Sorin, beginner videos are frustrating, because beginners always get this kind of jobs, to be honest, seeing you struggling with this kind of repairs is a lot better, we learn a lot more from this

Sorry to complain Sorin, but if you edit your videos much more, it will soon just be hello and goodbye! Every time you come back after an edit the work is done and you just describe it! I've watched every video you have ever made over the years, excellent tutorials, really solid teaching. Enjoying the fact that they were long videos because you showed every step along the way, good and bad! I think you may well lose viewers if this carries on, I'd hate for that to happen It's hard for many of us to follow what you do nowadays, The whole style has changed - sadly for the worse! "Please" go back to your unedited style I really appreciate all the work you've put into your channel over the years, Thank you so much for the knowledge, you've helped so many people understand! Stay well.

@@dogosrobi It's sad really, Sorin was the one person you could always rely on to show the job exactly as it is, mistakes and all. I will still always watch Sorin working, he does excellent work and he's a really nice, honest person . Plus I love his sense of humour, he also cares about his watchers and wants people to learn. I'm always rewatching Sorin's older tutorials - I just enjoy his way of teaching! Sorin's the man! Seeing all the small details, even on repairs I've seen him do many times before, it makes no difference. Sorin is just brilliant at what he does, long may it carry on. But more like the old style. Please!

To be fair, I don't think the track between the gate and the BQ chip just "broke" like that - there's probably a resistor in series between the two that went open-circuit or out of spec when the original FET blew (although this may not be the cause, because for the resistor to blow there would have to be quite a bit of current sunk sunk by the gate driver pin of the IC, which would've also killed IT, which was not the case - you put it back and worked). Still, this might also explain the jumping resistance you mentioned.....just a thought....

5:44 if you lower the voltage on PSU (and you have the issue with main power rail) you should set maximum voltage, which is allowed for CPU/GPU (so lets say 0,8-1,1V) Because if the high transistor on CPU/GPU powerrail side is shorted, then your voltage from main powerrail (from your PSU) will be injected to CPU/GPU (and 0,8-1.1V will be safe) But you've set 3.0V, so in rare cases it can damage cpu/gpu (3.0v is 3 times too much) (I know that you set current limit, but anyway - you should learn people to take safe steps first)
@laboratorioassembler

Never use more than 1.1v when injecting.
@mart43
@mart43 Жыл бұрын
@@laboratorioassembler it depends on 1.1V (5x1.1V= 5,5W) is not a lot of power very hard to spot a hotspot without a thermocamera . Just make sure the high side MOSFETs aren't shorted then just inject 19V 5A (100W).

The chips may not be fake, but they are definitely not new. My theory is that they use some chemical that cleans the chip from the solder but causes corrosion on the surface. That's why I always apply new solder to the chip first to make sure that the chip is connected correctly.
@predatortheme
@predatortheme Жыл бұрын
I think they are new, they are extremely cheap to make and you can get them in bulks of 5000s or 10000s no way would someone go throught the hazzle and pick them off existing laptops.

For me, the first step is continuity check on main power plug on the notebook side. I'w seen way too much shorted reverse polarity protection diode/fet, first main power fets. Its easy to check withouth takeing out any screw. If it's shorted, i have a clue about one possible problem. Also i skip to plug in PSU if main is shorted. This is my personal preference, maybe iam wrong. But I always try to be at least intrusive as i can.

14:48 - 19:12 | That was hard to watch, why you not clean and prep pads for chip first? I have never used that technic of soldering the QFP chip before, I always use a soft wire brush to clean the pads prior to soldering. I am glad you figured the problem and fix it.

:) Are those chips bought on eBay really fake? From what I see, original power management chip was placed back, because initial problem was with the faulty track, not with the PM chip. Did Sorin test new chips, after the initial problem was fixed? Did not see that in the video. The reason why solder was not attaching to the pins of the chip comes from long storage times. Ideally chips should be stored sealed in the bags.
