got was a cheap weller and bro I had to go make a coffee and a sandwich before it was ready to go. So the 888D was a massive upgrade for the time. Now of course since cartridge base stations took over the market they are ideal and much more convinient to use. The T12 were very popular before I upgraded to my aixun T3A. I choose it because i wanted to get into the C245 cartridges which are amazing and can pretty much run through anything with alot of power delivery. Only the 470 beats it because of the tough ground plains but its so versatile in the different cartridges you can use. Ever since then my 888 took the back seat and never gets powered on anymore but I keep it because its a old reliable work horse and in case of an emergency ive got a good backup. Tools I currently need to get are a bench power supply, proper fume extractor, oscilloscope, and I would love a good esr meter to test caps. Excellent talk about probes for the meter im running with probe masters they are really comfortable smooth and soft silicone. You should check them out. They are on par with pomona's and all the other good ones like flukes.

@@rubenmejia4881 I agree with everything you said. I too need an oscilloscope and a fume extractor. I never thought probes were too important I will have to check out those probe masters, I wish I could find some multimeter probes that aren’t so long, I only need like half the length of what is standard.

@PunkNDisorderlyGamer probe masters make different size lengths for all of your needs they got both short and long versions, plus they are made here in the USA California. Delivery is fast too! I'm on the East Coast, and I got mine in about a week or less. I want to say like 2 or 3 days from what I remembered.

I bought the Pro'skit SS-331 desoldering station for around 133 euros a while ago and it has proven to be one of the most useful tools. I'm quite happy with it so far. By the way, I'm probably repeating myself, but I just love your channel, it's one of my absolute favorites! 👍

That Hakko desoldering pump is awesome. It also has a wide variety of tips that work well for different jobs. I recently got the slotted tip which works well for removing things like heat sinks. Also, you actually can get the Japanese version pretty cheap off of eBay but make sure you get a power converter if you do. I almost did that but I opted to just get the American version because I didn't want to deal with that but if you want to save some money that's the way you can go
