Pt 3: Using a form, bookmarks, and VBA in MS Word to fill a document.

In this video, I replace some of the textboxes with combo boxes and demonstrate how to populate them. After that, I write the code to populate the bookmarks with the form data. Then I write code that uses an input box to request a file name from the user so that it can be automatically saved in the "Documents" folder. Another form, tells the user where it has been stored and that it has been done.

I'm confused about something - If you created the base document as a template would you need all that extra code for naming the file? The template ("something.dotm") would present the form as "Document1.docm" and force you to give it a name, wouldn't it? Am I missing something? Also, there is a lot of great info here, but I think a bit of editing would tighten it up a lot. I'm not sure seeing your mistakes in real time is helping anyone.

This series is very helpful, thank you! I don't understand the Save Document code at all (like, why the ampersand underscore in the middle of the input statement?) but I can copy/paste! *Is there a way to direct where the file will be saved?* I'd prefer to save to my desktop. Thanks again Michael!

Great video but instead of saving in the document folder, how do i change the code to just product the document and not overwrite the template?

Great form! However, I am doing something similar based on an Excel workbook having a (database) sheet of (many) records, for which I have created quite an extensive UserForm. What I would love to do is, once I have selected a record from the UserForm with all data at display, to populate an MS Word file with only a few selected data/fields, which I have already bookmarked in a template Word file (so as to generate a new filled-in Word file and leave the template intact, just as you do). The difference here is I am NOT working from within a UserForm linked to a Word file like you do, but, like I said, on a UserForm that picks data from an Excel sheet to be "copied" onto a Word file (located in a different path). Any clues on how to solve this?

Thank you; a great set of tutorials. The only question I had was if you re-open a document where the bookmarks are already populated, how do you read those back in to the UserForm when it opens to allow them to be edited, and then to replace the original bookmark text? I'm struggling with the syntax to do this.

Thank you for this tutorial. I was able to apply the save as function to my template. The box that opens to enter the file name to be saved has ok and cancel command buttons. ok allows the for to save; however, no formula was entered for the cancel button. Making this selection causes a debug error. What VBA can be included for this cancel selection?

It would just be the name of form dot and Hide FormName.Hide

Thank you so much for your video. It was really easy to follow and I have managed to create a user form. I just had a question. Now that I have created a user form I wanted to edit and add some more features but I can’t seem to get in to do this. Is it possible to edit or add anything after it’s been created? Yes, but you have to make a template and edit the template.

Hello again. I’m sorry to bother you again I just wondered if you might be able to advise me on editing the code so when it saves to dox it goes to a file in document say the file is called “complete” I tried to add dox/complete but it didn’t work. I would be really grateful for any help.

Great stuff and real vs. so edited we don't learn to actually think it through. I am on thin ice though and would like help on coding to: have the user choose which Buildingblocks to include (from among about 10), from a Custom Gallery, and Categories. Within these I have already placed the bookmarks to the personalize info in the building block. For context, I the initial page of this form being populated on a form on open. (Of course, thanks to your Pt1-3 videos!). These building blocks go in section 2 of the letter. I am stumped on is this another form in this section w? or part of the main form I have already created? Might be a bit in over my head! Thank you.

I have a template for a work document (an Agenda/minutes) and i am trying to follow your instructions but i am having difficulty with some areas as what i need is slightly complex or maybe not possible but i do not have the knowledge or experience unfortunately. Thank you for your video. It is great. I followed it and was able to create a custom form. The issue I have is with the Save dialog box. I get an error message when I click cancel. The error is Run-time error '5152': This is not a valid file name. Can you help with that?

By the way, I forgot to mention that I tried a few lines of codes with no success. I read about the If and End If statement but could not succeed with the Cancel button. Can anyone help?
