Hi Manuel. You probably won't recall but I drive a truck and watch your videos whilst parked up at night anywhere in the UK and western Europe. However, I haven't always done this work. Prior to this I worked in electroplating and still electroplate at home on a hobby scale. I may be able to give you a tip when it comes to restoring chrome. If you do not want the expense of having chrome trims re-electroplated but the piece is slightly pitted or marked there is a solution to improve it not as good as re-plating but improving nonetheless. Mix some bicarbonate of soda (baking powder) with a small amount of famous cola brand ... "The Real Thing". Mix until you get a toothpaste style consistency. Then scrunch up some kitchen foil (bacofoil we call it but thats a brand name) into a ball but with the shinier side on the outside. Dip the foil in the paste and rub vigoursly along the chrome. Reapplying the paste periodically. Then clean off with a rag and then a damp cloth. This process will not remove pitting but will remove tiny rust spots and light marks and greatly improve the appearance. No kidding. I also know a great remedy for removing rust from still that doesn't involve abrasives, is extremely gentle and again only involves secretly raiding the kitchen cupboards. Great video and I hope Mrs Caldiera has the same strain of "Covid light" that I had recently (I redecorated the house whilst in isolation). Regards Mark

I do remember you from our previous correspondence. Hope you’re still at the restorations. That formula is one I hadn’t heard of before. May come in really handy. Thanks. As for rust, I have tried vinegar and salt before and it worked. My wife gets nervous when I’m in the kitchen on “search supplies” mode. She knows that something is going to go missing 😊

@@electronicsoldandnew For rust on steel water down some molasses 50/50 and leave the parts submerged for a couple of days. You will pull out a part that looks brand new. I much prefer to remove corrosion via chemicals than abrasives as they don't tend to adversely effect the parent metal. Yes still struggling with radio restorations ... I love the cabinetry and aesthetics side of things but I am woefully slow (and ill equipped) at learning the electronics aspect .. but as Churchill said "If you are going through Hell .... keep going". So I recently purchased a tiny Austrian Minerva Baby Minx tube radio to further punish myself lol. Thanks for the reply.

Hi Manuel, Another great video. Hope you wife is feeling better soon. Just wanted to give you a heads up for the German / European units when replacing dial string I started using fishing line years ago with a great level of seccuess. I use a product called Premier Pro Series pe 4 braid it has a spider on the label. It's stronger and puts up with the atmosphere of living near the ocean. Thanks again, keep them coming.

Given the circumstances that's still a very fine restoration! I enjoyed the series and learned a lot from it. I had a similar problem with my Android phone recently when I filled up my phone's free Cloud storage limit. However, I don't do subscriptions at all if I can avoid it. Just the notion of a company being able to extract money from me every month for a service I may or may not use and didn't ask for to begin with somehow offends me. So, when I started to close in on my phone's minimum non-subscription limit I downloaded my videos & pictures into my laptop, then erased all but the current project's picture folder from my phone. That freed up my phone's storage for more videos, the Cloud is now happy I'm below my free allowance and I have my backup. This also limits the amount of data-mining the Cloud can do on my stored pictures with or without my permission. I am now planning to start a weekly incremental backup program to make certain even my most recent stuff gets downloaded, and then copy all of that again into a USB drive to have a backup of my backup because laptop SSDs are not infallible and there's always the chance of a malfunction months or years down the road.

I also don’t like lying for storage, but these videos take up tones of space. The 6001 series alone is clocking over 47GB of space! At the end of the project I do a backup and erase unnecessary files, but the amount of data is huge.

Hi Manuel. That is a great radio, shame about the lost video recording. The three new radios look very interesting. David Tipton did a superb restoration job on a Philips radio similar to the one you have there. I think that it was a B4x23A. Looking forward to seeing these three radios in the future videos. As always I thoroughly enjoyed watching. Cheers Chris.

You have been busy Manuel! It’s a shame you lost the footage but it happens from time to time. I did think you would have trouble with that dial cord binding so should be good once you get the right size. The old concert boy should be interesting. I did one of the original yacht boy radios and it had a weird clutch in it for FM which was broken. I have one of those Nordmende radios here that I bought a couple of years ago. They are very well made and it looks great. The shelf modules are breeding! Very useful though and should make testing equipment a lot easier. All the best Graham

Those clutches can be a real pain if they crack. This one has one but it seems fine. As for the modules: must be the climate. They breed like rabbits 😊

Regarding transistor radios, you may be interested in the B&0 Beolit series. I found a more recent one with an aluminium frame and slide rule style of cursors matching the B&O 901 you repaired, but earlier Beolit have the same style as the two ones you just shared the preview of.

Hi there! Good series of videos. As for the Concert boy - I have that as well, and I see that 2 years later there still is no video on it? what happened? Mine was dead, of course. I had to replace 4 of the 8 transistors in it. It uses the early 4 pins in a line big OC/OA transistors for RF/IF. They are bad, lots of them. No beating around the bush. 60 years later i suppose they develop tin whiskers or something. I replaced them with the more modern AF types and everything was fine after that. That Concert Boy is not much of a performer both in sound quality and reception quality... 8 transistors in total, what to ask of it?. But boy does it look pretty! It is also heavy as hell, with 2 audio transformers, a mains transformer, and also another "transformer"choke/coil for inductive mains filtering. It's the only radio / device with inductive mains filtering... I got hundreds of them but this one sure is special. And about the other one - My two cents from my own experience with the satellit 6001 I got - for the FM (mine was dead, just noise, then came back to life when I sprayed the tuner box with compressed freeze spray) try checking the solder joint to the tuner box. I dismantled mine for nothing as when i connected it separately, dismantled through some extension wires the damn thing worked flawlessly. Maybe instead of caps there were just cold solder joints.

Good and bad news, but good on average. The next projects will be very exciting. Those two transistorized radios are great. About the dial cord, I went to a fishermen's store to buy a multi filament nylon cord for my radios and the guy said that there was not such a thing. But, I did find polyamide multi filament... I kind of a joke. Melhoras para a esposa.

I have a 6001 and audio, LW, ME, SW1,FM all work, Sw 2-8 is dead? Where can I trace the power to this tuner? Perhaps the bios fas failed, but just in this tuner only? I have a new tractor belt so I can replace the tractor belt ( I cannot think why this would cause a power failure)?

All you can do is follow the power lines through the schematic and see where it fails. It’s a slow process, but will tell you where the fault lies.

I'm confused. 🤔 Are you taking your videos with an iPhone? I thought I had seen a camera tripod some time ago. Hey, every single one of your new radios is a beauty in it's own. If my memory serves me right, the Nordmende was one the first portables to be used in a car, hence all of the "user interface" was on top.

I record ALL my videos with an iphone. Until recently I used my iphone 6S, until I replaced it with the Iphone 11 (the bugger that broke). The tripods are all for holding the phone as needed.

13:00 Yes! To me it looks like that Nordmende has Shortwave two Times: The 49m Band alone (covering maybe from 5.95 MHz - 6.2 MHz) and Shortwave "S" covering the 41m Band, 31m Band, 25m Band, 19m Band and 16m Band. At least, that is how it looks like to me.. Hopefully this Corona Virus Infection will be gone soon and it will be a very mild One, hopefully !!!!
@DE-iv8if
@DE-iv8if 2 жыл бұрын
So that would mean, Shortwave "S" _could_ go _roughly_ from about 7 MHz to maybe _about_ 20 MHz... _more or less_ But I do not now it exactly...

I usually use a transparency that the labels are laser-printed on, and then I spray glue on it and stick it into the panel. This time they were out of transparencies, so this is actually a temporary version printed on glossy paper.

I would, but I really like the transparency version as the cutouts for the switches comes out a lot neater, so I’ll be replacing these when that option comes back.
