it is already awesome to bring to life a non working board, consider the work under pressure thinking that if it takes too much time to get the job done that will be zero profit for the shop, and since the shop is probably not Apple Inc. even half an hour matters. The manufacturer does not want you to repair it. That is why they have priority chips installed. They don't have to publish the pinouts. They would rather have you return it to them for repair or purchase a new unit, Because of this you are forced to develop ways to work around the problem (be dodgy??). As you develop these repair methods you increase your value to the customer (and employer). You should never have to apologize for your knowledge or work ethic.

Replaced both and the laptop ran for the rest of the day but I did not realize it was not charging. The battery icon on the task bar showed it was charging but it really wasn't. The laptop was just running off the pre-charged battery. When it finally died I had no clue why it wasn't charging with a new port and new battery. The symptoms I am experiencing is very similar to this case. No power, not charging, not coming on.

Hi Sorin and a happy new year. First of all. I wanted to thank you for all your work here and thing you teaching us. You teached me a lot in understanding, thinking and doing. Nice that you want go now the professional way and want try to do no dodgy way :-) I understand that it can be sometimes difficult for a repair shop that have to fight with time and costs. As an enhanced beginner I wanted to give you a tip for next repair videos. Please noticed this not as an advice. Begin all repairs with volt checking from charger to charging ports on boards to batterie . Then do always when if possible and even if not necessary a bios reset. That should also be even if not necessary always the first steps in procedure. Sometimes like you showed it, it happened a lot in eg frozen io Bios chips. Ram checks or remove a hard drive can also be rare thing of not working or booting. This Steps are quick and didn't cost you a lot of time on start. Someone told me a time ago when if I remember correctly in this same case on Ideapad. That it has to do with the power management. The batterie discharged to low and is blocked to charge again or fully charged. What exactly it solved I didn't know anymore. If it was charging the batterie manual full to reset the charging power management on the mainboard that blocks it or the charging management of the pcb of the batterie.
