Electrophilic Aromatic Substitution, starting with the basics of EAS reactions, mechanisms and reactivity, followed by substituent effects including ortho meta para directors and activating / deactivating groups.
We’ll begin with an overview of the EAS reaction and its use in synthesis, what drives the mechanism including stability and sigma complex intermediate resonance.
We’ll look at the common reactions including aromatic halogenation, nitration, sulfonation, friedel-crafts alkylation and friedel-crafts acylation.
We’ll look at ortho meta and para groups and how substituents act as activating or deactivating groups as well as its relationship to directing effects.
And of course, lots of practice to ensure you can follow along
