Elektron Machinedrum SPS1 UW + MK2 | Workflow

Nothing has surpassed this instrument in terms of design, function and process for the musician. Its inception was in 2001 - how have electronic instruments not built forward on top of this brilliant piece of gear? There is so much depth to the parameter locking with sound design. Totally insane.

I’m still a n00b with the md, but all the same, I could not agree more. I think the main reason things like this are not remade/re imagined is because the is a level of “you need to dive in and explore for yourself” rather than the cold calculated “this is what the box does and this how you do it, and it’s very easy.” Because that’s what sells these days for the most part

Agree 💯 It's like the polyevolver in a way. Everybody is like "this is the best in terms of stereo and modulation. It's a modular actually...." And there's almost no other synth like that (be it alone the stereo stuff). But as said... probably it's because simple to understand stuff is sold waaaay more quickly.

I agree, although the sequencer/p-locking on the Octatrack far exceeds what the Machinedrum is capable of. By todays standards the MD's sequencer is fairly rudamentary. They are incredible instruments, but they are difficult to unravel and some of the techniques (even those stated in the manual) can be very obtuse and esoteric (the entire concept of RAM machines for example). The MIDI sequencing on the Octatrack is also essentially night and day compared to the MD - the MIDI machines on the MD are extremely basic. But I agree, in terms of how much sonic potential is packed into a Machinedrum, I think they are still more or less unmatched. I still prefer the Octatrack obviously, I think that's Elektron's perfect box. You can do some truly magical things with it. An Octatrack paired with a Machinedrum is essentially heaven...I sold my Octatrack a while back though, I need to get another one!

@@atarirob I also largely agree. Having both, ot and MD (not the UW though) with the megacommand...both are great for making sounds and making them weird and both are really unique. Especially when you tend to resample stuff a lot. I feel like if you do that the true dirty soul comes to light. Also seen in user friendly sounds AR video :) So yes, get the OT again... Why did I start this comment?...

Have a MD too (btw. the new unofficial firmware and the megacommand are really worth it....turns it into a modern day octatrack-crossfade-mode-madness-kind-of-thing with MD sound craziness) so anyway... keep those really entertaining yet tutorialesque videos coming. you're really good at those. edit: hope you find more time for stuff.
