Very nice project and idea! Taking the three channels for the segments is also smart. As so many LEDs consume very high current, you can think about a 12v version with some LEDs in series. Maybe you run in a little problem with paralleling a hole segment without single pre resistors because not every LED has the same forward voltage and the brightness will vary.

$2 is only PCB price, but "shipping" is at lease 3 times expensive. It would be better if they found cheaper shipping solution. But I think it is impossible because they actually hide a part of price inside "shipping".

If you've already got some electronics parts but are having trouble knowing how to hook them up to do something interesting, I'd suggest a beginner project book. Amazon has a lot of them, and if you click on the 'look inside' you can get an idea of whether the style of writing is for you or not. I personally recommend the Simon Monk books for someone just starting out, but YMMV.

are you selling those pcb 7-segment displays?? I could really use one of these for a personal project!
@jacksonteneng72874 жыл бұрын
Hi Electronoobs! Thanks for your well explained videos and very useful contents. I personally find this addressable 7 segment display awesome! After going through I decided to build one for myself using your schematics, however I forgot to use a P-Mosfet, and had JLCPCB assemble 5 boards according to the schematic below (but with N-Mosfets), and it worked but with the LEDs not completely turning off as you previously explained. So I purchased some P-Mosfets(SI2301) and changed one board to P-Mosfets and surprisingly the LEDs instead lighted brighter instead of turning off completely. Please could you help suggest a solution? Thanks in advance :-)

I have a question maybe stupid but at 5m40s how the second led "know" that it had to turn on?
@mjoseph38755 жыл бұрын
bcz we sent 2 pack of data, the first one is received by the first driver of the first led, then since the data input of the second driver is actually connected to the data output of the first driver it then receive the second pack of data. and so on if we have 3 led and each led have it own driver we need to send 3 data pack for example (255 255 255) for the first (255 255 255) for the next and so on

It's unfortunate that you didn't allow for a colon (":") separator on the PCB for use in a timer display - you had the unused output of the WS2811... With that, it would have been perfect.
@duncanx995 жыл бұрын
Any possibility of another PCB version that incorporates it? Very easy to adapt the sketch. Are you going to Maker Faire Barcelona next weekend? I'm intending to go one day (not sure which yet) maybe we could meet for coffee/cerveza - there are no other maker where I am so I miss out on opportunities to have my brain stimulated.
@NETBotic5 жыл бұрын
Perfect would be using a constant current driver ; ) Oh and it needs USB and WiFi and Eco mode.
@duncanx995 жыл бұрын
@@NETBotic Try reading the datasheet for the WS2811 - the chip provides 3 channels with 18.5mA constant current sinks.... USB and WiFi is easily achieved by driving the displays from an ESP8266, or an ESP32 if you want Bluetooth as well. By "Eco mode", I assume you mean deep sleep. That's a coding issue but could also be done - though at 18.5mA per segment you might not save much.
@NETBotic5 жыл бұрын
